Bad time for Hee Jeong Lim to hit a terrible wedge shot on eighteen being one down. Oh well her game was off today but there is a lot of other days ahead. I think there was a little frustration in that last putt. At least she could smile about it. Not a lot of interest left in this for me with Min Ji Park and Hee Jeong Lim is out.
Mighty Mite Seung Yeon Lee also went down on the eighteenth hole also. She played great but Seung Hui Noh played great on the back nine.

Round of 16
Jung Min Hong 4 & 2 over Han Sol Ji Hee Won Na 1 up over Da Som Ma Hyun Kyung Park 2 & 1 over Ji Young Park Seo Yeon Yoo 2 3 & 2 over Min Ju Kim
Yu Jin Sung 1 up over Hee Jeong Lim Seung Hui Noh 2 up over Seung Yeon Lee Jin Seon Han 2 & 1 over Ye Sung Jun Sun Ju Ahn 4 & 3 over Min Sung Ha
Quarterfinal matchups are: Sun Ju Ahn vs. Jung Min Hong Yu Jin Sung vs. Seo Yeon Yoo 2 Jin Seon Han vs. Hee Won Na Seung Hui Noh vs. Hyun Kyung Park
Considering my favorites are all gone, I still have a few secondary rooting interests. Would love to see Yu Jin Sung, Hyun Kyung Park and Jin Seon Han continue. And Big Mama! But I have a bad feeling Jung Min Hong is going to repeat (no offense, nothing wrong with her, I just don't find her compelling).

Quarters
Jung Min Hong 3&2 over Sun Ju Ahn Yu Jin Sung 6&5 over Seo Yeon Yoo 2
Neither of these matches was very close. Hong made several lengthy birdies; on one hole, her putt was three times as long as Ahn's and she still made it. What could Sun Ju do? They face each other next.
Hyun Kyung Park 2 & 1 over Seung Hui Noh Hee Won Na 21 holes over Jin Seon Han
Han had a slight advantage most of the back nine, but Na caught her and forced a playoff. There was some brutally bad golf here; they split at least one hole with bogies. Perhaps neither is all that fit and the long day was taking its toll. In the Park/Noh match, Park had the advantage but Noh hung on until Hyun Kyung finally put her away.

Yu Jin Sung and Hong Kong are two-up in their semi-final matches after five or six holes ... good ... give the public what it wants.
I may have to pass the "alluring and mysterious" tag from Song Yi Ahn to Yu Jin, who has not updated her IG since June 2022:

Hong Kong is running Na right off the golf course ... meanwhile, Yu Jin is still 2-up, but Hong still has a lot of life left.
I looked up Yu Jin on Rolex and she is # 104 ... from personal observation last Monday at Echo Lake, I can safely say she is definitely better than Sophia Schubert (#86) and probably better than many other players ranked ahead of her. Speaking of rankings, a win by Yu Jin here and at least one other big finish soon afterward might put her in the Rolex top-75 by July 3 which would get her into the USWO (don't know if she is in the Japan qualifier). I had forgotten that she played the 2020 USWO at Champions and made an ace there, so I'm sure she'll play it again ... she's already been overseas to Hawaii and KSA this year.
Uh oh, Na cut her deficit to 3-down, but I think Hong Kong will hold her off. Yu Jin still two-up in her match.

In other news, next week's E1 Charity Open will have 144 players, including The Elder Ryu trying to restore her street cred. Kyeong Bae and EJ Seong will also be there.

SBS is livestreaming this on YouTube with just ambient sound. Hong made birdie on 10 to cut Yu Jin's lead to just 1-up.
I've been a big Yu Jin fan since her pressroom interviews at the Lotte, where she spoke better English than the so-called interpreter.

Hong Kong is dormie with four holes ... just has to run out the clock.
Hong worries me ... trails by two, but crushed her drive on #14 and is well inside Sung for her birdie putt attempt. This match might go to the end. OHHHHH ... Sung drained a bomb!!!! Hong missed ... now three-down, I feel better now.
Prediction: A final between Park and Sung will draw more eyeballs on TV/streams over whatever final the LPGA has next Sunday.
I wonder if the JLPGA has considered creating a match play event ... have no idea if they ever had one before. After all, they have one open week on their sked.
It's been said that due to population density and abundance of mountains, the ROK doesn't build "out", it builds "up". When going to commercial breaks, the overhead camera shots show a forest of concrete beyond the trees ... even when Ladena CC is 60 km east of Seoul.

I hope Hong and Na have family members and friends out there, otherwise NO ONE will be following their consolation match.
SBS Golf is doing handsprings because a Hong Kong/Yu Jin final will crush JTBC Golf for the next 3+ hours. I hate seeing a loser in this match, but a Yu Jin win would be more beneficial for women's golf ... hopefully prompting her to get off this tour ASAP. Btw, KPMG has two open invitee positions ... yeah, I know, a real longshot.

Yu Jin closed it out like a champ 4&2. YT averaged about 4,200 viewers, although the chat comments were 100% in Korean.
Kudos to whoever owns the licensing rights to Popeye the Sailor, a cartoon that I doubt anyone under 50 has ever heard of...especially in Korea. Nevertheless, a Popeye comic was plastered all over the front of Hong's shirt.

Semis
Hyun Kyung Park 4&3 over Hee Won Na Yu Jin Sung 4 & 2 over Jung Min Hong
Yu Jin Sung vs. Hyun Kyung Park for the title
Yeah, I have to say that this is probably the best case scenario for SBS. In terms of who belongs in the finals, Hong certainly has shown that she belongs, given she's defending champ and all, but it's kinda amazing that Na got as far as she did. No offense, but top four is a great finish given her recent results. Hyun Kyung and Yu Jin 'Eugene' were the best two left IMO, so not at all weird that they advanced.
