Not sure if it makes sense to have a thread for each event on the WPGA or just have a global one for the season, but except for maybe the Vic Open, there aren't a lot of important individual events there, so for now let's try this. Last week was supposed to be the Melbourne International but flooding canceled that. Or... did it? OK, they couldn't play the event, so what they did instead was set up a skills competition for 55 players who wanted to play. And one of those players was Ina Yoon! The contest involved stuff like closest-to-the-pin irons, tricky chip shots, long driving (which Ina didn't win; probably hit hers off line, as the winning drive was 262 meters, well within her wheelhouse). Ina finished 6th (technically tied for 5th). Here is a link to the summary

This week's event is The Webex Players Series Murray RiverThis is one of those events that pits men vs. women from different tees. As you can see from the link, Ina is not in the field this week, but there are a couple of Korean names, including former KLPGA player and Lydia Ko rival Jeongmin 'Cecilia' Cho. The four round event runs Jan. 18 - 21.

Kiwi male player Kozuma Kobori won this event. The interesting bit of news is that solo second was achieved by Shannon Tan, a Singaporean who turned pro just this week and shot a final round 65. Sounds like she might be someone to watch. I don't recall any other golfers from Singapore on tour. Webex Players Murray RiverCecilia Cho finished t-34th. Ina did not play this week.

Shannon Tan sounds familiar. Did she play for a US college? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. I'd have to search.

This coming week is another Webex men vs. women event, and Ina is not in that field (although Min A Yoon is; similar name, no relation). However, the field has been posted for the Vic Open, a former LPGA event where Jiyai Shin is the defending champion. This is the event after next. Vic Open fieldBesides Jiyai, the field includes: Ina Yoon Hanee Song (from New Zealand) Il Hee Lee (tournament invite) Jennifer Chang Cecilia Cho Karrie Webb Min A Yoon Su Oh Wei Wei Zhang

Every moron here must realize that one LPGA player deserves to win tournament after tournament after tournament.

Jenny had a rocking start! I suspect she'll never lose that Aussie accent now... https://www.instagram.com/p/C3EalXOv68N Currently she's the only gal in the top ten, and she's tied for the lead! Ashley Lau, winner of the Vic Open, is second at 4 under, tied for 14th at the moment.

Article about Jenny's round includes a mention of her boyfriend (!) who is her caddie this week. She didn't even realize it was a mixed-gender event until she got to the course for practice, then thought to herself, hmm, I guess I'm going to have to try harder than I thought. Mission accomplished! Min A Yoon and Cecilia Cho both shot +1 and are in danger of missing the cut, which currently sits at -2.

Mission accomplished! With her personality she seems well suited to the GT mixed event later on in 2024. Let's hope she retains focus for the whole tournament and can win. Has a tendency to fall away in round 4 as from memory she was well placed in one of the US majors last year.

There's a lot of golf left to play and she's unlikely to shoot back-to-back low scores, but hopefully she can just stay in touch with the lead and get the win come Sunday.
Also, the guy who won the first two Webex events shot a 65, so he's right there trying to make it three straight. Could be interesting. And Lau, who has been low woman the past two weeks (including the win at Vic Open) is not far behind, either.

Most of these Australian guys don't know how to deal with a real woman.

Jenny's keeping it up, 5 under at the turn and 14 under total. This course is playing super easy, though, and there are a bunch of guys just a shot or two behind her.
Go Jenny go!
