The Marquess’ course of Woburn Golf Club will be the venue July 28 – 31. A preliminary field of 122 is in place...22 more spots will be filled. They’ll have a pre-qualifier for the wannabes on July 11 at Berkshire GC and the real qualifier on July 25 at John O’Gaunt GC. Also, a top-5 score thru 36 holes by an LPGA member at this week’s Cambia Portland will get her in (if she's not exempt already).
The JLPGA will be represented by Hee Kyeong Bae, Asuka Kashiwabara, Teresa Lu, Yukari Nishiyama, JY Shin, Ai Suzuki and Momoko Ueda. Shin (past winner between 2006 & 2015) and Lu (top-15 in 2015 RWBO) are exempt from qualifying. The other five players are from the 2016 JLPGA money list thru last week’s Earth Mondamihn Cup...EXCLUDING the players who chose not to file an entry, such as Bo Mee Lee, Ha Neul Kim, Ayaka Watanabe, and others. Ayaka Matsumori filed an entry, but she’ll probably have to get in via the July 25 qualifier...hmm, good looks AND ambitious!
The KLPGA will be represented by S.H. Park and Jung Min Lee. The top-two KLPGA players on the 2016 money list are exempt from qualifying...EXCLUDING the players who chose not to file an entry. The real shocker is JY Ko, who would have gotten in via her 2nd place finish in 2015 or the 2016 money list, but chose not to enter.
Woburn GC is about twenty miles NW of central London and they’re playing an inland tree-lined course. I assume the climate will be much more agreeable compared to the monsoon/frostbite possibilities of the Scottish coast.

All the stiff American golfers, like Curtis Strange, regret they chose not to play many Opens. I hope BML doesn't look back someday and wish she gave The Weetabix a chance.

Weird that Jin Young Ko would choose to skip this. Her spot on the KLPGA money list last year might not have been high enough, nor her world ranking, and perhaps her finish last year doesn't mean diddly? Just spitballing here...
Still, given she nearly won, I would think she would earn some kind of exemption...

Unless Hanwha kicks in some $, she'll have to get to the 7/25 qualifier as a stowaway. LGU.org has the full list of everyone who submitted an entry. From the homepage, click Championships, click Ricoh Women's British Open, and click Entries.

So how will Charley Hull perform?
Isn't Woburn a course recently bought by the Chinese.

So how will Charley Hull perform? Isn't Woburn a course recently bought by the Chinese. I didn't realize that Women British Open will be played at Charley's home course. But it's never a true advantage; Jason Day (Memorial at Muirfield Village) could attest to that. The Chinese bought Wentworth Club, I'm not sure about Woburn Golf Club.

Yes, the white stiffs at Wentworth don't like bowing down to their Chinese masters. Personally, I hope they bulldoze all 36 and build highrise condos for sale to Asians only. Welcome to the real world.

Welcome to the real world. Sounds like Vancouver....so many Chinese are tearing down $6M+ homes to build new homes....the whitey's are losing it and whining to the mayor....yet it's the Chinese who have made these same whitey's rich too....they houses the bought for $400,000 in the 1990's are worth well over $2.5M. www.vancouversun.com/business/bulldozer+bait+million+mansion+just+another+vancouver+tear+down/11686111/story.htmlThe Smiling Buddha is trying to find one of the many lonely Chinese house wives who are here with their kids going to school...while their husbands stay in China to watch over the business and play footsy with their 20 year old secretaries. So if you see an attractive middle aged Chinese lady driving a Bentley wearing a Honma visor leaving a dim sum joint heading to Shaughnessey G&CC with an ugly Chinese guy in the passenger seat...that would be the Smiling Buddha.....getting ready to provide some free golf lessons.

It's pretty funny that Ms. Hull will be a sort of ambassador for the WBO at her home club. Does she play there or just sponsored by them? When I think international emissary I think Charley Hull.

Time to revive this thread; unlike a Scottish link course Woburn is more like an American parkland course.
