"Lilia Vu, I love you!"
Congratulations to the first American to win two majors in the same year since 1999, the 2023 AIG Women's Open champion by six strokes, Lilia Vu!

I don't know if Hyo Joo Kim could have won but she sure had some tough breaks when she missed the Fairway. A top five tie is still pretty good. Great solo top three finish by the amazing Jiyai Shin. A shout out to Amy Yang for her top five tie her best finish in a long time.
Jenny Shin and Jeongeun Lee6 top twenty isn't all that bad either,

Changing of the guard in US Women's Golf. I can probably ride w/ the new players in Solheim easier but to each their own.

Slim chance there isn't a "Deja Vu" headline in the golf world for this W but I'll post it here just in case. I assumed USC was in California Missouri.

I drove on the 405 through Fountain Valley today, thought of Lilia Vu. It is a very unremarkable place. The main distinguishing feature is a one mile by one mile, perfectly square shaped public park. They call it Mile Square Park. There is a golf course inside, it is pretty lousy. She definitely had to rise above her origins.
Coincidentally Tiger also grew up in the armpit of Orange County, very close to there.

A guy I've known for awhile grew up across the street from Woods. Apparently, it's still owned by the family. Cypress, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa & most of Orange County are dull as dishwater but these flatlands continuously churn out some of the best athletes in the world. You can look it up.

I assumed USC was in California Missouri. This reminded me of the answer to an obscure (not to Phil I'm sure) trivia question. In which state will you find both California University and Indiana University? The answer is neither California nor Indiana, but "of course," Pennsylvania! However, recently the SSHE universities in PA went through some consolidation, so the previous CUP (California University of Pennsylvania) is now one of the three campuses of "PennWest University." IUP (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) still stands, not to be confused with IUPUI (Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis) which is actually in the state of Indiana. To add to the confusion factor, while the PA universities were merging, IUPUI was splitting so that Indiana and Purdue now have separate institutions just west of downtown Indianapolis. (I've been there.) And again, USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington are being welcomed with open arms into the Big Ten (I think it's currently 18 teams?) Just don't betray us and join the SEC! Changing of the guard in US Women's Golf. I can probably ride w/ the new players in Solheim easier but to each their own. And "Lilia Vu, I still love you!" Don, you mentioned the changing of the guard in US Women's Golf. I can definitely ride with the new players in Solheim. I look back to Hanwha where Lilia kicked booty. And she was in a 'slump' at that time after winning the Chevron. She was the only player from any country to defeat a Thai golfer at Hanwha, the Thais won 11 of 12 matches and they deserved it. And I hope that we send Angel Yin to Solheim too. We need to send the best golfers, not the blondest, not the tallest, not the most popular, not the most athletic looking. WE WANT TO WIN SOLHEIM!

They call it Mile Square Park. There is a golf course inside, it is pretty lousy. She definitely had to rise above her origins. Coincidentally Tiger also grew up in the armpit of Orange County, very close to there. I've never been to SoCal other than changing planes at LAX one time, so I will trust the judgment of the locals. Lilia seems like such a genuine person. It was moving to see her brought to tears at the awards ceremony, especially when questioned about how the gallery was so much behind Charley Hull. Instead of evading the question, she said that she thanked them for supporting her too. It's difficult for an introvert to deal with media attention. That is why Lilia and Jen Kupcho are among my favorite American golfers. The sisters face the same problem as it is not normally part of their culture to be outgoing and extroverted in the American sense.
I do not question the brilliance of Tiger. For years I supported his success. He could have been, and maybe should have been, the "GOAT." (Jack won more majors; Tiger was well on track to surpass Jack but it did not happen.) After a while, things began to turn sour. But I feel that he has rehabilitated his reputation significantly by openingly rejecting the LIV "nonsense" after all the money they offered him.

Round 4 Let's see; three Koreans in the top five, so... must be a week where one player ran away from the field? Check. It's really amazing this keeps happening... But let's talk about the Sisters, who finally had a decent week, even more impressive considering neither Jin Young not In Gee did all that well. Hyo Joo was the one who had the best chance. Alas, my recording device only captured the final two hours, and by then, Vu had such a big lead that there was no doubt she had it won. Hyo Joo got up to eight under but was +2 on the back nine. Still managed a t-4th. That means she was top 30 in all five Majors this year. She is tied for most top tens (8) and has the lowest scoring average this year by nearly .4 of a stroke, which stunned me. She is currently the only player under 70 (69.686). Interestingly, Jin Young is second in that stat at 70.040. So they might not be winning, but they are still playing pretty well overall. Jiyai Shin once again had a great week, and once again was contending against Hull for second place (this time she was not able to catch her and finished third). I sure wish she would come back over here full time, we need her! Amy Yang was the third top five, t-4th with Hyo Joo. Nice to see her contending again, but I wonder if she will ever have everything work for all four days so she can finally get that Major...? Credit also to Six for a t-16th. With the interesting events done this year, my biggest hope now is to see Six get a win (or at least contend hard for one). Sisters hwaiting!

Brooke already won the '24 LPGA. Chevron is meaningless. Evian is still fake & In Gee has placed insufferable pressure on herself. 8A needs to win the British Open to salvage the season.

I like Jenny Shin but I'm not going to upload her tee shot as her set-up drives me mad. She addresses the ball at least 3 or 4 times before striking it. It's as annoying as a Nadal ball bounce before he serves!

Boy, seconded on Jenny. Might be the most annoying pre-shot routine I've ever seen.

That was the slowest nine holes that I had ever walked.
