Go Yewon! She may the best shot of all the sisters currently on the bubble to nab the 3rd Olympics spot! (Assuming she plays in some majors too)
Hyosong looks better without the glasses.
Q - why do the Korean amateurs not wear any sponsors ? I don't believe Minsol Kim was rocking any of her "We've" apparel at the first event of the year despite being heavily promoted by Doosan. I'm sure the sponsors are piling up at her doorstep (Hyosong)

I'm sure the sponsors are piling up at her doorstep (Hyosong) I'm always surprised that amateurs are allowed to have ANY sponsors. They are amateurs, after all. But my guess is that the rules have been softened to allow sponsors provided the kids don't wear their logos in competition. The logos they do have are the sponsors of the Korean amateur team; for instance, they have a clothing sponsor. Which brings up its own interesting questions, such as, what if an amateur has a clothing sponsor that's different than the team's sponsor? I also guess that they probably get a reduced contract as amateurs than they would as pros. But why not make SOME money, as well as line them up for when you turn pro?

Stumbled across this. I can't read a lick of Japanese, but I did notice Hyo Song Lee in the coverage. She shows up for instance about a minute and a half in (wearing red pants):

The un-PC Japanese golf media discovered Yeah, Lee Won yesterday ... here is the Google mush headline of the above article:
The 21-year-old "Assassin" who ranks first in the prize money ranking from South Korea and is participating in his first time on the Japan Tour is in second place with a difference of two strokes.
More excerpts:
She had experience playing in Japan when she was an amateur, and she came to Japan on a private trip last winter, but she qualified for the top 50 in the world rankings at the end of the previous year and participated in her first Japan tour. . She explains her reason for doing so, saying, ``I wanted to see what she was capable of, and I had heard from many people that a Japan tour would be great, so I decided to give it a try this time.''
He won the Korean championship in March this season, and is currently ranked 35th in the world. She also plans to make her first major appearance in July at the ``Amundi Her Evian Championship''.
NOOOOOOOOOO!!! She's skipping Lancaster if this is correct.
*******
No empty seats in the bleachers at 7AM when the first Friday group started at #1 ... that's probably Commish Kobayashi sitting behind the 'W' ... Hyosong Lee (in red) is on far left ... played the front nine at one-under, now +2 overall. Early starters Sakuma and Kawasaki are only making pars, so no one is running away from Yeah, Lee Won.

Hyo Song Lee had a bogey free 3-under 69 to move to even and inside the top 20. Nice way to recover from the terrible start. Jiyai Shin had a 70 to move into a tie with Yewon in second. Meanwhile, the afternoon action has started; Min Byeol has had a birdie and bogey. I figure she needs at least a 70 today to make the cut. Hwaiting!

Doesn't seem to be Min Byeol's week... one over after ten. Come on, kid, dig deep! You can do it! Yewon is 6 under now and in the lead.

I got up early for the NTV News 24 streams, but all they did was re-loop Japan's weather report. I'll try it again for Sunday. I still think the regular NTV link I posted earlier will work on the weekend. You can also try a rogue YT video with this search string:

The cut was +4 and 65 players made it. Reika Usui was a DQ after 15 holes, haven't found the reason yet.

Min Byeol has been by and large mediocre this year but this is still her first missed cut. It's especially a pity coming off her best score of the year last week. The cut was at +4 and she was at that level for a while, but even if she had made the cut it probably wasn't destined to be a very good week for her. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Hyo Song Lee was great today, shooting a 69 to move up to even par and t-16th. Interestingly, her amateur rival Min Sol Kim is tied for 15th in Korea after the opening round, so they are neck and neck in how they are doing in their respective fields. Yewon -5, Jiyai -3, and Seon Woo Bae also at 5 under. Su Ji had a mediocre second round and is at +2. Hwaiting!

There are a bunch of these, I won't post them all. Here's another which moved Yewon at the time to 6 under:

Shin Ae fell all the way to +7 and looked on her way to joining Min Byeol in the parking lot; then she made birdies on 15, 16 and 18 to make the cut on the number. Probably not the way she drew it up this morning before the round, but a made cut is a made cut!
