The American track team had some amazing results this year. Perhaps the highlight was in the 1500m men's, an event the Americans are usually an afterthought in. There were three Americans who made the finals, the first time that had happened in decades, and they all ran well. But all the attention was on two guys: the defending Olympic champ, a Norwegian named Jakob Ingebrigsten, and a Brit named Josh Kerr, the defending world champ. Those two were the prohibitive favorites and apparently hate each other, so all the attention was on them and who would get ultimate bragging rights.
Anyways, things didn't work as planned. If you haven't seen the race yet, check it out, it's one of the most amazing I've ever seen:
Spoiler (in case you somehow haven't heard already):
American Cole Hocker is known for having one of the best finishing kicks in the sport, but his problem is that he was never close to the leaders in big races. Until now. Coming around the turn, he tried to make a move on the Norwegian, who cut him off and killed his momentum. Amazingly, he gathered himself, tried again, and charged past everyone to grab the gold, setting an Olympic record in the process. Even better, American Yared Nuguse also charged and grabbed bronze, barely losing to Kerr. Ingebrigsten didn't even medal!
I was jumping up and down like a lunatic during the final minute of this. Incredible!

The Koreans had one truly surprising result: a bronze in the women's Modern Pentathlon. Seung Min Seong is her name, and it was the first ever medal for Korea in this sport. Perhaps not so surprising, since two of the events here are shooting and fencing, and Koreans have shown that they love those. Seong is quite a good swimmer, too, based on the video.

Interesting: Eurosport and Discovery created a poster for the Olympics just ended. Other than Korean shooter Ye Ji Kim, not a single east Asian made it onto here. Chinese, Japanese and Koreans had a great Olympics. At the very least put a Korean archer or Chinese diver! (fun fact: Chinese swimmer Zhang Yu Fei won more medals this Olympics than Ledecky!).
P.S. but at least Snoop Dog made it!

I had the exact same reaction to the men's 1500. Very exciting race that got me out of my seat as well.
Up to now I had been ignoring the modern pentathlon. But those highlights were amazing!

Korean sharpshooter Ye Ji Kim has continued to thrive since returning from Paris.
For instance, here are a couple of fashion videos featuring her that just appeared:
And she was also in Elle Korea:
It was recently announced that she would make her acting debut:
And in a variety show. Too many to collect them all, but here is an example:
Pretty incredible!
