... aka The Return of Alison (I'll pick it up now) Lee
********
In other news, the LPGA gave its website a big facelift ... which loads much slower than the previous version. I clicked on MHL's profile ... her news and videos stop at 2020, and then it starts showing you everyone's videos in 2020 ... I know she had older videos than this, like when she shot 62 in Arizona around 2016 ... do I have to page-through four years to find it? I looked up Cognizant Founders Cup ... they have the results for 2024 ... and they show the winners going back to 2011 ... but that's it! But, if I want to see MHL's scores from that tournament in 2016, well, it used to be there, but it's gone now. MHL's profile has tournament history going back to 2019 ... but, everything earlier is gone. Maybe the missing stuff is a work-in-progress, but don't hold your breath ... fortunately, I can rely on Japanese sources and Wikipedia for deep dives of the LPGA past. Another huge loss appears to be the Media-Press section ... I can't find it! It had history of press conferences, tee sheets, caddie lists, etc., going back to 2018. The link for Yuri's video interview in the FM Championship thread still works, but where is that section of the website now?! I'm hoping it will pop up somewhere later. The only noticeable "add" I could find was the tournament history ... you can select a year going back to 1980 and see the winners of all the defunct events.

The article on their new redesigned website about how Hero Digital have transformed and enhanced the experience scores well in buzzword bingo. Just don't play the (alcoholic) shots game and choose the word digital.
Looking forward to Solheim Cup next week but may need to turn the volume down. Chants of U-S-A always act as a trigger for Brits - I am joking (but only a little).

As a grateful American, I don't mind U-S-A chants when the event is an international competition like the Olympic games, the Solheim, or the Hanwha. But you are welcome to refer back to my comments at the end of round 4 of the CPKC a couple of months ago. As Haeran and the eventual winner Lauren Coughlin approached the 17th, the 'hockey rink' hole, I could not believe the rudeness of the U-S-A chants which were apparently coming from (drunken) Canadians.
What triggers me about the Solheim is that so many of the best golfers are excluded from competing by the fact that the competition is limited to USA and Europe. All the sisters, Jin Young, Sei Young, Haeran, etc. are excluded, as are other Asian and international golfers, Thitikul, the Jutanugarns, Hataoka, Saso, Hannah Green, Buhai and Reto, south Americans (ok, granted that sudamericanas are not likely to be competitive)
Every Solheim year I suggest a 'worldwide Solheim.' Four teams, North America, Europe, Asia, and Southern Hemisphere = Australia/Africa/SouthAmerica. Let Brooke compete, I wish that she could be part of the USA team, and she could be part of a North America team. Figure out a format for four teams. Make it a real worldwide competition!

In all seriousness I'm really looking forward to this. I can see on paper (from the rankings) Europe are massive underdogs but I do like these contests. Plenty of pre-game build up on socials. Meghan Khang is having fun in this instagram post. http://instagram.com/p/C_rIdfmN_3x

Yeah, I would have a tradition of arguing for a "Seoulheim Cup" which would allow the world to compete. I still think I'm right, as basically a large percentage of the LPGA's biggest fans could not care less about the Solheim Cup (i.e., the Asians -- you know, the people who actually care in large numbers about women's golf). They are leaving money on the table. Look at how the Olympics are treated for instance. Imagine something like that in terms of global attention for every Seoulheim Cup? Particularly galling is the fact that the LPGA kept insisting this was the biggest event in women's golf, which by definition it can't be. Especially since so many of the Majors are won by players who cannot compete in the event (there were some years where none of the Major winners were in the field). It's not even like there was an enormous tradition for this thing. The first time I argued it in 1998, the Solheim Cup was less than ten years old! Whatever. These days I just take a week off and focus on the KLPGA during the week.

I do not give a field rating for this event because of its unusual nature, but let's have a look inside the numbers:
Previous winner: There was no winner in 2022, the match goes into the record books as a tie. History: Team USA holds a 10-7-1 lead.
The players and their records in previous Solheim Cup play: Team Europe: Charley Hull 12-7-3 Leona Maguire 7-2-1 Linn Grant 3-2-0 Esther Henseleit 0-0-0 Celine Boutier 5-4-1 Maja Stark 2-1-1 Carlota Ciganda 11-8-4 Madelene Sagstrom 3-5-1 Georgia Hall 9-7-1 Anna Nordqvist 15-13-3 Emily Pedersen 5-6-1 Albane Valenzuela 0-0-0 Grand Total = 72-55-16
Team USA: Nelly Korda 7-4-1 Lilia Vu 1-3-0 Lauren Coughlin 0-0-0 Ally Ewing 3-8-1 Allisen Corpuz 2-1-1 Andrea Lee 1-2-1 Megan Khang 4-3-3 Rose Zhang 0-2-1 Alison Lee 1-3-0 Jennifer Kupcho 2-3-2 Lexi Thompson 9-7-7 Sara Schmelzel 0-0-0 Grand Total = 30-36 -17
Looking at the above numbers, this looks like a mismatch in favor of Team Europe. Team Europe's players have played in 143 previous Solheim Cup matches, while Team USA has played in just 83. Team Europe's players have won 56.7 of their previous matches, while Team USA has just won 45.5.
But wait! Not so fast. Team Europe has just one player that is ranked in the top ten of the Rolex World Rankings, and that player (Celine Boutier) just gets in at number ten. Team USA boasts both the Number one player in the world (Korda) and the Number two player in the world (Vu). They also have Rose Zhang, the Number nine player, on their roster.
So what do you favor? Team Europe's huge advantage in experience? Or do you favor Team USA's edge in the rankings?
My prediction: The home crowd is going to be a factor here and Team USA has not forgotten the huge celebration that they had to watch in 2022 even though they did not lose that match. Revenge is a great motive! Team USA will win this 15 1/2 to 12 1/2 and bring the cup back home.

Watched the Thursday festivities on GC 😴 ... what a break, Tutta sat down Maguire ... if the USA can't get 2.5 points out of 4.0 in Friday AM's foursome matches, they are chokin' freakin' dogs. 🐶
Lewis benched Team Korea ... but, they would be a really good fit in the foursomes Saturday: long baller Gimmee and bunter Andrea.

Looks like the US may go up 3-1. EKP is too good in this format. It's been a down year for the Europeans in general (as individuals) she may actually be their biggest threat. In fact, Linnea Strom (n/a) is the only European to win on tour this year. Maguire strangely wasn't picked for R1 when she has been their MVP, I think she even made Kupcho cry once.
