I'm a little surprised, too, especially since the Sisters like going to events in the LA area, where Korean restaurants/stores/etc. are plentiful.

Jin Young Ko is not playing until the Chevron Championship. Also, So Yeon Ryu is playing (yea) because she is a past winner. Jiyai Shin and Min Ji Park (yea) is in the field because of their top forty Rolex Ranking

All the Koreans would show up if this was the Annika LA Open. Apparently, Se Ri is merely a game show contestant to the younger generation.

Jin Young swing has been off lately so she may be taking time to fix it, before the Major. If Amy Yang is trying to get in the Olympics, surprised why she skipped it. Sei Young Kim is starting to play better so it's a mystery why she is skipping. Or maybe they saw how hard it is to merge onto the 405 freeway at night... kidding

At least Six will be there, Five also. Rose is taking some time off from her studies this week? She doesn't have to travel out of state...

Only 44 players signed up for tomorrow's qualifier. Two ex-Trojans are here, Annie Park and Muni ... did they ever play this course frequently in the past? If so, I'm guessing their local knowledge won't be enough ... I'm picking Stephenson and Waitwait Zhang.

Realistically, I only have nine holes left in me, unless Shin can make an improbable run.

My field rating for this event is a solid, but disappointing 69.5%. This is way down from 77% last year when it was called the Dio Implant L.A. Open and had the strongest non-major field rating of the year. My breakdown is 75.5% from the LPGA Priority List and 63.5% from the Rolex Rankings.
The field will be led by top ten players. Lydia Vu Nelly Korda Ruoning Yin Charley Hull Hyo-Joo Kim Xi Yu Lin Top ten players not teeing it up this week include: Celine Boutier Minjee Lee Jin Young Ko Lydia Ko Other (healthy) players skipping the event this week include: Amy Yang Sei Young Kim
The Monday local qualifiers are: 1- Sophia Schubert (USA) who shot -5. 2- Alena Sharp (Canada) -4, who won a playoff for the last spot over Muni He.
Other news: With Bailey Tardy's victory last week, the USA became the first country to win twice this year. Bailey Tardy became the first, first-time winner this year. Ayaka Furue's top ten finish last week was her fourth this year. No other player has more than three.
There was some interesting moves in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players since the end of the last tournament, all coming from the bottom part of the rankings: Sarah Schmelzel jumps from 95 to 73. Bailey Tardy leaps into the top 100, moving from 169-83. Ruixin Liu surges up from 293 to 235. Savannah Grewall (via her fourth place finish), catapults up to No. 471. She was not ranked in the top 1600 of the Rolex Rankings before that solid finish.

From her Instagram account I see Six has made it there. Her new wardrobe from Malbon is likely to be a good one. Fellow Malbon model Charley’s been wearing some nice outfits this year. We’re moving on from Oliver! and I’ll quote Banarama. Could we be seeing a Grewall Summer. For those thinking what he’s on about search YouTube for Banarama Cruel Summer. They were the UK’s Spice Girls of the 1980’s. I don’t think they ever made it big in the US

I remember Cruel Summer, although their cover of Venus was the bigger hit here.

Actually, the groups name was Bananarama. And as HappyFan stated, Venus (a remake of the Shocking Blue song) was their biggest hit in the USA as it went all the way to number one on the Billboard charts. Cruel summer was their only other USA top ten hitting number nine.

I am psychic today ... was thinking earlier this AM how I'd like to follow MHL with Gruel Grewal in the same group when they hit my neighborhood, but they are doing it this week! The third in their group is Yoktuan . BTW, the full name posted on the .pdf pairing sheet is Savannah Katarina Grewal.
Other groups -
JTibs/Baily Two/Ariya 51
Six/Boonchant/Gillman .... Gillman?!
Kyriacou/The Rocket/Mary Liu
Bianca/Meadow/Duncan
Dr. Noh/J. Song/Sharpy ... starting Thu. at #10 in the last PM group ... like pushing brooms after a parade of elephants.

Looking at the tee times, and the tv broadcast window, don't you have the feeling that we'll be seeing a lot of Lexi, Ronnie, and Rose on Thursday? Maybe some of Linn Grant, Charley, and Lilia. And anyone else in the afternoon groups that's still on the course and having a good round. Hye-Jin? Jiyai? Jenny? Six? We can hope...
