My field rating for this event is an extremly poor 31.5%. This tournament was last played in 2019 when my field rating was 64%. This is the third consecutive tournament where very few of the top players have shown up. My breakdown is 33% from the LPGA Priority List and 30% from the Rolex Rankings. The field will be led by top ten players: Lilia Vu - #1 Ruoning Yin - #2 Minjee Lee - #7 Xiyu Lin - #9 Top ten players skipping the event this week: Jin Young Ko - #3 Nelly Korda #4 Celine Boutier - #5 Hyo Joo Kim - #6 Charley Hull - #8 Allisen Corpuz - #10 Just seven of the top 25 players from this week's Rolex Rankings will be teeing it up.
Other Stuff: Hyo Joo Kim's victory this past weekend was the fourth this year by a Korean player, moving them into second place. The USA leads with eight wins. Atthaya Thitikul's top ten finish was her 10th of the year, which leads the LPGA. Hyo Joo Kim earned her 9th top ten of the year.
There was no movement worth reporting in this week's Rolex Rankings. The horrific field rating for last week's event carried very little weight, and there were no LPGA players who moved more than three places.
In the very important Race to the CME Globe, where finishing in the top 100 is imperative if you want full time status in 2024: Bianca Pagdanganan wrapped up a spot by leaping from No. 89 to No. 48. Lexi Thompson appears to have wrapped up a spot also with a move from 114 to 82. Frieda Kinholt greatly improved her chances jumping from 103 to 89. Wei-Ling Hsu sneaks into the top 100 moving 109 to 100. The following players dropped out of the top 100 at a very inoportune time: Kelly Tan 98 to 102, Maddie Szeryk 100-103, Jeongeun Lee5 99 to 104
With the completion of the Epson tour schedule, the following players earned fulltime LPGA status for 2024: Gabriela Ruffles - Australia Natasha Andrea Oon - Malaysia Auston Kim - USA Jiwon Jeon - South Korea Minjee Kang - South Korea Agatha Laisne - France Jenny Coleman - USA Roberta Liti - Italy Isabella Fiero - Mexico Kristen Gillman - USA

I'm surprised Xiang Sui is still playing. I figured after she bombed out of the KLPGA system, she'd marry some young rich tycoon and retire. ************** KT got into this 81-player event based on her CME points. As an ethnic Chinese, she's feeling at home on her first trip to Shanghai. The new top Malaysian player is Natasha Oon, who came in second on the Epson Tour money list, just $10K behind the leader, Gaby Ruffles. We'll see how she does when the tour gets to Malaysia, as Natasha is a sponsor's invitee. Regardless, Kelly retains her title as the EMP for all time, the player who started the Malaysian wave and was key in bringing an LPGA event back to the sked. She's like the Se Ri Pak of Malaysia...without all the wins. https://www.instagram.com/p/CyO3EL3SRgG

Whan & the LPGA should support Laetitia Beck. She is super hot & as tall as Dumbo.

Well, we get all the 'benefits' of Asian tournaments this week, including Aussie announcers for the English language broadcast on GC... At least they're showing Lilia "I love you" Vu. Too bad that they showed her three-putting...

I would post a Round One pic of MHL, but there aren't any.
*******
Anyone left still pleading poverty about being an LPGA player? Talley can be DFL, goof off, get paid and lose only one position on the CME standings.

Round 1
Only five Koreans in the field. A Lim had a nice start, 4 under, just two back and tied for third. She's had a lot of trouble with consistency, though. Perhaps this can be her breakthrough week much like Hae Ran two weeks ago? She hasn't won since joining the tour. Good luck to her!
Mi Hyang 3 back. Hye Jin was 2 under for a while but ended up even, while Hae Ran at +2 is the worst among the Sisters. That leaves Sei Young, -1. It feels like she is more likely to contend than A Lim despite the slow start.
Hwaiting!

They said on the Broadcast that Hye Jin Choi has only one top ten this year. That is a surprising

That is surprising. I looked her up: she does have 7 top 20s besides the top ten at the Meijer. And only one missed cut. But yeah, a lot worse than last year. I think she's dealing with injuries, but it's still shocking.

Honestly, not a whole lot to look at so far. As HF pointed out, only five sisters in the field. Now only four after Sei Young WD. Hope that she is not injured badly. Not a lot of cameras so they are following only a few groups. Some golfers having good rounds and moving up the leaderboard but not being shown. Harigae, Hye-Jin, Lilia "I love you." Even Rose not being shown at minus-4 on the round after 11! What's with these Aussie broadcasters? Don't they know about the Rose Zhang phenomenon? Aza looking good but I only saw her once on the broadcast at this point.
Patty T, you could play yourself into the CME against this weak field, but you're just treading water... And four of your countrywomen in the top ten at this point. (Meechai, Yoktuan, Moriya, and Suwannapura.) Don't ever count out the Thais!
"Par five, that's a pure putting stroke, well done!" The words of the Aussie announcer describing A Lim on the 9th(?) But he never said her name aloud! Only the graphic showed who it was.
Normally I don't mind the time slot of Asian tournaments because I'm a night owl. But I have to admit that last night (Wed night or Thu am) I fell asleep on the sofa and woke up at 5 am to drag myself to bed... Gotta work early on Friday morning so that better not happen tonight...

No caddie list is posted, so I don't know if she brought Sir Nick with her.

Round 2 Didn't watch today, but it looks like there were some good rounds by the Sisters. A Lim had a 70 and is four back. I doubt she will get any air time tomorrow, so I probably will skip then, too. More encouraging was Hye Jin producing a 5 under 67 (no bogies). She's just a shot out of the top ten and five behind 'the Swedish superstar'. After learning how few top tens she's had, I really hope she at least gets one of those this week. But hey, she's only five back, she could still win this and join Hae Ran as a tour winner. Still hoping she can do it this year. Speaking of Hae Ran, she also had a nice day two, an identical 5 under 67 - five birdies, no bogies. But, she's a t-30 and seven back, so she has a much harder road to get back into this. Mi Hyang is hanging around at 5 under as well; let's see if she can make a moving day move. Sisters hwaiting!
