Round 2
Round 2 was pretty much the same as round 1: two wins for the Korean team, one loss, one half; and the loss again came against the Japanese team. The half came from Sung Hyun Park/Min Sun Kim, who teamed to tie Sarah Kemp and Sarah Jane Smith. The two wins were Jung Min Lee/Yoon Ji Cho, who beat Marianne Skapnord and Emily Pedersen of the LET 2 up. The other win was Bo Mee Lee and Jin Young Ko, who beat Lindsey Wright and Nikki Garrett of the Aussie league 3 & 2. But once again, the team that on paper seemed the best, In Gee Chun and Sei Young Kim, lost to the Japanese. And it was a massacre: 5 & 4. I'm wondering if Sei Young was still sick and struggled? Someone who watched can tell me what happened, because it's not often you'd see two top-ten players get beaten that badly. They lost to Momoko Ueda and Erina Hara. The JLPGA has yet to lose, although at least today they had one half. So the scores are: JLPGA 22, KLPGA 14, LET 8, ALPG 1 I'm not sure if there is any realistic chance that the JLPGA could lose at this point, making the final round sound like it could be a bit perfunctory. But I'll tune in anyway and hope for the best. Go Korea!!!! Hwaiting! In Gee Chun/Sei Young Kim Min Sun Kim/Sung Hyun Park Bo Mee Lee/Jin Young Ko

The Sisters are matching up as follows in round 3:
ALPG Whitney Hillier vs. Jin Young Ko JLPGA Ayaka Watanabe vs. Yoon Ji Cho LET Hannah Burke vs. Bo Mee Lee JLPGA Shiho Oyama vs. Min Sun Kim LET Nannah Koertz Madsen vs. In Gee Chun LET Melissa Reid vs. Sei Young Kim ALPG Stephanie Na vs. Seon Woo Bae ALPG Nikki Garrett vs. Jung Min Lee JLPGA Momoko Ueda vs. Sung Hyun Park
If the Koreans want to win this, I think they have to win all three JLPGA matchups and most of the other matches as well. I honestly think the KLPGA has some good matchups here, but they are going to have to bring it tomorrow. GO SISTERS!!!

SBS Golf will show replays of Saturday's matches at these local times: SAT - 8 PM, 10:30 PM SUN - 8:30 AM SBS Golf changed their sked again...first broadcast of Sunday's finals will be 11 AM local time. Replays to follow at 6:30 PM and 10:30 PM. I dozed off towards the end, so I'll check out one of the replays. Park and MSK5 were up by 3 thru 12 and almost lost the match. MSK5 must be hard to play with in a foursome, because you never know when she'll hit the ball off the planet. I don't recall seeing any of the Dumbo/BadA$$ massacre...I couldn't believe their score posted on the bottom of the screen while they showed other matches. They only showed Sei Young and Ingee's match toward the end. They were already nearly closed out. I have to think it were fatigue by both players. Min Sun5 has to many moving parts to her swing. Her short game is not to good either. She will be a good fit on the LPGA. It seemed like all the KLPGA players struggled on the back nine. Surprised that Bo Mee and Jin Young match were that close.

