www.golfchannel.com/news/doug-ferguson/ochoa-returning-her-lpga-event-may"Asked if she was still good, Ochoa smiled and said, ''No.'' ''I cannot hit after my 6-iron. The 5-iron and 4-iron, it's impossible,'' she said with her infectious laugh. ''The driver is OK. For sure, I don't have the strength, so it is difficult to play the long irons. If I get in the rough, I don't know what I'll do. ... It's been a long time. We'll see what happens.'' *********************************************************************************************** If Lorena is allowed to cross THE WALL into Phoenix....I'm sure Ping will have her outfitted with great sticks including 5,4,3 hybrids that she'll smoke. And get this...long retired Lorena will likely hat a logo on her hat...unlike Dumbo. I'm sure Lorena can still hit her 5 and 4 irons...she's likely just not creating the ball speed to launch them high like she did in the past....that's why hybrids were created. I assume 63 pros will be invited for match play...might be embarrassing for the pros losing to Lorena. If they didn't have a booth for this event at the Mexico Championship promoting the event with discounted tickets...they are fools....they also should have flown in Gaby to work the booth too. Make Mexico Great Again.

Lorena can still play. It's a real drag she retired. She needs to dump those kids off at a boarding school and get back on tour.

It is a shame that Lorena is only playing in an exhibition. Maybe Won can take a ten minute break from taking credit for the recent, modest rise in the LPGA's popularity and change the rules and let Lorena into the Hall of Fame.

I think the exhibition sounds great--tailor made for an old timer like me. I hope parts of it are televised. Hopefully, Se Ri is no longer injured. I have no doubt that Annika could still compete and win on the LPGA tour. Inkster is a still a golfer and Lorena hasn't been away from the game all that long. You better believe they will all be practicing hard over the next two months.

Seems like Se Ri might embarrass herself....if she doesn't have a logo on her hate....the lame Koreans have failed again.....ya know Lorena & Mannika will be shilling for someone. It will be interesting how they cover the exhibition...I expect IGC will offer little.

The field will be announced on April 25. We may have a Korda vs. Korda. That would be as much fun as Jessica vs Danielle in the US Amateur. I was hoping it could end in a tie, because I wanted either one to win.

What an insult to Mexico. I don't understand why a great idea like match play, hosted by one of the great players of the modern era isn't televised. Especially, now that we are at war with Canada and not our neighbor to the south.
You better believe Whan would televise this event if Lexi was playing. Sad!

I have a very reliable contact who has been previously involved with this event. It nearly didn't happen in 2016...because of sponsorship issues. It wasn't televised in 2016 because one of the sponsors committed less money...must be the same reason this year too. This guy is a really good source for disclosing who some of the DRAMA QUEENS are on tour through his observations....and other good info.

It seems the cutoff is Christina Kim, who is No. 79 on 2017 official money list. Jing Yan, No. 80, is the first alternate.
Both Paula Creamer, No. 102 and Hee Young Park, No. 103, missed the cutoff.

I couldn't find out Yani Tseng's ranking on 2017 Official Money List; so I turned to the player page.
To my utmost surprise; Yani hasn't earned a single official money during 2017 season; she's behind Na Yeon Choi.

I'd like to see brackets with names, but can't find it.
The Spanish section of the tournament website is the only place I could find the field criteria. Per Google translate:
Order of Qualification. Check here the list of players according to the three qualification criteria.
How are the players chosen to be part of LOY?
The 64 players who are part of CITIBANAMEX LORENA OCHOA MATCH PLAY PRESENTED BY AEROMEXICO AND DELTA. They are selected under three qualification criteria endorsed by the LPGA and the Organizing Committee of the tournament.
Rolex Rankings.
The first criterion of qualification is through the international ranking of professional female golf; The Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings. The 20 best placed golfers on April 25 of the year enter directly into the field of the tournament.
LPGA Money List.
42 of the 64 Match Play locations are assigned to the top ranked players according to LPGA win list; To 25 of April.
Special Guests
Under the Match Play format, the Organizing Committee of the tournament has the possibility to invite two players to form part of the official field of the tournament.
This year Lorena Ochoa organized a qualifying tournament with the help of the Mexican Golf Professional Association (IGPM). Where an official invitation was given to the champion of the tournament. Thus on February 23 the Mexican Ana Menéndez, became the second Mexican confirmed to the tournament. The first invitation was assigned to Gaby López who is currently the best positioned Mexican golfer in the world ranking.
