Is there a bracket we can fill out? Maybe Golf Channel is running a contest.

Picking their opponents. It looks like this is not going to be a true traditional match play format. They have divided the field into 16 groups of four players each. The first three rounds are played in those pods. My guess is that the top player from each group advances into the round of 16. So my guess is that the below picking is just deciding who ends up in the pod with these top players... Jeong Eun Lee 6 vs. Han Sol Ji Ji Hyun Kim 2 vs. Ran Hong Ji Hyun Kim 1 vs. Bo Kyung Kim Ji Hyun Oh vs. So Young Lee Yoon Ji Cho vs. Min Ji Kim 5 Cecilia Cho vs. So Yeon Park Seon Woo Bae picked Shi Hyun Ahn Min Sun Kim 5 vs. Seon Won Park Hae Rym Kim will take on Jin Joo Hong Holy Moly! Inbee Park picked... Seon Hwa Lee!!!

Here are the 16 groups of 4 players. Each player will play every other player in her bracket in match play. They get points for wins and ties. The highest total advances (presumably there are tiebreakers).
Group 1: Inbee Park (1) Song Yi Ahn (32) Chae Lin Yang (33) Seon Hwa Lee (64)
Group 2: Jin Young Ko (2) Chae Yoon Park (31) Eun Bin Lim (34) Hyun Ji Ryu (63)
Group 3: Su Yeon Jang (3) So Yi Kim (30) Da Ye Na (35) Eun Soo Jang (62)
Group 4: Tough bracket! All four players have won on the KLPGA Seung Hyun Lee (4) Jung Min Lee (29) Hye Youn Kim (36) Q Baek (61)
Group 5: Seon Woo Bae (5) Shi Hyun Ahn (28) Hye Jung Choi 2 (37) Ka Ram Choi (60)
Group 6: Hae Rym Kim (6) Jin Joo Hong (27) Hyo Rin Lee (38) Eun Woo Choi (59)
Group 7: Min Sun Kim 5 (7) Seong Won Park (26) Yeon Ju Jung (39) Jung Hwa Lee 2 (58)
Group 8: Cecilia Cho (8) So Yeon Park (25) Min Sung Ha (40) Ah Lim Kim (57)

The first three rounds are played in those pods. My guess is that the top player from each group advances into the round of 16. What is now the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play adopted this format two years ago in part to ensure that the entire field played at least three matches and to maximize the chances of having more of the top players make the round of 16, since this way a bad round on day one won't be costly provided a player posts good results in the other two pool matches. In pool play one point goes to the winner and halved matches net a half point for each player (they don't play extra holes in pool play). If two or three players in a pool finish on top a sudden death playoff is conducted.

This is not just Inbee's first event in Korea in over a year; this is also her first event in Korea since winning the gold medal and becoming a national hero. It will be interesting to see how she is greeted by the Korean fans.

Yes, the five-day round-robin format is definitely better if you can afford NOT to have a pro-am...and the KLPGA has no pro-am this week. I wonder what Doosan coughed up to get Winbee for this one. Could this be a growing trend to bring in foreign tour Sisters to gin up interest? A Japanese article on Sharon includes comments from a veteran Korean photographer regarding the KLPGA being hollowed out with declining galleries, due to the exit of stars to Japan and the U.S. news.golfdigest.co.jp/news/gdoeye/jlpga/article/68693/1/

There has been some instability in Korea for a while now. Now that a lot of questions are beginning to be answered. Maybe the corporations will pony up more money for the tour. To try and keep their star players.

You know, I would expect that the interest in the KLPGA would decrease with so many stars leaving, but every article I have read about it seems to contradict that. Apparently the ratings are still strong and the galleries for the most part still good.
My guess is that the KLPGA tournaments that invite stars like Inbee are trying to stand out in an increasingly crowded field of tournaments. Once upon a time there were only 15-20 events a year, but now they are around 30. A tournament needs a special draw to stand out.

There should be an expectation that the invitee plays well, too, and is rewarded for that in the future. For instance, Gimmee stunk it up last week and should not be brought back, while Mi Hyang finished 2nd in the 2016 MBN and should be brought back.

3putt you do realize that Japan has a lot more corporate money than a divided Korea.
