I thought the rule was, if you are a sponsor invitee on foreign soil and are not a member of the LPGA, the money does not count? (IE, does not count towards you making enough money to earn tour membership). How can a member of the tour have money not count? Will they list two money totals next to her name so we can tell where she stands in terms of official money vs. all money?
Also, she is a fricking Major winner! How does she not get into the field automatically? That is hella lame!

I thought that getting in by winning tournaments, you get in all tournaments.
Besides what does foreign soil have to do with it. She is an LPGA player that will win money in an LPGA tournament.

Also, she is a fricking Major winner! How does she not get into the field automatically? That is hella lame! HJK is cat 3. Most limited field events are approx 72 players and cat 1 is the top 80 LPGA earners of the previous year. mlyhlss.blogspot.ca/2014/01/a-hitchhikers-guide-to-2014-lpga.htmlJust be happy.....you get to see the 230th ranked player who has also been invited too.....the lovely Miss Cheyenne Woods. I'm sure we'll get plenty of Cheyenne coverage when she's at +4....while HJK is at -12 and contending for the win. Gotta love Merica.....I believe IMG is managing the TV production.

Foreign soil has nothing to do with it....the critical factor is the limited field status....it just a coincidence that the limited field events are in the Pac Rim & Mexico.

Don't even get me started on the scheduling of TV tee times. Argh! I realize that Hyo Joo, as merely a Major Winner, has a lower priority on tour than the 80th ranked player from last year, but, as I may have mentioned before, that is HELLA LAME!!! (Of course, her money total from the four events she played last year would have placed her well above 80th on the money list, except that two of those events were foreign and wouldn't have counted anyway? Ouch, my head hurts).

Ho Jo was not a member of the LPGA last year, so I understand why her money didn't count. However she is a member this year. Limited field or not I don't understand why her winnings do not count.

Hyo Joo doesn't have any winnings this year; she hasn't played yet in 2015! OK, here's a suggestion of a much more sensible way to determine priority: Currently: Category 1: 1-80 on previous year's money list Categories 2 - 6: Who knows and who cares; almost no one in these categories category 7: Winners of 2014 event not on tour (Hyo Joo and Q Baek here) Category 8 another useless one Category 9 - Symetra Tour top ten Category 10 - non-members who earn enough money in events to have been top 40 if they had been on tour. Again, almost no one ever Category 11: 81-100 on 2014 LPGA money list Category 12: Top finishers at Q-School So with that system, even great rookies are placed below people who finished 100th on the 2014 money list if they came through Q-School. Better solution: Category 1: 1 - 40 on money list Category 2: Any winner of events in past two years, Major winners prioritized, who were not in category 1 Category 3: Any LPGA member in top 40 in world rankings as of arbitrary date not otherwise covered in 1 and 2 Category 4: 41 - 80 on money list Category 5: Symetra Tour grads (I'd put them lower, but I guess the Symetra Tour has to have some reason to exist) Category 6: Top finishers at Q School Category 7: 81-100 on money list, and shut your mouth because you're lucky to have any status finishing down here! By my awesome system, Baek and HJ Kim would be category 2, Ha Na Jang category 3, and Minjee Lee would be ranked well above the bottom feeders in category 7. No #21 in the world trying to Monday qualify necessary! Plus we get rid of category 10, which is filled with so many exceptions and weird rules that it is essentially useless. Earn your card by winning or Symetra or Q-School, not because you get a lot of sponsor exemptions! PS - I'm open to any reasonable modifications for people with medical reasons, mommy leave, or tons of recent wins not in the last two years, but I think this works as a much better framework for priorities!

I know Ho Jo did not play this year. I was talking about any money that she wins in the Honda Thialand. Not counting on the official money list. Because she is an invite.

IMO...yes.....top 20 Q school players should have priority over 81-100. It's not cheap to attend Q school...never mind the ones who have to go through all 3 qualifying schools.
Registration fees, flights, hotels and caddie fees, etc.

Foreign soil has nothing to do with it....the critical factor is the limited field status....it just a coincidence that the limited field events are in the Pac Rim & Mexico. I got this directly from Heather Donofrio of the LPGA. I'll say it one more time. The rule states: " If you are a sponsor Invitee in a tournament on foreign soil with no cut, all earnings are unofficial." Charley Hull was a sponsor Invitee last week in Australia and the earnings do count because there was a cut. Hyo-Joo's earnings will not count this week. 3putt - I understand your point, all tournaments in the U.S. have a cut, I am just stating the rule as it is written. I still thought I had read that that applied only to non-LPGA members given a sponsors exemption. But OK, I'll play along: so even if Hyo Joo wins this week, her money total will show $0 on Monday morning?

On a unrelated note. Yoon Kyung Heo got an invite to the Volvik Championship on the Symetra Tour. I don't remember is she sponsored by Volvik.
Jimin Kang is also in the field. She got a top four last week at the Gateway tournament.

Looking ahead, the HSBC Singapore is a "Limited Field, No Cut and on Foreign Soil". Hyo Joo Kim is entered as a member (not sponsor invite) due to the Tournament Criteria taking precedent over the LPGA entry criteria, which the LPGA should take note:

BTW, In Gee Chun is entered, too (not as a LPGA member or Sponsor Invite, but via Rolex Ranking Top 20 at entry date):

NOTE: I believe there are 2 sponsor invites not yet disclosed.
