Looks like the "wrong" guy is going to dodge the draft ... college student Yu Bin Jang (below) topped Round One with a 61 and college student Woo Young Cho had a 63. Im and Kim each shot 66.

Fantastic final in the women's 50m free, but Siobhan was out-touched by Yufei and got silver. Zhang needed a new Asian Games record to beat Haughey, who lost by hundredths of a second. Still, pretty good considering the 50 is not her specialty by any stretch. link

The Korean men achieved a shocking win at the 50m Fly, with Inchul Baek capturing gold. Woomin Kim won the men's 800m Freestyle Se Hyeon Kwon finished silver in the women's 200m Breaststroke; this is the best finish so far for a Korean woman swimmer in this Games: The women also set a national record in capturing bronze in the 4x200 free relay:

They're down to the last six holes in Round Two ... still no pictures at all on Getty. China's master scheme plan for total domination is still up in the air ... Ronnie is in the house at -11, but Yubol is tied for first at -11 with two holes remaining. Aditi is at -10 with two holes remaining.
It appears that they'll have a cut for the top-20 plus ties ... currently -2.

It looks like the Koreans are going to lose one of their players, which makes it all but impossible that they can get a medal in the team event. A cut is really stupid in this event. Anyways, gold and silver is out of reach for team, and even bronze, with just two players left on their team, is unlikely. I've never heard of Yubol or whatever her name is, but she apparently is on the LPGA? Letting pros play in this was another dumb move, but it sure has paid off for India and Thailand. The three Korean high school kids just haven't been able to keep up. At least Min Sol is currently tied as top amateur for what it's worth... As far as individual medals -- Min Sol Kim still has an outside chance of getting one, but I think I'm going to cut my losses and give up. Best of luck to her for a good finish, but the cards were just too stacked against her this time.

Swimming is coming to a close. The 4x100 women's medley relay had an interesting result. The Chinese were DQed when their backstroker jumped the gun. The Hong Kong people decided to put Siobhan in as the breast stroke leg and made the finals, qualifying fourth. She's going for a sixth medal! By the way, Haughey's 100m breast stroke leg was 1.66 seconds faster than the listed Hong Kong national record of 1.07.69 set by Yvette Kong back in 2016. She doesn't swim 100m Breast competitively, but even with the flying relay start (which generally is considered to give you about .7 seconds over a regular start), it shows that she probably could set the national record if she ever wanted to try. Here is the Chinese mistake: link

Pay attention to my on-site reports! She was gaming Fourteen Golf irons at Baltusrol, which makes her an automatic inductee into the GolfWrx pantheon of coolness.
*******
They're playing the first nine in Round Three and China's golf gimmick is getting frayed at the edges ... Yubol (-13) and Aditi (-14) won't go away. Career choker Lin is at -13 ... Ronni screwed up the first hole and is back at -9 ... one-speed ball basher Liu is -9. China is only one shot ahead of Thailand for team gold. Last but not least, Min Sol and Baba-chan have a realistic shot at a bronze medal if they keep playing like this.

Three pros atop the individual standings and possibly no amateurs will get individual medals. Yeah, I still think that allowing pros into this field was a bad move. Whatever, it is what it is.
Minsol and Hyun Jo are in the same position they've been all week. They are playing just well enough that they have the potential for medals, and just poorly enough that it's unlikely. I feel like they both have low rounds in them, so I'll be rooting for a Min Sol or Hyun Jo 62 and let the chips fall where they may. Hopefully one of Lin or Yubol will struggle tomorrow and open the door. Ashok is a stone lock to get gold.
Hwaiting!

Siobhan Haughey was added to the Hong Kong medley relay team at breast stroke. As you would imagine, she was incredible, and you can see in the clip below that Hong Kong was in the lead by the time she was finished. To be fair, their back stroker, Stephanie Au, was probably their second best swimmer, and she led off. My guess is that if Siobhan was allowed to dive into the pool and do the freestyle leg as well they would have won a medal! LOL But as it was, they finished fourth. But not so fast! As it turned out, the Singapore team did an illegal relay start and were DQed. Hong Kong rose to third and grabbed a bronze. Sixth medal for Haughey. Crazy. And that was after the Chinese team were DQed in the prelims for the same thing. In fact, this was the THIRD straight Games that China's team was DQed in this event. Lesson: work on your relay starts!!! Meanwhile, Japan won and Korea SECOND! Silver for Korea! And they shattered the national record by more than three seconds. Record setting number of medals for Korean swimming this games"South Korea ended the swimming competition with six golds, six silvers and 10 bronzes. South Korea finished with one more gold medal than Japan, which outpaced South Korea 19-1 in the gold medal count at the 2018 Asian Games. South Korea won only six medals five years ago."

Wow, who expected this?
After yesterday, it looked like Ashok had a lock on the gold medal. A seven shot lead with one round to go.
Nope! She shot a 5 over par 77 and dropped to second behind Yubol Archipaya. And Korea got bronze thanks to a great final round 65 by Hyun Jo Yoo!
Korea also got the team silver, with India falling to fourth. Min Sol Kim finished 6th.
Great week for the Sisters. No golds, but a silver and bronze is great, and both beat Yin!

The medalists for individual women's golf: Team with their silver medals Absolutely amazing that they beat the Chinese team with three LPGA professionals including Major winner Yin, and did it with one of their players missing the cut and not even counting on the weekend. Min Sol might have not gotten an individual medal, but she did get a measure of revenge on Galitzky, who beat her at the Asian Pacific Amateur event earlier this year, by finishing ahead of her. Meanwhile, the Korean men slaughtered the opposition to win the gold medal, which means Si Woo Kim and Sung Jae Im are now exempted from mandatory military service. Literally dodging a bullet! In some ways this is less amazing than what the women did in that they had two PGA stars on their roster, but those guys had pressure you can't imagine with their future hanging in the balance. Im also won the silver in the individual event, with Kim finishing fourth. Men's individual final result: Gold HKG KHO Taichi -27 62 60 70 69 261 Silver KOR IM Sungjae -26 66 65 66 65 262 Bronze TPE HUNG Chien-Yao -24 65 63 67 69 264 4 KOR KIM Si Woo -23 66 66 68 65 265 5 KOR JANG Yubin -22 61 67 68 70 266 T6 JPN SUMIUCHI Masato -17 63 71 68 69 271 - KOR CHO Wooyoung -17 63 67 73 68 271 Team Results: Gold KOR Republic of Korea -76 Silver THA Thailand -51 Bronze HKG Hong Kong, China -50 4 JPN Japan -44
