Ina just put a tee shot into the water so that's pretty much the end of her big run. But Soomin Oh keeps going deep: now 8 under on the day and in the top ten.

Hee Jeong Lim made birdie on seventeen to get to plus one.
Hit her approach to within eight feet on par five eighteen for birdie.
Missed the birdie and to add insult to injury missed the one-foot par putt.
It's going to be mentally tough, but I think she will figure it out.

Ina went from five under on her front nine to 2 over on the back. She's at 1 under, but I think the cut will be 2 under, so she has to birdie the final hole. She's on the green about 14 feet away. She's been missing these putts the last few holes, but it's make this or go home. We'll see if she can do it! Hwaiting!

Soo Min Oh shot a 63 (!) and is two out of the lead. So Yi Jeong (who?) also shot a 63 and is tied for the lead.

Bummer of a week for Ina. Her birdie try stopped one roll short of falling in (of course it did). She struggled a lot on the back nine yesterday, too. It feels like she didn't play badly enough to miss the cut, but I'm about 90% sure that will happen. Ah well, better luck next week!

Man, I tell you. What is going on with Min Byeol? She was playing great, making birdies, moved into the top ten, then... Suddenly she could not buy a putt, on a course where everyone and her aunt was shooting in the 60s. Five bogies in her final six holes. On the 13th and 15th she missed 2 foot par saves. On the 16th, she three-putted from 30 feet. 4 foot par miss on 17. Only on 18 was her long game responsible for the bogey.
This is becoming a nightmare for her. I sure hope she can sort it out at some point, but it feels like it will have to happen over the off-season.
Meanwhile, it's quite possible that another rookie will get a win before she does. Dong Eun Lee made some crack shots, including a birdie putt from like 30 feet, and even hitting into the weeds only cost her one stroke. It will be interesting to see if she can hold herself together tomorrow. Hwaiting!

Talking about strange, Min Byeol Kim made birdie on ten, eleven and twelve to get to eight under.
Then she made bogeys on five of the last six holes to fall to three under and one over for the round.
My favorites are doing strange things on the golf course, well below their talent.

I don't really have a horse in the race now, but I guess I'll root for the rookie Dong Eun Lee. She's got a lot of interesting qualities -- long hitter, and both her parents are former golf pros (one on the KLPGA, one on the KPGA), which is the first time that has ever happened on the KLPGA. My only reluctance is that she hasn't really contended that much so it feels like she hasn't "earned" a win yet. But she certainly has some talent. [EDIT]: Although if Soomin Oh makes a run tomorrow I could get behind that (see below)! |
