My field rating for this event is a super 80%, way up from 68.5% last year. I guess paying for the players hotel has really made this a must to play event
Nine of the top ten players in the world will be teeing it up this week. Lilia Vu (injury) is the only player missing.
The Monday local qualifiers this week are:
Lauren Peter (USA) -5
Yealimi Noh (USA) -4
It was an unusually strong field trying to qualify for this event, with the following notables among the players NOT qualifying:
Sophie Schubert (USA) -4 (lost playoff), Mao Saigo (JPN) -3, Jennifer Song (USA), -2, Jeongeun Lee5 (KOR) -2, So Mi Lee (KOR), -1, Ilhee Lee (KOR) -1, Lucy Li (USA) -1, Muni He (CHN) +2, Soo Bin Joo(KOR) +2.
Other Stuff:
How unusual was the final result at the Cognizant Founders Cup? Third place finisher Gabriela Ruffles was closer to the players who finished in 64th place, then she was to the player who finished in second place.
Chanettee Wannasaen missed the cut and had her cuts made streak snapped at seventeen straight.
Nelly Korda's seventh place finish was her 6th top ten of the year which leads the tour. Brooke Henderson is next with five.
In one of the closest races in a very long time, Gabriela Ruffles retakes the lead for the Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year with 276 points. She is followed by Jin Hee Im (254), Mao Saigo (185), Mone Inami (149), and Austin Kim (135).
USA players continue to dominate this year, as Rose Zhang's victory was the seventh for an American player this year in just eleven tournaments. They also have three second place finishes.
There was plenty of movement in the Rolex Rankings this week by LPGA players worth reporting:
Nelly Korda continues to widen her huge first place lead, as she is at the top for an eighth consecutive week and 45th week overall.
Rose Zhang makes one of the most important moves of the year, leaping from No.22 to No.6. This pretty much assures her a spot on the Olympic team this year where she has to finish in the top fifteen.
Madelene Sagstrom catapults from 62 to 34.
Anna Nordqvist climbs from 61 to 55.
Gabriela Ruffles vaults from 83 to 59.
Peiyun Chien advances from 117 to 86.
Pajaree Anannarukarn Improves from 106 to 91.
Wichanee Meechai climbs from 210 to 152.
Nataliya Guseva hurdles from 192 to 156
Mariajo Uribe surges from 227 to 173
Ruixin Liu powers her way up from 256 to 208.
On a down note, Lydia Ko falls out of the top ten, falling from 10 to 12.
Tony, thanks again. I don't write often enough that your field ratings and additional info are always informative, useful, and interesting.
As many of you may have noticed, 'Haney' (me, not the real Haney) is frequently promoting one time winners Alexa Pano and Chanettee Wannasaen as 'new kids in town' in an attempted counterpoint to (now) two time winner Rose Zhang, the media-anointed 'new kid.' But even I was surprised to read your comment that CW had made seventeen straight cuts! Maybe she is not quite the 'poseur' or 'one-hit wonder' as she has been portrayed? Or maybe she is CME #72 for a reason...
