Did Team Horndog give Angela the bookend wet ones, as is customary for the winner? I think that might have been a special "honor" just bestowed upon In Gee.

Round 4 All in all, this could have worked out worse, but to be frank it was yet another disappointing Major in a season of them. Congrats to Angela Stanford; I guess it's better than having yet another journeyman player win a Major. To be frank, I think it somewhat degrades the entire tour when you keep having the stars underperform in the biggest tournaments while unknowns win. If Olson keeps playing well and putting up top finishes in the next few years, then maybe in the future I'd be happy to see her win, but to have another player who had never won nor seriously contended before make her first win a Major would have been bad I think. Of course, Stanford is far from my favorite player. I'm not going to forget that she supported Bivens' English-or-else policy. She also famously claimed she would no longer play anywhere where 'she had to bring a passport'. I guess she must have become a French citizen and we didn't notice. Or maybe that was yet another sideways knock at the Asian tournaments and thus the Asians on tour? Whatever. Anyways, the stars did underperform and how. It was kind of a mess, this final round. Inbee played all right, but given she was five back to start the day, she needed to be better than all right. She needed one of her patented charges. In fact, she only needed a 68 to get into a playoff. At least she managed a top ten, but still underwhelming for a player of her caliber. Sei Young did everything she could to blow this and still came just one birdie putt away from a potential win. I knew all the way she was going to miss that one, she just had not been making any big plays all day. But there were some positives! JE Lee was a joy every time she appeared on the screen. Not only did she play well (finishing tied for SIXTH, naturally), but she had a wonderful happy expression that told me she was over the demons from the Salonpas collapse. Can't wait to see her over here, hopefully soon! Jin Young went from 9 back to three back by the end of the day. She played well and Hall finally had problems. Ko will lose some ground in the ROY race but should stay more than a win ahead of Hall. Whew! So Yeon and In Gee also had decent days, especially So Yeon, who showed some grit in charging to a top ten. Chun didn't have a great week, but shot four rounds under par for a top 20 and had one of her better recent Majors. Baby steps. Sisters Hwaiting!! Sei Young Inbee Hot Six In Gee had an all-Korean group on Sunday Jenny Shin Chella Choi Mi Hyang Lee

To be fair, he says that not as a judgement of the event overall but as a criticism of the specific fact that there is usually a backup at the 2nd hole.
However, he later talks about the tepid applause in response to Stanford's eagle. Look, I don't know this writer from Adam, but if he's comparing that to the type of response you would see at a men's event, I think that a tad unfair. The women don't have the big crowds that the men generate, especially in Europe. It's one reason I don't think the Evian should be a Major, full stop.
But thankfully the fans of the LPGA don't have to endure all the relentless old-money pomposity and boring mythologizing that seems to come hand-in-hand with the men's game and its coverage. I like the meat-and potato vibe of the women's tour personally. There's something about seeing all those old fossils and their second or third iteration wives at the men's Majors (especially the Masters) that makes my skin crawl.
ON STUPPLES: Stupples referred to swing changes that Amy Olson has made the past two years with her swing coach. The natural question is: What are those changes? Stupples didn’t go to that next level and tell us... If Stupples had taken 30 seconds to share a couple of details about Olson’s swing changes and their impact on her game, that would have been great information. But we didn’t get that.
But he also states that Stupples is second best commentator in all of golf at breaking down players' swings. Personally, my biggest gripe about her is that she still hasn't learned when to interject a story or lengthy observation and when to let the action speak for itself. And once she gets going, forget about the action, we have to listen to her entire bit first.
My biggest complaint about the coverage in general is the obvious favoritism towards certain players, mostly Americans but also including a certain Canadian. That's why I would love to get at least one commenter in there who is not coming at this from an American angle. They really need an Asian American or Asian commentator. Someone should contact Soo Yun Kang, I hear she'll be looking for work soon!