The total purse was Y100 million. Team Korea received Y27 million for 2nd place. Y1 million went to charity...I hope to the needy, like the Australian Golf Federation. BTW, where was Karrie Webb? Was this event beneath her dignity? I think she would have made the difference between 3rd and 4th place. Could a combined Aussie/Kiwi team be in the cards one day? Assuming this tourney survives, do they plan to play it other countries? I'm guessing no, as Kowa is a Japanese company. They lucked out by not having snow this year, like in the old Pinx Cup. Sunday Singles Results: Match 1 Misuzu Narita (JLPGA) beat Catriona Matthew (LET) 6&5 Match 2 Jin Young Ko (KLPGA) beat Whitney Hillier (ALPG) 1 up Match 3 Laura Davies (LET) beat Sarah Kemp (ALPG) 2&1 Match 4 Min Sun Kim (KLPGA) beat Shiho Oyama (JLPGA) 3&2 Match 5 Akane Iijima (JLPGA) beat Lindsey Wright (ALPG) 4&2 Match 6 Sei Young Kim (KLPGA) beat Melissa Reid (LET) 5&4 Match 7 Seon Woo Bae (KLPGA) beat Stephanie Na (ALPG) 5&4 Match 8 Erika Kikuchi (JLPGA) beat Gwladys Nocera (LET) 4&3 Match 9 Sarah Jane Smith (ALPG) beat Emily Kristine Pedersen (LET) 5&4 Match 10 Ayaka Watanabe (JLPGA) beat Yoon Ji Cho (KLPGA) 1 up Match 11 Bo-Mee Lee (KLPGA) beat Hannah Burke (LET) 3&2 Match 12 Ritsuko Ryu (JLPGA) beat Katherine Kirk (ALPG) 5&4 Match 13 In Gee Chun (KLPGA) beat Nanna Koerstz Madsen (LET) 6&4 Match 14 Miki Sakai (JLPGA) beat Nikki Campbell (ALPG) 7&6 Match 15 Karine Icher (LET) halved with Erina Hara (JLPGA) Match 16 Jung Min Lee (KLPGA) beat Nikki Garrett (ALPG) 4&3 Match 17 Rachel Hetherington (ALPG) beat Marianne Skarpnord (LET) 2&1 Match 18 Sung Hyun Park (KLPGA) beat Momoko Ueda (JLPGA) 5&4 Cumulative Scores: JLPGA: 41 KLPGA: 38 LET: 12 ALPG: 7 Ayaka Watanabe after the championship clinching birdie putt at #18...with Erika Kikuki(L) and Misuzu Narita(R) Bo Mee Lee and Yoon Ji Cho Sei Young Kim and In Gee Chun G. A great comeback by the KLPGA fell a little short. Only one lost and resounding wins. Even though they didn't win, they showed that they had a lot of heart.
From her actions after her lost. Momoko acted like a sore loser.

From her actions after her lost. Momoko acted like a sore loser. I watched intermittently last...and hopefully can record it later today. But from my observations...Momoko looked really upset on her loss and looked like she was just about to cry...getting thrashed in front of her home crowd while all the other captains won. I didn't see any acts of poor sportsmanship. What did she do? EDIT So I watched my recording....I saw nothing that demonstrated that Momoko acted like a sore loser. If anything...it seemed like Sung Hyun Park looked like a sore winner.....she stuck out her hand for quick handshake with Momoko.....virtually not breaking stride walking by....hmmmmm....looks familiar....like a classic sore loser handshake from Stacy Pouty Face Lewis. OK....SH Park has a new nickname...she's Bada*s II.....Park is so serious when she plays it looks like if she doesn't like a playing partner she'd slap her in the side of the head. I hope SH Park makes the Int'l Crown and Olympic teams....the mild manner Koreans need some drama in team events.

Congrats to Japan on the win. I'm so proud of the way the Korean ladies played in the final round. There was absolutely no quit in them, and they made what could have been a boring rout into a very tense final few holes. In the end, they won 7 of 8 matches, which is more than you could have hoped for. But, like I said, they needed to sweep the Japanese matches, and the pivotal points came in the Cho/Watanabe matchup. It all came down to the 17th, AS, when Cho missed a fairly short birdie putt to hand Watanabe the lead. I think Cho felt a bit like the goat, but she really shouldn't. She still gave it her best, and winning 7 of 8 matches, like I said, is a great performance. I do wonder, though: the Koreans decided to put their best players against the LET, not the Japanese. It worked out well, but if I were them, I would have wanted Bo Mee facing down a Japanese player for sure. The Japanese spent all season watching Lee run rings around them; I'm betting that would have been an intimidating sight for any JLPGA player. If you're going to go down, go down sending your best against the Japanese and see what happens? Well, Monday morning quarterbacking is easy, and their strategy still nearly worked. For next year, I would suggest the following change. The Koreans and Japanese only faced each other five times all week; Japan's margin was 3-2. Instead, why not have the two top teams in the first two days go head to head in ALL the singles matches, and ditto the bottom two teams? It was frustrating watching some Aussie who had little incentive to play hard hand a match to the Japanese, knowing it would cost the Koreans dearly. Anyway, great job by all the ladies. I'm looking forward to this event next year! PS- the commentators kept moaning about how, if the Aussies had their whole squad there, it would have been different (Minjee and Karrie specifically, although where was Su Hyun Oh come to think?). AS IF the Koreans had their full squad! Come on, talk sense!
