Remember when they canceled the Korean qualifier because they weren't getting enough stars to attend, but kept the Japanese one? So, what do you think? Did the Japanese qualifier get five legit stars? I don't know enough about that tour to know if these are scrubs or top talent.

Did the Japanese qualifier get five legit stars? I don't know enough about that tour to know if these are scrubs or top talent. All four have wins on Japan's big tour ... if Kimura wins her playoff Tuesday, then it will five big tour winners. Remember when Tsai was tough as hell in Taiwan against some top KLPGAers a few years back? She also qualified for Bedminster in 2017. Fujita is long in the tooth, so I don't expect her to make the cut. She got invite to the WBO a couple of years ago and got crushed, although this course will be quite different. Queen Shiho was about the same age in 2015 and had the lead on the weekend, I think, but she was a much more accomplished version of Fujita.

Five-for-five in JLPGA big tour winners advancing to USWO ... Ayako Kimura (right) needed two more playoff holes to knock off 1st alternate Hibiki Iriya(a) ... who also received a low am medal, I guess.

If only the USGA would invite Min Sol Kim. She's third in the world in amateur golf. I would love to see her take on the Open and see how she does.

Andee Avery(a) (NOT related to The Tigress at USC) is completing her first year at Long Beach State ... tied for first at -2 after Round One at Soboba Springs ... has only three postings and 1,485 followers on IG, but that's gonna change real quick.
Stanford opened with a 74 ... will need some magic in the afternoon ... or will send a registered letter to Mike Whan later.
Ugh, Shepherd is well on her way to bombing out. Btw, there are two spots and two alternates to be filled.

They're still out there at Soboba Springs ... most players are posting their scores after every hole, but some players wait until they're finished after playing 18 ... so it's a guessing game on who will qualify.
Dumb azz me, I was wondering about this mystery Taiwan player in the lead, Hsin Yu Lu ... then it hit me, Teresa Lu! Nobody knows her by her real name, she should have said Teresa Lu in her application. She was at Lancaster the first time, but I can't recall seeing her, unless it's in my notes ... finished T-35. I remember seeing her walk to the UMCC range with a bucket of balls back in the Stone Age.
Mariel Galdiano is making a big push in her PM round, now in second place ... I saw her play a practice round with The ECP nine years ago. ... was T-42 in 2015.
Long Beach Avery is falling by the wayside in the PM, too bad. Forget Stanford (74-74) ... until later. Lefty Canuck Megan Osland (not sure if I ever saw her before) is in the clubhouse at +1 ... successfully qualified in 2019 and 2021.
Growing The Game Score Department: Shepherd and Hollis played 27 holes, said eff this s**t, and walked off the golf course.

Soboba Springs Golf Course, San Jacinto, Calif.
Pos. Player To Par R1 R2 Total Details 1 Hsin Yu Teresa Lu Chinese Taipei -4 71 69 140 2 Mariel Galdiano Pearl City, HI -2 75 67 142
Failed to Qualify Emily Song (a) Irvine, CA -2 7 270 142 Alternate 1 Samantha Wagner Windermere, FL +1 75 70 145 Alternate 2
This is the 6th time Galdiano has qualified for the USWO (2011, 13, 15, 17, 22 and 24), which might be some kind of "modern day" record (during the era of mass exemptions) ... confirming this would be the homework assignment I would give to the USGA intern (they really do have interns).
Galdiano didn't post anything new on her IG ... Teresa Lu's IG is private.

Two ams I never heard of before are tearing it up for the two open spots in Virginia. Ruixin Liu is in the hunt and so is Jean Reynolds who must be pushing 40+ these days.

I was almost right ... Jean Reynolds is 39 on the Epson website. Expect some stories to come out about her in the next few weeks ... in case you don't recall, she was among the leaders at Saucon Valley in 2009, before finishing T-17 ... spent most of her career on the Epson Tour (I watched her play at Raven's Claw in 2018) ... hit rock-bottom in 2021 with 18 starts, 13 trunk slams and about $5,000 in earnings ... disappeared after that ... maybe she "got on with her life's work" (Chuck Noll's throwaway line to Terry Bradshaw).

Eun Hee Ji no longer entered at Soule Park qualifier tomorrow.
I was practicing today and a bunch of USC Trojan girls rolled up to the range, with entourage. Too much swag for me, I had to bail.

Was practicing today at my local (Soule Park, Ojai CA) when Yuri Yoshida rolled up to the range with her caddie. I don't know of her, just caught a glimpse of her bag. I'll try to check out qualifying on 4/29. Yuri's homework is paying off ... leads at -6 thru 17 holes. Can't be a tough setup when Muni is -4 thru 14 and J. Song is -4 thru 11.
