The site above is a good starting point for the basic facts. It runs Aug. 7 thru 10 for the women (and Aug. 1 thru 4 for the men) at Le Golf National, about 12 miles SW of central Paris (ranked #10 in France at the online top-100 golf course website). I don't know when Team ROK arrives ... The Yangster, The New Ko and HoJo are not teeing it up again on the LPGA until the AIGWO.
Winbee arrived in Paris on July 22 ... per Google mush, she is here early to begin politicking for something called the IOC Athletes' Commissioner election.

Serious question for the Olympics I assume we are cheering on our home nation girls? While I hope the sisters do well I'd prefer a Hall or Hull win - us Brits love doing well in the medals table thanks to cycling, rowing and sailing!

English article on Winbee. I read a lead up article about this a little while back but there didn't seem much in it, I mean how much brain damage would it take to pick someone over Inbee. www.mk.co.kr/en/sports/11074192I'll be refraining from cheering anyone on this time around. The Olympics are off my watch list. Shame on all the people who run the entities that deliver and profit from the games, not the athletes.

I've been following Inbee's story, too, but I wasn't clear on exactly what it was she was trying to qualify for, how far she had actually gotten, and what she had yet to do. There is an election to the IOC to represent athletes which will happen during the Games, and she will be campaigning during the Olympics, but who votes? Still not clear on that. All the athletes? Aren't they a bit too distracted this week to worry about this?
Anyways, good luck to her, she would do a great job I'm sure!

In case anyone cares, it officially starts tomorrow and wraps up on August 11.

The security aspect is just ill ... about 75,000 police and soldiers provided by France, plus security forces from numerous other countries ... per Wikipedia, they also deployed British surface-to-air missiles. An article mentioned numerous Russians being blocked from entering France ... they claimed to be "journalists", while they were probably spies instead.

In a fit of carbon neutral or net-zero insanity, the Olympic village does not have traditional air conditioning ... believe it or not, the same philosophy was applied to the Olympic village cafeteria ... where Team Great Britain was served raw meat:

The Golf Channel posted videos of the front and back nine of Le Golf Nationale. Front NineBack NineIt's off-putting to see so few trees where the surrounding area is wooded. Plenty of water to contend with.

This year, the athletes take a boat trip down the Seine. When they showed Korea, it coincided with NBC interviewing some American basketball player, so the Koreans were ignored and squeezed into a small video tile off to the side. Thanks, folks! Not sure the Sisters are even in France right now. I didn't see any mention of them in the articles I saw on the Korean web. Oh, and the announcer on site called them North Korea in both French and English. AWK-ward... Fortunately, the subtitles on the screen were correct, but as you can imagine, the South Korean delegation were NOT amused. The IOC apologized.

By the way, I merged the two Olympics threads to reduce confusion. Feel free to add all Olympic reactions here, including of course golf.

They did it again! On the official Olympic feed, they misspelled the English name of Fencing champ Oh Sangkuk as Oh Sangku. Well, at least someone Korean won the gold, whatever his name is.

Kim Woo Min won the bronze in the men's 400m freestyle. It is the first medal in swimming for Korea in 12 years, since Park Tae Hwan won two silvers in London.

Vivian Kong became the third person in history to win a gold medal for Hong Kong. She won the women's epee (fencing) in a final match against a French star, in front of a hostile crowd that included President Emmanuel Macron. She got out to a terrible start, but made an epic comeback 'out of embarrassment' that she would lose big like that. Then she won! Great job by her. It really wasn't that much of a surprise. A graduate of Stanford, Kong is the world #1 and has won every other important award in the sport except a gold. Still, she got the job done when it counted!

Women's Olympic archery joined the Olympics in 1988. And at every Olympics since then, there has been one constant: the Korean women's team has won the gold. Nine straight golds, no seconds, no thirds. It's the most amazing dominance in the history of the Games. Today, the ladies made it into the final four, aiming for a tenth straight gold. Interestingly, the team consisted of three players who had never been in the Games before. The Korean squad is so deep that none of the experienced top ranked archers were able to qualify last month. It wasn't easy, but they outlasted the Netherlands in the semifinals. It came down to a playoff, but the Dutch players, who have never been in a medal round match before, blinked first and the Koreans won. They faced the Chinese in the gold medal match. They won the first two sets in impressive fashion, but just when it looked like the Koreans had it wrapped up, the Chinese came roaring back, winning the next two sets. It went to another playoff, but two of the Korean arrows were close enough to the line that they had to check them with magnifying glasses. Turns out they both were underscored, and when the two points were added, the Koreans got the win! Ten for ten! Unbelievable. The Archers hold up a '10' with their fingers and medals: The archers: Nam Soo Hyun, Jeon Hoon Young and their ace, Shi Hyun Lim, who set the world record for highest ever individual total score in the preliminaries. I've been getting into badminton and NBC has hired the same woman I have been hearing commenting on BWF highlight reels.
