Delayed one year by The Bug ... now being played in Hangzhou China, about 80 miles SW of Shanghai. Haven't come across a definitive list of who is playing here yet. I have read that Ronni is supposed to be here. The JGA is sending amateurs:
The Games run from Sept. 23 thru Oct. 8 ... current medal count:
Rank Nation Gold Silver Bronze Total 1 China (CHN) 29 11 5 45 2 South Korea (KOR) 5 7 6 18 3 Japan (JPN) 3 10 7 20

For Golf:
Ruoning Yin is going to rep for China. As I mentioned in another thread, the Korean committee asked a bunch of pros to play (both LPGA and KLPGA) and none accepted. They didn't give names, and perhaps that's for the best. This is the first time where pros will be allowed to play this event.
I do know that Min Sol Kim is one of the three amateurs on the Korean squad. In recent interviews, she has made it clear she is gunning for gold, and she knows darn well that Yin is playing for the home team, so give her props for confidence!

Here is the Korean squad: You will notice that Sung Jae Im and Si Woo Kim, PGA tour winners, are playing for the men's team. Im is the highest ranked man (27th) in the entire competition. No Korean woman pros showed up. Joining world beater Min Sol Kim on the women's squad are Hyun Jo Yoo and Ji Yoo Lim (both recently played well in guest appearances on the KLPGA). China will have Liu Yu in addition to Yin. In the photo, L to R: Hyun Jin Park (coach), Yoo, Lim, Kim.

This is a great "Coming Out Party" opportunity for these gals, especially Min Sol. Past winners of the gold medal here include Ai Miyazato and So Yeon Ryu, both former world number ones, and Gyeol Park, who has made a nice name for herself on the KLPGA since then. Below: So Yeon won the 2006 Asian Games gold medal in a rout. Silver went to former LPGA player Mika Miyazato, bronze to Korean He Yong Choi, who still plays on the KLPGA tour.

They're issuing four gold medals for golf ... two for the women (individual & team) and two for the men (individual team). It's 72-hole stroke play. Each round's scores from the top-three men from each team will count towards the team score ... China could get only three guys (the better ones not here are more concerned with keeping their PGA Tour cards). The women have the same team format, except they're counting only the top-two players from each team each day.
On the women's side, China will also have Xi Yu Lin to go with Ronni and Yu Liu ... not taking any chances, huh? The Google mush and Bing mush is a bit rough with a Chinese news article ... I think Tiff Chan is playing for Hong Kong with a couple of juniors. Taiwan will have Peiyun Chien (LPGA), Tiffany Huang (U of Oregon) and I think the third is Pei Ying Tsai (JLPGA).
Per the Wikipedia article, Korean broadcast rights are split between SBS, KBS and MBC. Japan has NHK, TBS and Fuji TV covering the games. I'll poke around these channels later ... the golf is planned for 6:30 AM thru 6 PM (local time) ... Hangzhou is 12 hours ahead of NYC.
Looks like Money is already at Hangzhou West Lake International Golf and Country Club:

By the way, Yin is now the #2 player in the world; Lilia Vu overtook her this week.

The Queen Sirikit Cup featured a fairly similar lineup of teams, although there were no pros there. The Koreans won the team portion there and Hyun Jo Yoo won silver (Min Sol was 6th IIRC). One of the Indian women won the individual award by ten strokes, and I'm guessing she'll be here again. Will be interesting to see if that was a one-off or if this is a new budding superstar on the horizon.
[EDIT]: the Indian golfer was Avani Prashanth; not sure if she's in the field but I would be astounded if she weren't.

Aw geez, the Chinese have been 'very reluctant' to allow other teams to have any information about the course they will be playing the golf event on. "China did not allow athletes from other countries to participate in practice rounds, let alone pre-field trips. This allowed the home team's Chinese players to occupy a relatively advantageous position." Cheat much? Also, "The players will be with their assigned caddies until the end of the tournament. However, if there is a request from the player, the caddy can be replaced." In other words, the Chinese will give you a caddie and you will use that caddie unless you complain about it. WTF? Well, anyways, here's hoping the Sisters and Brothers will be quick learners. Asian Games Golf update

Team Korea at practice:
Fanofseri (aka The Old Goofball) was right: Koreans are good with hand weapons in hand weapon sports.

Good luck at finding a working stream that's showing the golf live or any other sports.
At least the main website has the scores (click on Competitions) -
*********
All of the host country's machinations for snagging the two gold medals ran into a snag as Baba-chan fired nine birdies en route to a 65 and a two-stroke lead. The first round is almost finished ... the three ROKs are still out there at -2 or -3. Yubol, Galitsky and Kongkraphan are playing for Thailand and Aditi is competing for India. The Philippines have Malixi and LK Go.

Here are the top scores. The Chinese got the early advantage with their, ahem, home course knowledge, but hopefully that will be less and less important as the week continues.

The swimming competition is going on, and one world class swimmer is cleaning up at the Asian Games: Hong Kong's Siobhan Haughey. Wait -- 'Haughey' is from Hong Kong? Asian Games, right? OK, her actual full name is Siobhan Bernadette Haughey. Maybe that doesn't clear things up, eh? No, she isn't a white ringer brought in to collect golds. Haughey was born and raised in Hong Kong. She has an Irish dad and Chinese mom. She speaks fluent Cantonese. At the last Olympics, she became the first Hong Kong swimmer to ever win a medal when she collected two silvers. Since then, she has set a world record and become even more elite. https://www.instagram.com/p/CazXQglhx53 So far at these Asian Games, Haughey has two golds, setting Asian Games records in the 100 and 200 m freestyle. Her 100 was the second best 100m freestyle swim by any woman anywhere in the world this year. Haughey in the 200 m: She also got a bronze in the 50 m breaststroke and helped lead her team to a bronze in the 4x100 m free. Included in that relay was Stephanie Au, who was previously the most successful HK swimmer and who is retiring after these games. 4x100 relay: Siobhan is super nice and an icon in Hong Kong; and she isn't done at these games yet. Next she will be going against China's Zhang Yufei, who broke the women's 50 m freestyle record for Asia in qualifying for the final; Haughey, who is better at distance, qualified with the second best time and will no doubt give Zhang all she can handle in the final. Siobhan gives a victory interview in Cantonese: Good luck Siobhan!

Si Woo Kim has a lot on his plate this week. If he wins a medal, he will be exempt from his mandatory military service, but if he doesn't, he might soon have to serve. Of course, he also wants to win to bring glory back to Korea. And then there's this recent announcement from his lovely bride, KLPGA star Ji Hyun Oh... https://www.instagram.com/p/CxG-hX4sxSu It's what you think: Ji Hyun will soon be having their first son! Translation of her comments: "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kim Si Woo Jr. Let's🥰meet next year. This year is full of happy things. May it be full❤️💜of good things until the end With.❤️👶🏻👨 👩 👦" Congrats to the happy couple! I can only imagine the golf superstar this kid will turn into in 20 years with the genes he is inheriting!
