Starts Thursday for a field of 156 at Earl Grey GC in Calgary, AB ... which is not on the online top-100 golf course list for Canada. This event has been in Calgary three other times, all at Priddis Greens (ranked #97). Monday's qualifier (top-4 get in) will be at Mickelson National GC (yes, THAT Mickelson), which is ranked #38. A weekly grounds pass, including Ticketmaster's usurious fees, goes for $163.20 CAD ... or about $119 USD, which compares favorably with the USWO and KPMG.

Weird name for a golf course...

There is a one player discrepancy between the qualifier lists on the LPGA website vs. the Golf Canada website. Per Golf Canada, Annie Park has a 12:17 PM tee time with Oboh and Joo, but the LPGA website omits her (at least she moved up to 1st alternate). So, it's either 25 or 24 players fighting for 4 spots ... those are great odds for players like Doherty, Then, Talley, Joo and You-Sang Hou. One of the ams in the qualifier is Yanjun (Victoria) Liu, aka Lefty Sung Hung of Princeton U.
Fifteen of sixteen sponsor invite spots are filled ... mostly amateurs and Canucks, plus Anna Davis, Melanie Green and Megan Schofill.

Will In Gee be there?

She's in the field now ... who knows about later.

They whittled down today's qualifier field to 23 names. Annie and Doherty were removed and became players #155 & #156 in the field. Porna/Waen is the new first reserve (and not in the qualifier).

In Gee announced several weeks ago that she would be returning at this event. We'll see, but that was what she said.

My field rating for this event is a disappointing 51%, way down from 68% last year. Mt breakdown is 54% from the LPGA Priority List and 48% from the Rolex Rankings. Just three of the top 10 players of the world will be in attendance this week: Lilia Vu (#2) Hannah Green (#6) Rose Zhang (#9) Top ten players skipping the event this week: Nelly Korda (#1) Jin Young Ko (#3) Amy Yang (#4) Ruoning Yin (#5) Celine Boutier (#7) Ayaka Furue (#8) Yuka Saso (#10) The local qualifiers are: Soo Bin Jin (Korea) -3 Yanjun Liu (China) -1 Gabriella Then (USA) Even Angela Zhang (USA) Even
Other Stuff: Chanettee Wannasaen's win this past weekend was the third for a player from Thailand. Only the USA with nine wins has more. Australia and Japan are the only other countries with multiple wins (2 each). Mi Hyang Lee missed the cut this past weekend. It was her first missed cut in sixteen tournaments this year. That leaves Ally Ewing and Lilia Vu as the only players with at least ten starts who have not missed a cut this season. Haeran Ryu's top ten finish was her seventh of the year tying her with Nelly Korda for second place. Only Ayaka Furue (9) has more. Ayaka and Haeran have 16 starts this year, Nelly has just twelve Mao Saigo has taken over the lead in the very tight Louise Suggs rookie of the year award with 433 points. Gabriela Ruffles (idle last week) drops to second with 417 points, followed by Jin Hee Im with 393.
With the weak field last week, there was very little movement in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players: Chanettee Wannasaen makes the only move of more than five spots in the top 100, leaping from 43 to 33. There were some major moves outside the top 100: Sarah Kemp advances from 154 to 144 Celine Borge bounces up from 200 to 189 Mary Liu skyrockets from 476 to 351
There may not have been much movement in the Rolex Rankings, but there were some important moves made in the Race to the CME Globe. It is vital to finish in the top 100 here to keep fulltime playing privileges next year. The following players helped themselves towards that goal this past week: Jasmine Suwannapura 82-67 Ssu-Chia Cheng 122-77 Sarah Kemp 107-90 Mary Liu 141-93 Jiwon John 102-95 Stacy Lewis 129-101 Hyo Joon Jang 124-105 Dottie Ardina 151-111

In Gee hasn’t made it. I think this rules me out of heading up to Scotland next month as I’m not sure a links course is the best place to return. Plenty of sisters in the field. Can Haeran continue her hot streak?

Yeah, Dumbo must have dropped out because first alternate Porna/Waen is in the field.

Who is in charge of assembling the groups? They stuck MHL with The Enemy (Lewis) ... the group's third is Gimee.
I thought Brooke Rivers was going to start college at one of the big schools real soon (maybe Wake?) ... or did she drop out of college after one year? I'm not sure which, but she's in the field as a pro (w/ Beck and Huffer).
Count de Monet Chun (ex-U. of Michigan) is now a pro ... grouped with Anna Davis(a) and Dr. Noh.
Yuri and Harigae are together again for second straight week.
Waen gets Katsu and Fassi ... I assume these two would have gotten Dumbo originally.
Texas Longhorn Canuck Lauren Kim(a) forms a secret society with So Mi Lee and J. Song.

I agree with the random groupings. At least AP gets fresh greens on Thursday - playing w/ Ji Won Jeon + Papp
Gina Kim is in the PM wave with Sandra Gal and the NEW Zhangster.

I bet Gimme knows some secret handshakes that she can practice with MHL while Ms. Pouty Face is trying to putt. ************ The EMP gets Yue Ren and Maude-Aimee LeBlanc. Yue has only made one cut this year but it was a T12 at the ShopRite.

Caddie list is out ... after trunk-slamming last week, MHL will give Aaron Landry another chance. Shocker - Leona is not with Dermot Byrne ... a vacation or did he get canned? Tour vet Vern Tess is on her bag this week. Hadn't noticed before, but Malia Nam has had Jeff Steffler on her bag the last few weeks ... his name was mentioned a lot on Larry the Looper's blog, so he must be OLD. NASA is off this week, so Greg Johnston is trying to pick up some pocket change with Jing Yan. BTW, isn't Calgary a "home" tournament for The EMP? You'd think she'd have Dusty on her bag, but she has someone named Kelly Laybourn instead ... and the same looper had her bag at the Dana Open, too. TMZ is asking what's up?
