If you're ballooning the ball...it's likely your shaft. I have no idea what my swing speed is...it’s probably not high, which is why my intuition has pointed me toward ‘R’ shafts. But, in the last couple of years I bought a used ‘S’ 2-hybrid and a used ‘S’ 3-wood from a friend, so I’m rethinking about shafts. Particularly good is the 3W, a Titleist 906F4 15.5. It has a bore-thru Aldila VS Proto Fairway 80-S shaft. The club is really heavy (the head is steel, not titanium), but maybe that helps my tempo and keeps everything on plane, because I’ve hit some rockets with it. Aldila’s website says the ‘R’ and ‘S’ versions of this shaft for woods weigh a whopping 83 grams, only 2.2 torque, low-mid launch angle, and 46”. GolfSmith sells that shaft for $110, but I can get if off EBay for $30. I may be able to Frankenstein a really good driver on the cheap.

Some stiffs play softer...especially with a low kick.....my stiffs play softer....although I could play a DG stiff....or PX 6.0....in the end...they are just to stout, heavy with high kick points.....although I'd like a stouter shaft in my GW....it's ballooning. Heck...some regulars play stiffer. The Proto is likely too stout for you to get the maximum out of that shaft.....and I think you're giving up distance with the 906F4. I've got the TM Stage 2 3W HL in stiff...I think you'd love it....it's really a 4W....but with more loft it's more forgiving and easier to hit off the deck....it's likely $50 or less for you....same with a Jetspeed FW. I also have read rave reviews on the X2 Hot Cally FW's too Mentally you'll feel more confident spending $120 or less for 2 clubs......that's only maybe 3 or 4 green fees. I also firmly believe you can pick up a set of of good and forgiving irons for $150 or less. If my old clubs were stiff...I'd likely still be playing them. I think most clubs 2008 or newer have max'd out forgiveness...you've just gotta short list some clubs and then search the internet or eBay for deals....there's tons. Also....I've seen some really cheap stuff in the swap shops on forums like www.4gea.com or www.golfwrx.com. In the deals or equipment sectiosn of 4gea...some members post when deals are happening on the internet. But don't expect your cap to necessarily go down....you'll just enjoy playing with more forgiving clubs and getting more distance when you nut a shot.
