Now that they are sunsetting this tournament, a quick look back at some of the highlights of it and its precursor, the CJ 9 Bridges Classic. 2002: it was fitting that Se Ri won the first trophy at this tournament. 2003: the first Cinderella. 19-year-old Shi Hyun Ahn not only became the first KLPGA player to win tour membership by winning an LPGA event, she did it by downing defending champ Se Ri Pak head-to-head. Jin Joo Hong and Jee Young Lee would join her in the next few years. 2013: Amy Yang collected her first LPGA win after several years of trying, and did it in a playoff over popular Hee Kyung Seo. Two years later, she would make history by becoming the first LPGA player to birdie every hole on the back nine, and she did it at this very tournament. 2014: In Gee Chun looked poised to join the ranks of KLPGA Cinderellas when she got into a playoff for the title. But she hit it into the water on the playoff hole, leaving Q Baek to claim the title and tour card. 2016: Se Ri Pak plays her final round of competitive golf in front of her home crowd, and the emotions ran high. 2017: One of the greatest rounds of golf in LPGA history. The crowds were ridiculous as uber-popular Sung Hyun Park, In Gee Chun and Jin Young Ko duked it out in the final group on Sunday. In Gee would have to wait to win this tournament, as Ko became the fifth KLPGA star to claim this crown. 2018: In Gee Chun at last gets her Hana Bank win, playing a brilliant 66-66 weekend to end a two year winless streak.

Agreed, although I think the ANA is not nearly as valuable as most think; the crowds are anemic, whereas at least occasionally the crowds get decent at the Evian (thought not anything like those in Korea). It's time for the LPGA to stop propping up the LET constantly -- two Majors and the Solheim -- when you have robust tours on the other side of the world dying to celebrate women's golf. I would propose creating an Asian Major that would jointly be sanctioned by the JLPGA, KLPGA and LPGA. They could rotate the event through Asia, mainly in Korea and Japan at first, but eventually Thailand, Malaysia and other proven Asian markets could also sponsor it.

I like it as well, as long as they keep the ANA. My favorite Major. They just need to do a better job of promoting it. I wonder if they could change the date, when it's not so hot. Then maybe more people would come.

If they keep the ANA, the HAVE to start growing the rough more. It's ridiculous to have a Major played on a course that is so favorable to long hitters. The only years it is fun is when they do grow the rough out to at least somewhat tame the bombers.

So to give the middle of the pack golfers a chance to win with a hot putter.

A black eye for Mike Whan and LPGA
[In the editorial office] Former cognition, Ogden, and Asad CCUnfortunately, the two domestic LPGA competitions have been canceled. Hana Financial Group announced that it would break up with the LPGA on the grounds that it did not discuss the holding of another LPGA tournament in advance. It was the end of the 13-year-old contest when the LPGA tournament monopoly collapsed. The monopoly of the metropolitan area did not go to the LPGA, and ironically it resulted in a "Busan monopoly."
