Sung Hyun's fate is sealed in the Western world. She is now, for better or worse, Sung Hyooon Park. She has suffered the same fate as figure skating legend Yeon Ah "Yoooona" Kim--the Western world decided to give her a new name. To be fair Sung Hyun should have spelled it as Seong Hyeon. Although the tv people used to call NYC "Na Yooon". There really is no way to idiot proof against golf commentators. Somehow all other sports seem to handle the same matter with ease. So what is the preferred pronunciation? Was Mi Hyun Kim wrong back in the day? I don’t remember any complaints then. And what is the ‘correct ‘ pronunciation of Ryu? SYR is Yoo, but the pitcher (Dodgers) is Reeyoo. Ryu is a tricky one, I think. So Yeon and Hyunjin are not the same Ryu. So Yeon should spell her's like Yoo IMO. Mi Hyun is the same as Sung Hyun: hyeon (rhymes with Yeon as in So Yeon)

As much as I'm disappointed with In Gee; I would be as equally disappointed if her week is like Sung Hyun or Minjee.
Golf is such a funny game; Pornanong's fans may be disappointed for nine years but they can't be more disappointed today.
In Gee will win again and her fans will be jubilated; but the saddest part for me is that she isn't the same caliber of golfer that I envisioned in 2015.

I wonder if I went for dinner at HoJo Kim's house on a Friday she would make me all-you-can-eat fried clam strips. You have to be of a certain age to get that joke. During the early '70s I lived within walking distance of the HOJO on the southbound side of the GSP, just south of Upper Montclair CC. There's a McDonald's there now.
The boxed ones sold at Supermarkets were sinfully delicious...I don't think this product exists anymore. I'll have to check on my next visit to Shop-Rite...haven't had them in ages. It's still sold under different brands. But I've become a fried clam snob in my old age...no more strips. Only fresh whole fried clams (with the soft bellies) will do. Can't get those frozen. There are some great little clam shacks along the Atlantic seaboard. The Legal Seafoods chain usually has them too. I was pulling for Porna after all these years, but it was a well deserved win by Hall.

Good grief, they were playing Georgia On My Mind when they were still tied.

Mi Hyun is the same as Sung Hyun: hyeon (rhymes with Yeon as in So Yeon) Hyun rhymes with fun. No oooo sound. huh-yun. I heard Mi Hyun's name pronounced (wrongly) 'MY Hyun' and 'Mee Hyoon' many times. Sun Young Yoo and So Yeon Ryu have the same last name, pronounced Yoo. However, because she chooses to anglicize it with an 'R', I feel like it's OK to pronounce it Roo (hence her nickname Kanga-Roo). To me, that's like Grace Park and Se Ri Pak. Both have the same last name, but because Grace chooses to anglicize her name as she does, you would not call her Grace Pak, even though that's technically correct. Weirdly, they tend to get Hye Jung Choi right. Hay Jung Chay is about how to pronounce it, although I always think it's 'Hi' when I see it and have to correct myself.

Amazing there were 38 women ranked higher than Georgia Hall at the start of the week. Sei Young Kim was ranked 21st. Think about that. It's starting to get pretty damn deep with great golf swings and scorers.

Round 4 I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's so hard to be a So Yeon Ryu fan... Congratulations to Hall. Like Lindberg, she just seemed in a zone and unshakable all week. I actually had a sinking feeling this was coming as early as Friday, having already witnessed this at the ANA. My only fear is that, now that the golf media have a western face in the Rookie race (though still well back of the lead), that they will start ignoring Jin Young and featuring only Hall in the broadcasts, like they did with Hannah Green for a while. Jin Young has had a brilliant year, consistent from end to end, and a win; she deserves better and I hope she gets it. I basically skipped about an hour of coverage after So Yeon had that debacle at 2. Man. That plugged lie just shook her and she didn't recover. So Yeon makes plenty of mistakes, but it would be nice if she got a break now and again; how about a hole-out, or a long eagle, or something like that? That bunker was just rude. Give her credit; she did magnificently rally to secure third. She'd have a great chance at the Annika award if she could just win one of these. This course has always been a disappointment for the Sisters; in five tries they have never won here. The low point was when Se Ri and Annika had that epic battle in 2003 (?). Se Ri hit her drive into one of those death bunkers on 18 (she should have used her three wood, it was one of those in the middle of the fairway!), allowing Annika to not only win but complete the career Grand Slam. Of course, whenever they talk about that tournament now, they NEVER mention Se Ri and what a great battle it was. Even Annika couldn't stop gushing about how exciting that was for her, and how she had to raise her game to win. Why is it with the PGA, they always talk about the battles between the top players at Majors, but with the women they just skip to the winner (unless the loser is someone like Wie, of course)? Wow, Sung Hyun self destructed. Just like at ANA. Why is she only unstoppable when she is catching up to So Yeon like at KPMG? Same exact deficit there, but there she was incredible. Great 66 by Sei Young to prevent this from being too embarrassing a leaderboard. In Gee started well but faded; another middling result, her ninth in a row at a Major. JE Lee 5 nearly grabbed a top ten; it was funny how none of the "expert" commentators knew she was JE Lee 5 and not 6. They REALLY need to get an Asian in the commentary box. In the top 14, there were only three non-Asians. Ah well, another bummer, but onward we roll. Hwaiting! MJ Hur and In Gee made for the tallest Korean twosome today Sei Young Kim

First congratulation to Georgia Hall for a gutsy win. A tough finish for Pornanong, but second place is a great tournament.
So Yeon got off to another slow start. She could have dropped her head and thought of how unlucky she was. After the triple bogey. Instead she fought her way back to a third place finish. She may not have won the tournament. But I know one thing is that...she has the heart of a champion.
Kudos to Sei Young Kim for her final round score.

That was brilliant to watch, I would say the best major of the year so far, and that's high praise given the previous three all went to playoffs.
It's hard to believe that So Yeon didn't win with the amount of birdies she made. A slow start yesterday and that awful triple bogey today cost her.
Having said that, Hall only made three bogeys all week, and one of those came on the final hole today when she played her first putt ridiculously safe because she already had the tournament won.
Big disappointment for me was Jin Young. Her tee-to-green game is made for a golf course like Lytham where big numbers lurk on nearly every hole.
Perhaps the pressure is getting to her in the majors? Ever since she finished runner-up in the 2015 British on major debut, she hasn't had a top-10.

Disappointing finish for Jessica Korda, plus six today. I was hopping that she would at least get a top ten.

There is one last Howard Johnson's restaurant kicking around out there, in Lake George, NY. Around this time last year the BBC sent one of their reporters, ironically named Howard Johnson, to check it out:www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-40866112/last-orders-for-an-american-roadside-legendKevin
