My field rating for this inaugural event is a solid, if not spectacular 60%.
My breakdown is 68% from the LPGA Priority List and 52% from the Rolex World Rankings.
Top ten players teeing it up this week:
Amy Yang #5
Jin Young Ko #6
Hannah Green #7
Celine Boutier #9
Rose Zhang #10
Top ten players skipping the event this week:
Nelly Korda #1
Lilia Vu #2
Lydia Ko #3
Ruoning Yin #4
Ayaka Furue #8
Other Stuff:
Lydia Ko's victory at the AIG Women's Open was her second win on the LPGA Tour this year. She joins Nelly Korda (6 wins), Hannah Green (2), and Lauren Coughlin (2), as multiple winners this year.
Long Time LPGA player I.K. Kim announced her retirement.
Mao Saigo increases her lead for Rookie of the Year honors this week with 636 points. Jin Hee Im moves into the runner-up position with 552. Gabriela Ruffles slips to third with 484 points. So Mi Lee (312) and Nataliya Guseva (279) round out the top five.
Nelly Korda has won the Rolex Annika Award as the most outstanding player in the five major championships this year. Nelly also takes over the number one spot this week for the Vare Trophy and the Hall of Fame point that comes with it. I think we can all assume that Nelly has wrapped up the Player of the Year award and that Hall of Fame point.
As is usually the case after a Major Championship, there was significant movement in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players:
Nelly Korda remains number one by a huge margin. She has now been in the top spot for 23 consecutive weeks and 60 total weeks in her career. The 60 weeks moves her into sixth place on the all-time list. Next on the list is Inbee Park with 104 weeks. Nelly would have to stay on top until June of next year to take over that spot.
Lydia Ko makes the most important move this week, exploding up from 12 to 3. How big is Nelly's lead? Lydia is closer to the player ranked number 486 in the world than she is to Nelly's top spot.
Ruoning Yin jumps into the top five this week, moving from 6 to 4. Jin Young Ko and Hannah Green are knocked out of the top five.
Mao Saigo Springs up from 46 to 37.
Jin Hee Im advances from 45 to 40.
Ariya Jutanugarn rises from 59 to 48.
Nanna Koerstz Madsen hurdles her way up from 103 to 85.
Alexa Pano moves the most spots of any LPGA member this week skyrocketing from 109 to 87.
Linnea Strom leaps up from 107 to 98.
