This is one saying in golf that is so wrong. "At least she gave it a chance". Paula Creamer needed to birdie eighteen to finish even par to make the cut. She chipped her ball about twenty to twenty five feet pass the hole. Judy said "she gave it a chance". That ball had zero chance of hitting the hole and staying in.
The same when a amateur has a twenty foot birdie putt, and putt's it ten feet pass the hole. Then says.....I didn't leave a birdie putt short. No you didn't and will probably make bogey.
Have you ever hit a putt that would've gone 6 feet past the hole if it didn't go in?
Have you ever hit a putt that was tracking all the way until it stopped short?
Pink Diva needed a birdie. Par or bogey didn't matter
Paula's birdie putt at 17 came up about a foot short. Looked like it was tracking in too. Darn! Never up never in. She's #1 in greens hit from the fairway so far this year. And we'll see Paula in Rancho Mirage next week. Trunk slamming and heading to the desert to play in the ANA. All thanks to captain Julie Inkster..
Well, not gonna sugar coat it: it's a bummer that Kerr has managed to grab a big lead. Not exactly what I want to see. But there are still two rounds left, this one is far from over.
Inky had a late mess up that cost her a spot in the final group. So at least she won't be slow-played by Kerr. The bad news is that she's still five down. I would love to see her win this essentially hometown event at some point in her career. There's still time. I hope the guys who found her clubs were invited to follow her this weekend (they are from Carlsbad I think). Inky Hwaiting!
Hyejin Choi's nickname seems to be Penguin? I dimly recall someone mentioning it here, then saw a post on Instagram (in Korean) where someone used that name. So I'll run with it. Penguin's not at her best right now, but hopefully she can regroup as prep for next week.
Nice that Mirim also made the cut, I was worried for a minute.
Inbee, Jin Young and Sei Young all cold as well this week. But Rocket continues to shine, and So Yeon is still in decent position to make a run, especially if Kerr should stumble. Not sure what happened to Sung Hyun Park this week. Ouch!

Yes she needed a birdie, but hitting her chip that hard...... she had no chance of making it. I also said a putt ten feet pass the hole, not six feet.
Another note. Paula didn't have a collar on her blouse. Did the golfers complain about the new dress code... or just ignored it.
If you need to make it, you need to err on the side of being long versus being short.
Hitting it short has zero percent chance. Hitting it with enough speed to go past the hole allows for a better than zero chance. Even a skulled chip can hit the pin and drop in whereas a chunked chip will never go in.
