This is some more information about the record Sihyeon Lim (her preferred spelling) set in the preliminary rounds. Her record also beat the best score the MEN put up in their qualifying rounds. Lim is 21 years old.
"First world record of Paris 2024! Republic of Korea's Lim Sihyeon, with a score of 694 (out of a possible 720) , sets a new world record in the women's individual recurve archery ranking round, breaking both An San's Olympic record 680 from Tokyo 2020 (in 2021) and Kang Chaeyoung's world record of 692 set at the 2019 World Championships.
The Republic of Korea also betters its own Olympic Record in the team category with a score of 2046."

Non sister related but the end of Japan/Brazil football game was wild!
ROK did not make it but they have perhaps the best young player in the world in Casey Phair who was born in Korea but raised in NJ. She is only 17 now yet appeared in the last world cup and is going to play for club Angel City in LA.

AV of Team Swiss dropped out of Dana and CPKC so she could show up early in Paris for the whole shooting match ... being #35 on CME made it an easy choice ... teammate Morgane Metraux (CME #92) didn't have that luxury and played both LPGA events (won't have time to play in Portland).

What happened in the Japan/Brazil game? Here are the highlights, Japan scored 2 in the stoppage to win - the 2nd goal was a stunner youtu.be/otLA73hPU20?si=7hrEFmkOzwF_0tI8Defending champions Canada were docked 6 points because their coaching staff was using a drone to film opponents training or something silly. Quite nonsensical at the end of the day, they look to finish 3-0 in their group and advance to the QF regardless Much like golf, the women of Asia are better at football than the male counterparts. Even the communist sisters are one of the better teams in the world, though covid knocked them off the radar a bit.

Today it was the Korean men's turn to try to win the team event in archery. They don't have quite the record the women have, but still were the heavy favorites and had won three straight times. They were pitted against the French in the finals, which should have been a challenge given the home court advantage. And indeed, the French were very good, tying the Koreans in the first set. Then the Seoul Brothers stopped fooling around and threw down the gauntlet. In the second set they made five straight 10s and a 29 total. They won that one, then were on their way to winning the match when the fricking TV coverage ended (!!!). I had to look it up online which of course spoiled the result. But they ended with multiple 10s to take the third set and the match. Here are the highlights: The three archers were Woojin Kim, Jedeok Kim, and Wooseok Lee.

Korean women are great at archery, shooting and fencing. Basically, put a weapon in a Korean woman's hands and get out of the way. And we haven't even mentioned martial arts yet; they can kill you bare handed, too. Below is Hyo Jin Ban, who won gold in the 10m air rifle event. She was the 100th Korean to win a gold medal in history. She is also the youngest, at just 16 years, 10 months and 18 days. OK, speaking of martial arts: Heo Mi Mi (left) won the silver medal in the 57 kg weight class of the judo competition. But Choi Se Bin, after beating the world's #1 in Sabre, lost a big lead in the bronze medal match and finished 4th. Just missed a medal!

My favorite swimmer is Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey. Half Chinese and half Irish (her great uncle is a former Prime Minister of Ireland), Haughey won two silvers at the Tokyo Olympics. She has been swimming great the past couple of years, so I was eagerly waiting to see what she would do here.
They just completed the 200m Women's Freestyle. Haughey was in the finals facing two Aussie swimmers who had between them shared the world record. She got out to a great start, but was tracked down on the final leg and finished third. Still, a bronze makes her the most decorated Olympian in Hong Kong history. Congrats to her, and good luck to her in her upcoming events!

Ye Ji Kim won the silver at the 10m air pistol shooting event today. Holy crap, look at her. She looks like she would blow you off the planet if you looked at her funny. It's like, could she be more of an action movie star in waiting? Get on it, Korean film industry! Here's a clip from her winning an event a few months ago: The gold medal was won by her country woman Ye Jin Oh. I said it before: if a Korean gal gets a weapon in her hands, run! Her best event, the 25m pistol, is later in the week. What's funny is that the gold medalist has a totally different vibe. I guess there are many ways to win at shooting.

The men's golf has started and the round has been delayed by the threat of thunderstorms. Something to watch out for when the women tee up. Such a threat should affect all events that take place outdoors.

I watched some this morning, Tom Kim was getting a lot of coverage and Michael Phelps was supporting him too. I know he is an avid golf fan, along with ex Welsh footballer Gareth Bale and of course Steph Curry - maybe he will watch Ronni in action.

I watched a lot of it, too, considering I almost never watch men's golf. Scheffler sure has an odd swing. He was playing together with Rory and the crowds were going nuts.
Anyways, Min Woo Lee tees off on the first hole and hits his second shot into the drink, making double. He ended up shooting a 75 and finishing well down the leaderboard. Guess it will be up to Minjee to carry the family pride.
