news20.busan.com/controller/newsController.jsp?newsId=20160920000325I hope Hye Jin Choi tears it up at this week's KLPGA Fantom Classic with YTN. I'm glad I saw her play twice this past summer, because she is a phenomenal talent. I did a look-up to see what she has been doing lately. The article link above was posted on September 20, which had this pic: I pushed it through Google Translator...out of the mush it seems to say that she's 165 cm tall (almost 5' 5 1/2") and drives it 250-260 yards. She plans to turn pro in the second half of 2017. ************ More recently, she played the 97th National Sports Festival, where she finished 2nd by one stroke with a 9-under 279...her 4th-round 64 was the lowest one-day score of the event. She represented Busan (standing on far left) which finished 2nd in the team scoring. I don't know why she has two medals...maybe the second was for that 64:

philknj Do you have higher hope for Hye Jin Choi than Eun Jeong Seong? Junior obviously has more raw power, and I can't dismiss her two USGA wins this summer. On the other hand, she totally bombed out of USWO qualifying at Canoe Brook CC...which is the real Junior? There's a controlled, surgical precision to Choi's overall game that is really appealing.

We need a nickname for Choi.
Hmmmm....that's a good sign...Choi belongs to Club 56....she's destined for greatness.....lol. Choi has a huge divisor in the WAGR rankings...that's hurting her.
IMO....I think Choi will have a better career than Junior.....ya I also think her precision will shine through. She better not attend The Good Doctor's robot factory....Choi will be best served in Se Ri's academy.

I get that feeling about Choi, too. She just seems overall solid, while Seong still has a few holes in her game. However, Seong shellaqued her when they met at the US Women's Amateur this year. That might have been due to the course favoring Seong's game, but before that match Choi had been winning her matches easily, so who knows? My guess re: the two medals is one is for the team result and one for the individual result.

By the way, the title of the article is "Do you know about Hye Jin Choi, Amateur Golf's version of In Gee Chun?" Good compliment for both In Gee and Hye Jin!

I think the point is that she is a superstar of the amateur ranks much like In Gee is a pro superstar. I don't think they are comparing their actual games.

But, isn't Inbee still the biggest fish, especially with her Olympics Gold?

Great find, I forgot about this event...Muni He won it last year, but did not play this year. Unfortunately, the AJGA did not post any videos for this one on its Youtube account like they did last year. From AJGA article: Choi is the first player since Jung Min Lee in 2008 to win the Polo Golf Junior Classic in her AJGA debut and the first since Ariya Jutanugarn in 2012 to win both the stroke play and match play titles.

I'm looking forward to seeing Hye C in San Diego. She has a knowing smile, like Palmer.
