I like this gal. AMY ROGERS: You have a local caddy. How was he able to help you out today? CELINE BORGE: I want to play my own game, really. I just want someone to carry the bag. ************** But Amy wasnt giving up on her pre-baked narrative.... AMY ROGERS: Was he able to provide any additional insight, being familiar with the course? CELINE BORGE: I didn't really ask him. I just like to do my own thing.
How about that, a throwback to a 1960s touring pro: Show Up ... Keep Up ... Shut Up.
Borge didn't impress me with her swing at the UMCC range ... I should have watched her on the practice green instead ... came into this one 30th in Putts per GIR and 9th in Putting Average ... 61st on CME, it looks like she belongs out here.

This looks like Karrie's charity thing where she invites two top Aussie juniors to a big LPGA event ... I think that's Justice Bosio in the black cap, don't know the one in the white cap ... Karrie had Karis and Greeny following her at the 2017 USWO.

Six had me concerned for most of her round, but she finished strong with two birdies in her last three holes. It would be great to see her put together at least one magical round over the weekend and move up the board a bit by Sunday. That's my Lee6!

Great that Jin Young Ko had a minus two round, but she went about it in a strange way. It looks like she was in a protection mode of her score instead of improving it. Hitting three woods on four-hundred-yard par fours and a six iron on a 185-yard par three. The biggest decision that I didn't understand was that she was the only golfer that I saw hit a three-wood tee shot on eighteen. She still ended up in the rough and almost went into the water. Laid up and hit a decent approach shot into eighteen but left her lag putt way short and made bogey.
Still at minus one she still has a chance with two rounds left if she plays like a number one golfer.

Shooting under par today rocketed a player up the leaderboard. Very difficult conditions with the constant rainfall.

This was a far better day for the Sisters than Thursday. Jin Young was on her way to an epic day, 4 under after her first eight holes, but she had a schizo day after that. She missed two really short putts for par, and hit some really weird shots. On 18, where she nearly went left into the water, she clearly was aiming there; there was another earlier hole where her aim was also way off and she ended up in a greenside bunker. Hope she irons that out on the range tonight. Despite some dicey stuff, she has still put herself into great position for the weekend. Fingers crossed that she can really move tomorrow; it's been way too long since she won a Major. Jenny Shin with a decent +1 day, still in the top ten herself. But I was happiest for Six, who hit a superlative tee shot on the 9th for a foot long birdie putt to finish her day. She was +2 today and +2 for the week, but she is still very much in this if she can keep her wits about her. Under par tomorrow, Six!!! In Gee was +1 today also, making the cut at +4. I hope she can notch a top ten in her defense, but I think she's too far back to win. Unless she produces a third round like her first round last year. I'm not going to fall into the Amy Yang trap again, but I need to point out that she is at even par and very much in this. Eun Hee and Hye Jin at 2 over also in good places. But Hae Ran and A Lim were among those who just missed the cut. Surprising cut missers include Thitikul, who had an awful week. Sisters hwaiting!!

Watch the Twilight Zone, year one, "The Big Tall Wish". That's what I want from one of the players in striking position.

This was a far better day for the Sisters than Thursday. Agree HF, an especially good day for Jin Young as you said. For the second week in a row, the majority of the sisters made the cut. Last week at the Meijer, 15 of 18, this week at the KPMG, 12 of 18. Only half the golfers make the cut so any time there's more than half of the sisters, it's good. And Hae Ran and A Lim barely missed though at +6 it's hard to argue they were almost successful...
Had I predicted that every one of the sisters, every single one of the 18, would have finished ahead of Thitikul, Nelly Korda, and Maja Stark or at worst tied with one of them (Chella Choi) after round 2, what would you have thought? First you would have thought that I was nuts. Second, you would have thought the leaderboard must be wall to wall sisters! Well, not exactly...
Korda must not be healthy yet. She said that she would not play until she was healthy but apparently she did not want to skip a major. You gotta feel for Meechai from Thailand. Thursday two strokes off the lead, Friday +9 on the day and misses the cut.
Lexi toughed it out to make the cut; she looked awful on Thursday along with Nelly. When Lexi is successful, it's good for golf. It makes the sisters' accomplishments more meaningful.
Lilia ("Lilia Vu, I love you!") will get no love for her game this weekend, only from me... Looks like the "Maguire era" may be beginning, to replace the "Lilia Vu era" earlier this year, to replace the "Kupcho era" last year... who will be next?

