Shoal Creek ready for U.S. Women’s Open www.shelbycountyreporter.com/2018/05/10/shoal-creek-ready-for-u-s-womens-open/The last time Birmingham hosted a tournament of this magnitude was when Shoal Creek hosted the PGA Championship in 1990. To show the broadness of which this event stretches to and the importance of it, one of the first tickets purchased for the tournament came from Japan and Fox will be televising 20 hours of live coverage during the tournament with FS1 showing 10 hours the first two days and the network station showing 10 hours the final two days. Some of those changes include new greens that are full sand USGA component greens, different grass, new bunkers and a narrower fairway on every hole. It’s something the course is hoping will create for a challenging tournament, but also reward good golf shots.
