Hyo Joo is the golfer's golfer. If you can't appreciate her then probably you don't actually like golf IMO.

Hyo Joo doesn't hit it long, she isn't the least bit flashy, but you can't help be impressed by the quality of her play and the no-fuss way she goes about her job. She had a couple of dicey up and downs yesterday that she put within a foot of the hole like it was no big deal at all. Does her sheepish wave to the crowd, taps in, and walks to the next tee.
Hyo Joo has the talent to be one of the greats. Will she finally have that multi-win season that elevates her into the LPGA elite? Good luck to her today! Hwaiting!

I thought the board might enjoy a few thoughts from someone who was there.
1. Th event appeared to be well organized and well attended. The parking lot was full and the shuttle busses were abundant. I haven't read the attendance figures, and the Sunday rain will effect that, but for a hastily organized event the LPGA should be pleased.
2. The course is a nice club course, not a championship course. The LPGA moved 2 great events a couple of years ago. The Founders Cup here in Phoenix and the Dinah Shore in Palm Springs. They did it for money. Phoenix is a great golf town and to the LPGA's credit they are trying to establish a new event here. They have a great sponsor in Ford and a great organizing team in The Thunderbirds. But they need a great venue. Even the Epson Tour plays at TPC Scottsdale. There is Greyhawk which hosted the last 3 NCAA Championships and Phoenix Country Club which hosts the Charles Schwab. I suspect this is a one and done event and will move to a better venue next year. I'd chose Greyhawk, but there are other options.
3. 9 of the top 10 players in the world were there. If you love golf and missed watching Lydia or Nellie or Celine or Hyo Joo you missed some amazing athletes. I followed IK for a few holes and was impressed. She was paired with Georgia Hall. Driving distances were pretty comparable and in the few holes I watched I thought IK's short game might be better. I hope she comes back on the tour, her game seems strong enough.
4. I'll preach a bit from my soap box. There is a lot of LPGA trashing on this forum. But So Yeon, and many Korean golfers, are huge supporters of the LPGA. Mike Whan called So Yeon the face of the LPGA. The LPGA provides opportunities, around the world, for young women to play golf. The LPGA has been the vehicle for people like In Gee, So Yeon and others to retire multi-millionaires. The Seri Pak Tournament is an LPGA event played in the USA, not in Korea. It's not perfect, but w/o the LPGA women's golf would not be what it is.

I just don't like the way that Korean players are ignored since Mike Whan left. The LPGA didn't make the Golfers the golfers made the LPGA. Before a lot of these golfers played on the LPGA it was mostly on tape delay or not shown at all. I went to the Jamie Far classic in Toledo that, So Yeon won and found out later it was not televised. I have been a fan of the LPGA, even before Se Ri Pak or Julie Inkster came along. I went to their Tournaments in Toledo Ohio, Grand Rapids Mi, several Tournaments in California. Of course, all the Tournaments played here except this year. How the LPGA function now is not beyond criticizing.

Despite her occasional invisibility, Mollie is doing alright by me ... 3 to 4 events in my backyard every year.🤣

Some day we'll get a tournament where a Korean has at least a chance to win coming into the final few holes. Sigh.
Hyo Joo did what she often does: got into contention, then did nothing on Sunday, notching a top ten but having no chance to win. Mi Hyang had an excellent week and exceeded expectations, but still wasn't really capable of catching Korda.
And that is that. Thank goodness the KLPGA is starting next week.

I watched the last hour of the GC broadcast on Sunday ... near the end they showed and talked about MHL (they had no choice) ... I heard a reference in passing from G. Boone to "South Carolina" ... dude, she hasn't lived there in years. Did I hear him wrong? They're starting a replay now ... maybe they showed her more than once.
She is far from being The SSQ this year, but who cares ... MHL is projected to move up to #9 on CME ... meaning, NO qualifying required for the USWO. 🥳

Good Tournament for the Monday Qualified, oops kidding I meant the clutch cut maker. Mi Hyang Lee moved up from tied for just making the cut to a top five. A belated shout out

I made a week-end trip down to Portland OR to watch some of the NCAA Women's Basketball tournament so I wasn't able to see much of this tournament. A little of the first two rounds, nothing yesterday and the end today. And the end was set earlier because the LPGA has the magic touch of bringing rain even to Arizona.
Nelly is certainly the cream of the LPGA crop. Third win in a row for her.
Until today I had never heard of Hira Naveed.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but has the LPGA ever played on a course with an island green?

Joker wilted in the wind at Pebble and now this. Ditch the sunglasses and get a flat billed cap. Try something different.

The eighteen team coast to coast Big Ten conference welcomes you (and UCLA and Washington and Oregon.)
Did you see that the first five games at the Portland site were played with a mismarked three point line? It was a different distance at one end of the court from the other! I will definitely cheer for USC vs UConn in the next game. But can anyone beat South Carolina, LSU, or Caitlin Clark?

I had not heard of her before this weekend, so that makes two of us. Probably many others on this board would agree? Her name made me think that she was Mideastern, but she's from Australia, I believe. She went to Pepperdine University, graduated in 2019. That's all I know about her, other than she would have won the Ford on Sunday had Nelly Korda not been unstoppable for the third tournament in a row...

Bummer that USC lost to UConn, I was cheering so hard for USC.
And now we know that LSU could be beaten, Caitlin Clark did it! Inviting all the USC (and UCLA) supporters to cheer for Iowa in the Final Four. That's your new conference now, Big Ten. We welcome you!
