Round 4
WAHOO! AT LAST! Fan-FRICKING-TASTIC! Way to go In Gee, you were absolutely brilliant today and all week.
It was a thrill to watch her make clutch play after clutch play. THAT'S the In Gee Chun I remember! But I have to confess, at the end when they showed her getting teary while talking to the press, I choked up, too. Wow, the most emotional moment of the season for me.
What more can I say? Most of the top players on the leaderboard were playing merely OK, and In Gee cut through them like a hot knife through butter. 66-66 on the weekend. That is top of the top! This two weeks alone has made up for the whole rest of the season. So special.
It was a good week for a number of stars. Jin Young was on FIRE, shooting a 64 to move into the top ten. Seon Woo Bae was top KLPGAer, but heavy kudos to Lucky Six and Ji Yeong Kim, who both shot 68s to move to the top 20. Yet another top 20 in an LPGA event for Lee.
And let's not forget A Lim Kim. She remembered that she's great and shot a 66 of her own. Not a great overall result, but a nice memory to take with her til next time.
Ji Hyun Oh even had a 70 to move under par for the week. Not a result she'll celebrate, but I like that she at least put some good scores on her card.
But it's all about In Gee Chun this week. Overcoming nasty internet comments, crippling self doubt, and her grandmother's sickness, she reasserted the great form we remember so well. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
In Gee Chun

Same here Happy Fan. I followed In Gee when she was only playing on the KLPGA. When she move up to the LPGA I was thrilled. This past 2 weeks was just awesome!

In Gee gained 62 Rolex points for her win; she catapulted from No. 27 to No.12.
nothing much will happen this week even if she wins. A win is only worth 20.5 points and her divisor will go up from 46 to 47.
Minjee Lee moved to No. 5 from No. 7 and Lucky 6 remains at No. 19.

Maybe I read it wrong. Ingee back to 6th.

Maybe I read it wrong. Ingee back to 6th. Golf rankings, be it Rolex or OWGR, favors winners and punishes players who don't win. The difference between winner and 10th is 86%; more than 6 times the 14% difference between 10th and missed cut. In other word, finishing 10th is almost as bad as missed cut. Sung Hyun is No. 1 because of her 3 wins; one was a lucky 2 rounder. She hasn't done much otherwise.

I may be wrong, but I don't think in the Race to the CME Globe, the points have been updated yet. . . I was expecting Jin Young to pick up 90 points for her 7th place finish. . .that would have vaulted her into 5th place which is very important when contending for the million dollar prize. . . Well the update just took place. . .Yup Jin Young up to 5th with a 70 point cushion. . .

This tournament will have the smallest field of at most 27 players

Wow, over 1300 comments and counting. I've never seen anything like that for any of the Korean golfers. You think she's loved? I also love how math queen In Gee has all these numerical theories about her win. The final round was 10/14; her tee time was at 10:14... And it was her 14th win. She forgot one, though: 10 + 14 = 24, which is her age. It was destined to be!

So if it comes down to which one gets inside the top five. So Yeon would be my choice. My hope is that they both get inside the top five. Edit: However So Yeon may not play all the tournaments.

Perhaps a little explanation for those unfamiliar with what we're talking about would help. . .If you're in the top five, and win the CME Tour Championship, you automatically win the million dollar bonus. . . Otherwise you need to be in the top twelve to have a chance at the bonus, but a lot of things have to fall into place, even a win would not guarantee the bonus. . .
Also of great interest to me is the Rookie of the Year race where Jin Young has a 339 point lead, and furthermore it appears Georgia Hall will not play in this new event coming up. . .

The Race to CME Globe has finally been updated at LPGA.com; Jin Young Ko is No. 5 with 2,133, So Yeon Ryu No. 6 with 2,063. In Gee Chun is No. 15 with 1,546; she's run out of time because she will only play TOTO Japan Classic before Tour Championship. She'll need to win or second to have a shot at Top 12.