What about Lucky 6. . .did her 6th place finish qualify her for LPGA membership? If it does, then we're all winners, especially the LPGA. . . Lucky 6 is still about $200,000 away from securing a Top 40 equivalent non-member earning. A solo 2nd at LPGA KEB Hana Bank Championship is worth $186,000; it may not be enough. I don't know what her combined earnings totals are(looks to be around $250,000), but she earned some $121,000 in this tournament(combined that would be $370,000). . . and I noticed in 40th place on the money list was Anna with $444,000 for the year. . . so if 40th place doesn't change much she would need to earn some $75,000 at the Hana Bank. . .and that sounds doable to me . . .(last year 5th place earned $82,000). . . but not going to the Ricoh and the MC at KPMG hurts. . .getting in the weeds like this is making my head hurt!

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the rule that allows a player to earn a tour card by making enough money but not winning. It favors players who get a lot of invites to tournaments. Lee is not going to get many sponsor's exemptions (she did get Mediheal. Any others?). Whereas popular American amateurs or players like Henderson often max out their exemptions.
Yeah, I suppose you are more likely to win if you get more invites, too, but I think if you can manage a win on a limited schedule you do deserve a tour card.
So anyways, much as I'd like to see Lee over here, I'd rather she won an event than get in through the back door. And she definitely is capable of that, so GO LUCKY SIX!

Anyone else put off when Stanford could only sob like a baby when Tom Abbott put the mic in front of her? Go ahead, call me a meanie, I don't care. Get a grip girl, this was your 6th LPGA win...it's not like you were ever in danger of losing your card and going back to q-school if you didn't win. I wanted to hear you TALK...say something about your swing or swing coach or equipment or your mental coach, etc...give me some golf reasons why you won. Did she ever get around it? Because I was watching on my PC and then shut it off, I couldn't take her bawling anymore.
The other big story is Amy Olson needing (and not getting) a Heimlich Maneuver before each of her swings at the par-4 18th...at total gag job. That is a great finishing hole for a Major (or any other tournament). I'm really disappointed that the Evian Horndog-in-Chief is talking about making it a par-5 again. He knows nothing about golf, but the LPGA loves him because he spends money like a drunken sailor.
France is a really weird place for golf...did they show this on TV? Stanford getting the trophy from Jean-Claude Killy?!
Did Team Horndog give Angela the bookend wet ones, as is customary for the winner?
Lucky 6 captured the parachute guy.
I couldn't take more than a few seconds of Stanford blubbering either, turned off the TV in disgust. I didn't begrudge though. That's the kind of reaction I expect from that caliber of player in that situation. She turned forty years old this year goddamnit. That is harder on a woman I think. (I'm half-joking around of course) Though it wasn't up my alley, maybe the histrionics were sort of good for the Evian's image. While Angela was losing her shit I did have the thought, Whoa, maybe this is kind of a big tournament, to some people at least.

A fairly hilarious review of the Evian TV coverage by Martin Kaufman at Golfweek: golfweek.com/2018/09/16/evian-still-searching-for-that-major-championship-vibe/ON THE TOURNAMENT: It looks less like a major championship than something you might see on a Saturday morning at your local muni. ON JUDY: After Stanford hit two terrible shots on her way to a double bogey at No. 16, Rankin said: “This is, like, unbelievable to play this little hole this way.” Admittedly, I found it kind of cute that Rankin sounded a bit like a valley girl. But as I’ve been counseled repeatedly, it’s not “unbelievable” because, well, we just saw it happen. ON TOM: The normally cheerful Tom Abbott was a bit peeved early in Sunday’s coverage, and I have to say, it was with good reason. Judy is ridiculous and needs to be put out to pasture IMO. She continually treats Mo Martin like a granddaughter. Late in the broadcast yesterday she said that Mo is one of the finest women golfers she knows of. That's fine for Mo's grandma to say, but not so much for a commentator.

awhsonLet's be clear what Lucky 6 needs to do; her YTD earnings are: ANA $36,190 LOTTE $26,295 USWO $66,975 KPMG $0 Ricoh British DNP Evian $121,293
The total is $250,753
LPGA's YTD No. 40 is Anna Nordqvist at $444,751
The year end top 40 will be around $490,000
Lucky 6 needs to earn $239,247
Which is the same as saying she needs to win LPGA KEB Hana Championship.

Looks like I doubled up on her Evian earnings. . .told you my head was hurting. . .
If she needs to win, then her earnings won't matter anyway, . . .go, go, go Lucky Hot 6. . .
