GC is currently showing a Round 4 replay...my first chance to watch Gerina's meltdown at the end...SBS Golf didn't have it. WTF...at 808pm....GC up here is showing endless Golf Academy featuring Popsicle Guy....blah. I want to see the GC feed that we did not receive and want to see some post rd interviews. I have a suspicion that TSN2 paid for the Sky Sports feed. The BBC was the Olympics rights holder in Britain yet I read an article somewhere that they didn't send a dedicated team to cover either golf tournament and relied on the generic Olympic feed that our Canadian friends and most other nations got. A high profile golf event on the BBC WITHOUT Peter Aliss? Unthinkable, yet that's what happened.Kevin

I think I heard that Ozzie guy that covers the Asia Swing on my golf feed....or maybe he was covering another sport?

Huge congrats to Inbee! I never got to see any of it but followed the scoring on the last day and Inbee went out and kicked butt, very well deserved!. Left, I have to give it to you. Back then many of us has deserted the Queen Bee for the flavor of the months, eg Ariya, Brooke, or even Sung Hyun Park, when Inbee was shooting in the 80s. You are the one who maintained that there is only ONE player who has the consistency and mental fortitude to challenge the Wonder Kid for #1, and that player was nursing a thumb injury at the time. Well play sir. Well, I wouldn't say he was the only one...

I am not so sure, HF is still waiting for world domination from In Gee. lol That one may have to wait awhile, it's one thing to dominate Korea, World Domination is a different level. Never quite understood why most around here thought she would given there's never been a Korean player come straight from the KLPGA and dominate the LPGA. Se Ri was very strong when she came to the LPGA but she wasn't dominant, would have been but for the Swede and the Aussie she had to fight against so she was a bit unlucky in that regard. Jiyai and Sei Young are the only other two I can think of that had multiple wins in their first couple of years, neither I would say were dominant players at the time though. There's probably more but just those three come to mind.. Jiyai Shin won three events before joining the LPGA, including the British Open. Within a year of joining she was the #1 player in the world. Lorena tried to make it seem like she announced her retirement before Shin caught her as #1 (she claimed as much, and the media reported it as fact), but in fact Shin had just caught and passed her that very week. Shin wasn't the number one forever, but she stayed a decent amount of time at the top. As for In Gee dominating, you are having selective amnesia. I've always maintained that, while it was possible given her great 2015 that she could come right out and be a big star on the LPGA, that it was more likely it would take a bit of time to acclimate before she became a world beater. It's going slower than I had hoped in my best case scenario, but I'm by no means disappointed. I think she's doing a fine job. There are others around here who are/were far more disappointed/surprised that In Gee hasn't grabbed #1 than I am.

I noticed that too....it should be on the NBC Olympic highlight package this evening. Ok, I watched it again a few times and saw no movement whatsoever from Stacy that she was trying to hug Inbee or shake her hands. She and Lexi was standing on the 18th green exit presumably to wait for Gerina. When Inbee walked by, looks like both Lexi and Stacy said something to Inbee and she promptly nodded. I watched it again last night and came to the same conclusion.

There are others around here who are/were far more disappointed/surprised that In Gee hasn't grabbed #1 than I am. From what I can see Jiyai won 10 events worldwide in 2008 including 3 on the LPGA which is much more impressive than In Gee's 2015 and still Jiyai wasn't dominant in 2009, there were at least 4 multiple winners that year. That's kinda why I wasn't expecting too much from In Gee this year, that's not to say she hasn't done great and in all honesty she was on a roll prior to the injury and could well have done better had the injury not happened. Seems to me there are many really, really good golfers that come out of the KLPGA but there's very few (if any) that can step up and dominate. Jiyai made it #1 but she was never dominant. Then again there's been very few dominant players in modern times on the LPGA, maybe 3? Annika, Lorena and Yani. A few other that have had short periods I guess like Inbee in 2013 and Webbie in 2000. I certainly wouldn't call Lydia a dominant player, she's a dominant #1 right now but that's more the fact that Inbee has been out most of the year and no-one else could close the gap.

Yeah, your standard for greatness is a bit ridiculously high. Jiyai was #1 in the world. Sei Young Kim has won five events. Hyo Joo Kim has three wins so far. These are all pretty good success stories. I feel like In Gee could be in that group, but to expect she would come out and be Annika part deux right away -- I certainly wasn't saying that. Heck, even So Yeon Ryu's rookie year was pretty amazing - 16 top tens, the most in the league, and 12 top fives. Only one win, though. Still pretty amazing.

Billie Jean King likes to use the "pressure is a privilege" quote. I feel that way about In-Gee Chun. With all the incredible potential that some (including me) think she has, there is an extremely high level of expectation. That she has not come close to meeting that expectation will bring a lot of criticism. It's part of deal when you're possibly the next big thing.
While pressure is a privilege, patience is a virtue. As a hardcore Ariya Jutanugarn fan, I remember how much people where talking about her before her rookie year. Both Karrie Webb and Stacy Lewis named her as a favorite for Rookie of the Year. We all know how things turned out. Sure, there was the injury. But even when she came back last year, it looked like she was done after 10 straight missed cuts. Look at her now (injury withdrawal in Rio notwithstanding).
Give In-Gee some time. Be patient. Maybe she turns out to be the dominant champion some of us think she can be. Maybe she doesn't. But nothing that I've seen so far this year, on or off the course, makes me think she can't reach the highest levels and be world #1.
...and yes, Jiyai caught Lorena...in fact, I might be recalling this incorrectly, but didn't she catch Lorena literally with the last putt on 18 in the last event of the year?

In Gee had a chance to win over American crowd this year; given that she won USWO last year, a fresh face and overall a very charming and likable personality. The job is so much tougher now that she hasn't won and that she didn't fare well in USWO and the Olympics. She has time to become No. 1 and be dominant; but she has less time to be a fresh face and to climb the popularity ladder outside of Korea.

I also noticed when the camera was showing the Korean team clapping and cheering for Inbee, Sei Young Kim was the only one with her hands down, with an expressionless face. But when she realized she was on camera, she quickly started clapping . I guess either she was very disappointed in her own MIA performance, or she was contemplating her own fate of being sent to North Korea in exchange for prisoners of war.

It was in the spring, actually, that Lorena chose abruptly to retire in front of her fellow Mexicans. That Sunday before she started her final competitive round Jiyai Shin won a JLPGA tournament and positioned herself to take over as world #1 when the new rankings came out the following day. Lorena requested to be removed from the rankings the following week but it was too late: she officially left as the world #2.Kevin
