Last but not least a disappointed Nelly. Disappointed or not, I'm sure Nelly is happy that Lydia got her third major; Hole #18 celebrations just isn't Nelly's cup of tea. As a Card-carrying Nelly fan, I'm quite happy for Nelly this past week. We can see she's still fighting the demons, but she's at least 80% above the water. Believe it or not, the upcoming Solheim Cup will be important for her. Anything short of 5-0-0 or 4-0-0 will be a big disappointment. I can see she bookends the rest of 2024 with another streaky run!

Morgan Pressel just credited Jiyai Shin with doing a Beyonce dance after winning in Singapore. Fact check: Ha Na Jang did that, not Jiyai Shin. Morgan Pressel being bad at her job is not a matter of opinion. Because just filling up airtime is a massive struggle for her. But not everyone can hear it evidently. I find that outrageous but what can you do. How can a broadcaster hope to provide interesting commentary when they massively struggle just to complete a sentence. She is flying blind; most sentences she just starts them without a clear idea of how they are going to finish. Simply put the most incompetent broadcaster I have ever heard in almost fifty years of watching TV sports. A total farce. I will watch the rest of today but I cannot keep this up much longer. Right, I noticed that too, and helpfully told the screen, 'that was Ha Na Jang you putz'. I mean, doing a Beyonce dance is not Shin's style, as we all know. How many times did she comment about how close Jiyai Shin stands to the ball when she putts? If you were playing a drinking game where you knocked one back every time she said that, you'd have needed resuscitation long before the end of the day.

I'll admit, I was expecting to be disappointed today, because that's basically what's been happening for two years now, but if we could have had Jiyai win this, man, THAT would have been a great career capper. Instead, it's yet another thing Lydia gets. She had her career capper a few weeks ago, she did not need yet another major accolade. Sigh.
Jin Hee Im had a birdie chance to move ahead of Saigo and gain some rookie points, so not only did she miss it, she missed the par as well and LOST ground. Congrats to Saigo, she is definitely winning ROY.
All in all at least it was somewhat fun to watch, but I'm still not a convert to this crazy kind of golf.

Of all the number 1s and former number 1s, only Lydia didn't stumble towards the end. Congratulations to Lydia!
I'm glad Jiyai did sink that birdie putt on 18 to get back to T2.
That three-putt on 18 by Lilia cost her some money.
Re Pressel: She's still only 36. I can't imagine she would still be the prime commentator of US women's golf when she's Judy Rankin's age long after we are all dead and gone.

Christina Kim should replace Pressel. A much more pleasant sounding voice and she is funny - also has more LPGA wins 😂

It'll never happen, but -- Grace Park. She would be awesome. She does a good job on the KLPGA broadcasts and speaks fluent English. And they could really use an Asian on their announcing team considering what a large % of the league is Asian (look at this week's top nine finishers), if only to present a non-Solheim-Cup-countries-centric viewpoint every once in a while. Even the LET have an Asian woman covering their league, and the Asian representation is far smaller over there.

Looking at the ROY points for the first time this year ... it is far from decided ... Chairwoman Mao has four more events, due to her high Rolex ranking at the start of the year, but still has only 84 points more than Ginny ... and maybe Ruffels can get lucky somewhere and make it a three-horse race.

I thought Gabi would easily win ROY so hats off to Saigo and Im.
But the most impressive rookie to me is Goose. She is 3rd on tour in driving distance and piling good results up of late with 3 top 10s in her last 5 events. Awesome Kim is the only American rookie of note.
What happened to Natasha Oon? She has good priority via Epson top 10 but I don't think she played at all this year.

I thought Gabi would easily win ROY so hats off to Saigo and Im. Really? At the start of the year, Ruffels was a Epson tour talent ranked around 150th in the world. Saigo was the top gal on the JLPGA tour, wasn't she? Certainly a lot higher than Ruffels. And Im was second on the KLPGA money list with So Mi 7th and Yu Jin 10th. Im and Sung both had multiple KLPGA wins in 2023. Frankly, no matter the adjustment challenges, I thought all three Koreans would be well above Ruffels by this point. I keep waiting for one of those three to really rise but it hasn't happened yet. Time is running out.

Ruffels notoriously forgot to register for Q school, so she was stuck on Epson for another year where she crushed the competition. She had done well in the majors prior to that, finishing T15 or better thrice in 2020. She is doing good so far this season sitting at 19 in CME, though I can't remember any tournament offhand. Bad news is she might kick Grace Kim off the next Crown team, she will have to battle with Kyriacou for that final spot.

Don't mind me, I just wanted to say one more thing about this then I'll stop. Im won four times on the KLPGA last year, more than even Player of the Year Yewon Lee. She has been perpetually in the top 50 in the world rankings for a while. So Mi finished second at Q-Series and is a five-time KLPGA winner. Yu Jin nearly won on the LPGA in 2023, losing in a playoff. Given those pedigrees, I thought we'd see at least one of them winning this year, especially given how many rookies won last year. I'd say it's the best Korean rookie class on paper since probably 2015, although none of them is as individually imposing as Hye Jin Choi, Jin Young Ko, In Gee Chun or Sung Hyun Park were when they came in. Hopefully they still have some positive results coming in the final few months of the year!
