Why was it necessary to give So Yeon Ryu a special exemption? Has her rankings fallen so low that she no longer qualifies automatically?

Why was it necessary to give So Yeon Ryu a special exemption? Has her rankings fallen so low that she no longer qualifies automatically? You're right, unfortunately. So Yeon's current Rolex ranking is #113; a player needs to be inside #75 to get an automatic qualification.

And her win only got her a ten-year entrance into the field; that ended in 2021 I think.

It's a well deserved exemption. A win might jump start SYR's career.

Wow, from my neck of the woods -- and the same age as my daughter! Maybe I can use her as inspiration to get my daughter to start learning!

Wow, from my neck of the woods -- and the same age as my daughter! Maybe I can use her as inspiration to get my daughter to start learning! After Jin Young's win at the Founders Cup yesterday, I immediately texted my daughter with the message, "Your birthday mate Jin Young Ko just won the Cognizant Founders Cup on the 1st playoff hole against Minjee Lee." My daughter shares the exact same birthday, month, day, and year, with Jin Young. And they are almost exactly the same height too. It has not helped my daughter's golf game in any way as she has never swung a club.

May 22 - Honolulu, HI: Rebecca Lee-Bentham, Sakura Koiwai and Tiffany Chan.
June 7 - Palatine, IL: Laetitia Beck, Ssu Chia Cheng, Pauline Del Rosario, Megan Furtney, Celine Herbin, Sara Im, Auston Kim, RM Malixi, Brooke Rivers and Elizabeth Szokol.
*****
The Hawaii info card says that one spot is available and Tiff Chan has owned this qualifier for the last 4-5 years at least. But, having Koiwai there might throw a monkey wrench into Tiff's machinery ... and forget about RLB.
Question: Let's say Saku-chan leaves Hawaii with only a suntan. Let's also assume that she improves her current Rolex ranking of #82 to #75 or better by July 3. Does she still get into the USWO, even though she bombed out of an earlier qualifier? Based upon how I read the USGA regs, the answer is YES.
BTW, So Young Lee is at Rolex #76 and has been between 70 and 77 this year. If she gets to #75 on July 3, will she play the USWO? She wasn't opposed to going when I saw her on Lancaster's range in 2015.

*********
The first round is completed in Hawaii and Tiff Chan opened at +1, which put her in a tie for 3rd place, two shots back. Sakura Koiwai came to her senses and was a WD ... she just played in Japan on Sunday and is the defending champ this week for an event starting Thursday ... going round-trip to Hawaii in between seems kinda crazy. She's #81 on Rolex now ... just rack up some top results thru the end of June and she'll reach #75 with ease.
