The fans really turned out for this one last year, even though the field was weak...and it is again this year. Only 22 players in today's qualifier.

The two players with the best credentials advanced today, Klara Spilkova (68, -4) and Jimin Kang (69, -3).

I think the field is better this year: SHPark, Ingee Chun, both Jutanugarns, Lydia, Brooke, Michelle, Danielle Kang, Hataoka, Minjee Lee and a cast of thousands. Tough spot on the calendar right after the KPMG and 4th of July week, but a good purse helps.

Monday practice:
Haeji Kang and Erynne Lee
"Caro" Hedwall
Wed. pro-am:
Bea Recari and Mirim Lee (I think)
Obviously, this golf course was NOT designed 90+ years ago. These two are about to get a lifetime's worth of cardio.

Great start for Sei Young Kim, minus nine opening round. She had six straight birdies on the back nine.
In Gee at minus five had a good start also.
Jin Young Ko had five birdies and one bogey on the front side. But she could only manage nine straight pars on the back nine.

Emma Talley sounds like Elly Mae Clampett. A cute "Caddie Knows Best."

Round 1 Too easy too easy too easy! If you need a 65 to get a top 10, I mean, that is not a real challenge for these ladies! I actually think In Gee had a fairly good start, but her 67 left her out of the top 20. Well, be that as it may, great start for Sei Young, and In Gee and Jin Young are in OK shape going into tomorrow. Who knows what the cut will end up being; could be 4 or even 5 under. On the other hand, I'm not at all surprised that Sung Hyun struggled. It's just like Ji Hyun Oh after the Korea Open win; it can be exhausting to play after a huge victory. Well, we'll see if she recovers tomorrow. Sisters hwaiting!

I don't mind the occasional birdie fest. The interviews w/ the players were fun. Sounded like they won a huge prize at the fair.
And it's a different kind of pressure, to keep the pedal down.

I never have any issues with the courses. After all they play the same course and the player with the lowest score wins, fair and square. Tough courses favor a certain players, and easier courses favor different groups of players. People should complain about courses being too tough, if they complain about the courses being too easy.

Sei Young is a formidable front runner. She was -15 after 2 rounds at 2016 Bank of Hope Founders Cup; she finished -27 and won by 5 strokes over Lydia Ko, the dominant No. 1 at the time.
Other than Sei Young, there're 20 players at -9 to -12. It's a dog fight out there.

It's literally a walk in the park for Sei Young, but not for Brooke Henderson.
Brooke struggled to a 2nd round +3 and made the cut on the button at -4. She only hit 8 greens and had 28 putts.

A -7 round with a double at 17th, and she missed a couple of short putts
