en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Winter_OlympicsThe link above has miscellaneous speculation on who's in the running for the 2026 Winter Games (the IOC will decide that Sept. 2019). Calgary is one of the major candidates and I hope they get it again. I really liked the '88 Games in Calgary. ******* Kristi Yamaguchi was just on TV ... on Wiki it says she's only 5' 1" tall ... that surprises me. It says she's still married to ex-NHLer Brett Hedican. Calgary did well building a trust fund from 1988. Kananaskis is a lousy downhill venue....I don't know why they didn't use Lake Louise. Could you imagine if Japan was awarded 2026? Two great golf courses at Kananaskis were ruined in a flood....but the Alberta govn't is spending the money to rebuild them. Back in the early 90's....Dorothy Hamill was using a pay phone next to me in the Hotel Vancouver's lobby....she was/is quite small too and still very attractive....late 30's Karen Magnussen has a pool named after her about 2 km away....she hasn't aged well at all....and also YUGE. Brian Orser was boarding the same plane as I years ago....on TV he looks fairly tall...but he's 5'5". Apart from Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko...are there any straight male skaters?

These games are poorly attended...shame on Korea....1/4 stadium last night when the Canucks gagged to the Yanks in women's hockey....1/2 stadium at best in women's figure skating....to make matters worse.....stadium capacities....10,000 & 12,000....PATHETIC attendance.
Looks like the Japanese will show up the Koreans again in 2 years.....Koreans just pirate everything from Japan....cars, electronics, etc

Canada's men's hockey team just humiliated their whole country by losing to frickin' Germany in the semifinals, 4-3. I won't crow about this as the USA team stunk worse. Canada's "reward" is to play the Czechs for the Bronze medal.

Man I have fallen hard for curling. Watching the semifinal I even developed a bit of a crush on Japan's very cute skipper Satsuki Fujisawa. And I love all the Garlic Girls obviously. They are so cute with their country bumpkin accents. Eun Jung unni is my favorite obviously, followed by Sunny.
Gold medal match is tomorrow 7pm ET. Be there or be square, suckas.

Watching the Canada/Germany replay...lots of empty seats in the corners. No doubt about it, including current NHLers would be the paramount form of Olympic hockey. The current hockey is not even as interesting as the Olympic hockey of the '70s & '80s, because the US and Canada were fighting uphill battles against state-sponsored Soviet SOBs...it was perfectly acceptable for North American hockey fans to HATE those red robots. I went foraging through my nightstand drawer where I have a small stack of The Hockey News from about thirty years ago. The Feb. 12, 1988 issue is a beauty...it previewed the Calgary Olympic hockey with Brian Leetch on the cover (the USA had cooler uniforms back then). The US had about eight quality future NHLers, but played no defense and got killed.

LMAO about that picture above...I'm not THAT bad...but I've got a few "temporary moveable" obstructions that I need to address, pronto. ***** They just had Karen Chen in a studio interview...and they had Tessa Virtue a little earlier. Both had their hair down and wore team warm-up suits...they looked much more attractive that way compared to the "severe" skating look they brought to the ice. You could probably say that about most of the women skaters. The exception is Katarina Witt...she could do no wrong with any look in any setting. I remember nothing from her '84 gold in Sarajevo, but Calgary is different. She skated pretty good, but left enough room for Debi Thomas to grab the gold...unfortunately, DT gagged badly in the long program and settled for bronze, while Canada's Elizabeth Manley snuck in there for silver. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Katarina Witt attend the IOC President's Dinner ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games on February 8, 2018 in Pyeongchang-gun, South Korea. ********* BTW, Canada is having a helluva good games in the medal count.

Katarina Witt is the original SMOKESHOW. Some guy brought in a Playboy to work....Witt's high beams were stunning....if cannlinny worked in the same office.... we'd have a huge HR case to deal with...just sayin.
Let's see if we can reach 30 medals.....lots of choking in hockey and curling.

While we've all been focusing on the Garlic Girls, let's not forget that there's a men's tournament as well and Team USA is going for gold for the first time ever at 0135EST against Sweden. With this year's Men's World Championship being held next month in Vegas it would be great if our gents went as Olympic champions.

Man oh man, that semifinal was one of the tensest events I have ever seen at the Olympics. I haven't been that on edge watching a Winter Olympic competition since Yuna Kim in 2010. The Koreans were playing well but looked vulnerable, and the Japanese seemed time and again to make the shot they needed to either negate the Garlic Girls or reduce their winning margin. Still, Team Kim had the advantage until end nine, when somehow Japan stole two points to move to within one. On the final shot, Korea bumped the yellow rock, but wound up inches farther away from the center to give Japan the incredible steal. If Annie was worried, she didn't show it, as she played brilliantly in the playoff, culminating in a perfect must-make win or loss shot to grab the victory. You can't write it any better! The winning shot. How come the golf commentators don't act like this? https://www.instagram.com/p/Bfis0F_Fiw8 The fans erupted after that. Great stuff! Good luck to the Garlic Girls in the gold medal game! Team Kim Hwaiting!
