BTW I have met Brandie Burton and her bull dyke traveling fan club. Several times. Not my cup 'o tea but a cool lot. -ol'68 For those members unfamiliar with ol_68...this is an example of his genius and brilliance in reporting the action...lol. Back in the 90's at the Safeco in Seattle....one Saturday....the gallery must have been 40% girl scouts.

Do you get to choose the groups you carry the signs for? If yes, I strongly recommend Grace Na (no later than Friday) for optical values. For unknowns who can squash their drivers, I would recommend Jaclyn Jansen and Benyapa Niphatsophon. Phil Grace Na in my books = meh....I checked her out based on your observations. The standard bearers of this event is usually manned with a lot of kids from the local Boys & Girls club. They like that ol_68 vols for dew sweeping because he is reliable when some kids NS for the that early tee times....he's often asked to do 36 cause they don't have enough vols or the kids soon realize being a standard bearer is not an easy task and fatigue. He also isn't much of a fanboy as he stated...he doesn't care if he gets an autographed ball from the pros in his group or he'll just gives them away...I think he gave me a ball....I can't remember who. The Boys and Girls club also man the parking lot and collect a $5 donation...I don't know if they still sponsor the lot...but Toyota/Lexus has been doing it for a few years....so you get free parking if you drive one of their cars. This is a good event because there are members who you can chat with....the 9's are switched from the regular course set-up. The weather is also hot and nearly perfect in Portland in the summer too....and lots of planes to watch flying over head and fighter jets too. This would be a really good USWO track....they could bake the crap out of it....play it at 6800 yards and pinch in the fairways and grow the rough and play it at 71 par...it would be a beast. Many holes converge....so it's great spectating....but Mike Davis and clowns would rope it so severe it would likely be a joke to watch. The course has great practice facilities....everything is well put together. But Sahalee still makes Columbia Edgewater look like a pitch and putt. Remember how they baked the crap out of Eugene G&CC a month ago for the men's/women's NCAA's.

Here's a reason to show up in Portland...an excerpt from the LGU's regs regarding the 2016 Ricoh Women's British Open:
7. EXEMPTIONS FROM PRE-QUALIFYING AND FINAL QUALIFYING
n) The leading five (5) LPGA members upon completion of 36 holes in the 2016 Cambia Portland Classic who have entered the Championship and who are not otherwise exempt in categories a-m and q.

You're joking? Based on what I can see, this is pretty much the sum total of In Gee's participation in the commercial:
(she also waves for a split second earlier. The above is my first attempt to create a gif, and it turned out as rather freaky I think).
By the way, I've held my tongue rather nicely about these two ads, huh? Oh well, off the wagon...
In Gee and Ha Na Jang appear for a split second in the one above, The second one has Minjee and Alison and of course Ko, but as far as I can see not a single lady from the ROK. If I were on twitter, I'd tweet that LPGA must stand for 'Let's Pretend the Gals are American'.
(to give them credit, the previous ad campaigns were more inclusive: last year's rookie one had Sei Young Kim and Inbee, and the Girls are Good ones even gave So Yeon Ryu a speaking part!).

This is the other new LPGA ad, by the way. Apparently the Koreans are the only group who never work long hours in the gym or on the driving range...

So are you saying fourwaymiss has excellent perception? "2, HF whining about the sisters being slighted by the media,........." Happy: It must be very frustrating for you waking up each morning knowing you have to face another day of Merican prejudices. You should escape the Yank racism and immigrate to Canada...but will you be proceeding before or after The Donald becomes the next POTUS?

Friday June 30, 2016, Well, people know that you can’t dampen my enthusiasm for this LPGA tourney, but the feel of this one is really second rate this year. They have really cut back on expenses like, no rides from your car to the front gate in the golf carts (Geez, no carts at all except the big cheeses!!) volunteers are waaaaaay down, you’re lucky to get 2 marshals on a whole hole. No Boys and Girls Club volunteers at all, must have been dropped. They didn’t even bother to mow the field that you park in, step out of your car to knee high grass and weeds. Not a good first impression this morning. Then I get to the volunteer tent and find one of my dear friends whom has been a big part of our staff died this last winter. Phil was a super witty, super friendly, super personality whom I miss already. He kept things lively and moving around the tent. Turned out he had cancer and didn’t know it and passes away almost to the day my dad did. You’d of missed him very much, too if you knew him. RIP Phil, you are missed. 3putt kinda had it right in the volunteer description, but the standard bearers are run by Oregon Junior Golf (who I volunteer with) and they had a tourney going at the same time a bit down south by Salem, Oregon, so most of the administration who run the meat and potatoes of the standard bearers getting us ready to go out were at that place and left a couple rookie apprentices in charge. Hey, they did great, and left more Krispy Kreams for the rest of us. Things could only go up from here, and they did. I didn’t arrive much before my 7:15am tee time, maybe 6:45am but plenty of time to don new gear. New signs, pouches, names, numbers. All spanking brand new and had a very modern feel, more streamlines, not the big ‘ol sign sails that you were carrying around in the foul weather. Was a joy to behold and I did. I had the two-some off one tee, Caroline Westrup and Ziayi Zhou. Both very friendly and lively all round and easy to talk to all round too. Usually you try and avoid talking to the players much, disrupting them from their routine, but both would engage in small talk with both the walking scorer and I all round. Very unusual and a good change from the usual silent round and small talk with the walking scorer only that I’m confined to. Both hit draws off the tee with Miss Westrup’s becoming more pronounced the father into the round we got. We were actually going along pretty good with Miss Zhou tied for the lead at -3 after 12 holes, then Miss Westrup’s hook showed up and she dropped 4 strokes pronto in a couple holes after hitting into the water on 13. But Miss Zhou held it together and shot 69 for T6 when I left the course early. Yep, I left early. A couple of other volunteers showed up and the big cheese gave them my #2 round, which I found out would have included Miss Gulbis (No wonder it was given away).Hummmmm, I also thought she had retired….. I ended up grabbing lunch and a couple Cokes and watching the action on 15, where, I didn’t see one birdie made in 12 groups. But did manage to nod off for a bit, catch some familiar faces, to me anyway, like slow Miss Kemp, and work on my tan. Maybe someone did make bird during my nap, but I didn’t see any. Weather was downright chilly and cloudy starting off but right as the parr putts dropped on 8 for us, the sun came out and the goose bumps went away. Ended up a good low 80’s day. No clouds forecast for Friday so I’m looking for a good sunny day. Off to bed………………….. -ol’68