I wasn't there Thursday and MHL shot 78 ... I showed up Friday and she shot 71 ... I am worth seven strokes. Among the players that bombed out, she was tied for having the best Friday score.
***********
Ally Ewing is #33 on Rolex, but you couldn't prove it to me. She was at +4 when I caught up with her group at the par-5 17th ... Lindberg was +6 and needed some magic on the last two holes to make the +5 cut ... Kyriacou looked safe at +4. Ewing set up for her third shot from the fairway to an elevated green ... don't know the yardage, but her club had a lot of loft and bounce, probably the SW ... there was no divot, no nothing in the impact zone, producing a mid-height cruise missile that cleared the green. I could have done that. I hustled up to the 17th green thinking her ball might be on the 5th green ... she found it under a mobile camera tractor between the greens ... the operator was kind enough to move it so she wouldn't have to waste time getting a ruling. She chipped on and two-putted for a six, dropping to +5. Well, she's still safe, but I watched her group tee off at the par-5 18th ... she hit a good drive on the left side of fairway. I wonder if she knew what the cut was at the time ... it would not be illegal to look it up on your phone, since you're getting information, not advice. All the outdoor scoreboards were manual and didn't have cut info. It was not absolutely necessary that she hit this green in two, but I guess she tried it with a 3W and hit a smothered pull-top right into the drink. Why is she playing like me? Now hitting her 4th shot, she MUST hit the green and does so, but missed the putt and is out on the street. I think her husband was following along ... I hope he took away her belt and shoe laces last night.
***********
Sung Hung appeared safe at +5 after she hit a good drive at #18. She went with 3W on her second ... after impact, she immediately turned away in disgust, stomped a few steps and slumped her head down on the point end of her club. She found the trap on the left, but made a good long bunker shot, setting herself up for a routine two-putt.

I missed this ... maybe injured. What species?

The trio of Lin, Yin, and Shin are together again on the leaderboard, this time in a three way tie for second at -4. (Haney alert!)

They made a comment about Maguire suddenly NOT having the great putting stroke she had earlier in the week. Huh? When? She took 35 putts and 31 putts in the first two rounds while hitting virtually every fairway and green ... she should be on her victory lap by now ... instead, JTibs just tied her at -6.
**********
I was mistaken about driving distance not being measured this week ... I think that stat had a delayed posting Thursday on the LPGA website. I saw how they did it on Friday ... a guy with a tablet or clipboard lasered the distance back to the tee, which seems simpler than laying out a lot of hash marks every ten yards. Plus, the Judge Smails of Baltusrol won't get bent out of shape seeing spray paint on his pretty green grass.
**********
Speaking of stats, I looked up the KPMG Performance Insights website for the first time. MHL is ranked 40th in overall strokes gained coming into this week (minimum 30% of all rounds played) ... gee, that's kinda better than I expected. Using looper-supplied data for this is still Mickey Mouse ... the KLPGA (aka the minor leagues) can give you almost instant lasering of shots, but the LPGA can't?
***********
Can't believe JTibs just rinsed her drive at #18.

Round 3 Jin Young has certainly has had an interesting week, let's say. I watched a little this morning on Peacock and witnessed her make two straight bogies to fall to +1. Ah well, I figured that's it for this week. I start watching this afternoon and she's on a tear. She gets to 4 under, just two back. Then... argh, two short misses in three holes. For whatever reason - nerves, this course, whatever - she's been channeling Lexi Thompson on short putts. Had she made those and gotten to 5 under, she would be in the perfect position to squeeze those Irish chicks like a pimple. But even with her struggles, she is still in this, she is still Jin Young Ko, and boy is she due a fantastic final round. Go Jin Young Go! Remind everyone once again why you are number one! Jenny had about the best of round of golf of her career. Other than that weird tee shot into the water on 18 (she got better by saving par anyways). The problem for her is, now she's going to have to do it again. Can she? Best of luck to her, but she's going to have to do something beyond anything she has shown before to come away with the trophy. Never a better time than the present. Another strong round by Six to get into the top 20; her first under par round of the week. I hope she caps this off with a really great effort tomorrow; it is so satisfying to finally see her play some great golf again. In Gee also under par (70), Hye Jin was OK but needed to be great to give herself a chance, but Amy fell too far to contend. Still, not a bad week for them. Sisters hwaiting!!!!
