She still has her KLPGA Tour card for another two years minimum as a previous champion. She's 39th in money. Well within the top 60. If she wants a change, why japan over the US? Costs? Youmin Hwang's new nickname translates roughly as Assault Leader, because she is very aggressive in her style of play. She is said to be looking forward to this week because the Stableford system rewards those who make a lot of birdies, and she currently leads the KLPGA in that stat. Interestingly, second in that stat is fellow rookie Bang Shin Sil, and Min Byeol Kim also makes a lot of birdies, so we might end up with another great battle between the three of them.
Ji Young Park also makes a lot of birdies, and since this is her sponsor's event, look for her to be particularly interested in posting a win this week.

2023 comparison at today's exchange rates:
JLPGA - 37 events (excluding Toto LPGA), $28.3M USD total purse, $765K USD per event. KLPGA - 30 events, $22.2M USD total purse, $739K USD per event.
I expected the JLPGA to be higher, but it's not that big a difference. Some Korean players are captivated by everything Japanese ... with the JLPGA being the ultimate goal ... Song opened with a 72, T-15.

There are usually a few who want to play in Japan eventually. Seon Woo Bae is a good example of a former KLPGA star who now plays full time over there. Sun Ju Ahn played there for a long time before coming home a few years ago.
It's a little more money, not a lot of travel, not as tough competition, and not as big an adjustment or as far from Korea as going to the States. So if you think it will be challenging to acclimate to the US, Japan is a good alternative.

Man, Min Byeol has got to work on her short putting in the off-season. She just missed a three footer on 13. Back on 8 she had a three putt from four feet. For those keeping count, those two holes cost her four points in this system (the first was a double bogey, the second a bogey). The second miss came after two nice ~ten foot putts, one for par and one for birdie.