ol_68 LOL....only lazy/fat Merican would need a ride from the parking lot to the course.
They don't need marshalls....from what I saw on TV....only 30 fans are in attendance....seems like they were all watching the Canadian Princess
I assume the food trucks are parked by the range and minimal concessions?
Sorry to hear of Phil....RIP.
Is Cougar there?
Whan needs to find an event in Seattle...when Cambia pulls the plug.

Friday July 1, 2016, Nothing like going to a LPGA tourney expecting to do one round, and then finding out at the end of that round that one of the little punks has cancelled out and you’re now doing two rounds. Oh well, so is the life of a LPGA volunteer. But first a few observations. Seems there are three rules to being LPGA tourney pro. 1. You have to consult your caddie on EVERYTHING. 2. You have to carry a little book stuffed with every conceivable golf course set up fact sheet till it’s at least twice as fat as the average American wallet and consult it before every shot you ever take. 3. You can never, ever, ever, ever, EVER be ready to hit when it’s your turn, and you have to do rule one and two before you can do rule three. I can truthfully say my first group of the day religiously followed rule three to a tee. And even though chain smoking Jennifer Rosales had dropped out and made it a two-some, we never once threatened to wait for the group in front to hit. Now you may think I’m just a typical American, bald guy whiner, but I’ve learned to enjoy myself in any situation at a golf tourney because, hey, it’s a golf tourney. I only say this because it just reinforces everything to me as to why I don’t golf anymore. Nothing’s changed and tourney golf takes it to the max. Don’t know if the LPGA is trying to turn people off to golf, but they’ve done a great job to me. I just roll my eyes, look at the sparse gallery and trudge along in my 5 1/2 hour round wondering if the tourney will be here next year. OK. Soap box put away……. First round of the day, Sarah Kemp and Giulia Molinaro, Aussie and Italian (with an Italian caddie to boot- Ivan was a great guy, too) Slow Sara missed the cut but we found out she has one hell of a whistle when the marshals on #7 were gabbing away at each other in the middle of the landing area and she got their attention by a long toot. Holy smoke what a whistle. We all rolled on the floor when the marshals jumped out of their sox 200 yards away. After the molasses round, I retired to the 15th green with my doughy, ham, wrap sandwich and simple bag of Lays chips. ( I mention this because this tourney being sponsored by Cambia Health Systems, features nothing but “healthy snacks” everywhere- everything is Gluten free, high fiber, whole wheat, non-GMO, cardboard)Ahhh, the joy of good ‘ol greasy chips that you have to find a sink after you eat to wash your oily hands. Hey, I saw a couple birdies this time and lots of close shots followed by lots of misread putts. Had a good talk with Dave Cougar up from LA to take in the tourney before heading to San Jose for the Open and to work the scoreboard. Knowledgeable and cool guy #1. Ahh, but I get called back to go out a second time with the last group off #10, Swede Caroline Hedwall, Ashlie Bunch and newcomer Casey Grice. Miss Grice had game and can REALLY drive the ball well, smooth hit down on the ball shot that rockets off the face. Blew the group away with a fine 67, all done on the back nine after an even par front. Put herself in position for a good payday. Was impressed. Miss Hedwall looks like my hero Austin Ernst +75 pounds. Wore bbbblack on black everything (even the undies which peeked out every time she bent down to read a putt)Missed the cut by 1 shot. Ashlie was game too, but faded at the last to miss the cut by 2. Ouch. Hey we were issued pedometers right before we went out and my two rounds registered 21,000+ steps, 9.93 miles covered and 688 calories burned. You may think that’s a lot but it’s about one good U16 soccer game center and I usually do 3-4 a weekend so I’m probably going to gain weight for the weekend eating those great, greasy, chips. HeHe Tomorrow I’m only going once in the morning, then leaving so I don’t get called around again. I’ve got season tickets to the Portland Thorns Soccer game against Sky Blue tomorrow night and I’d much rather go see them…….sorry LPGA. But here’s a pic of skinny Jennifer Song missing her bird on 15 today. Catch you all tomorrow. -ol’68
