MHL must be feeling safe these days ... will skip this one even though it is in her U.S. backyard ... still in the fields for the Asian swing.
I assume they ran out of daylight to determine the second Monday qualifier:
Pos Player Name Nat. Par Score 1 Katherine Muzi (USA) USA -2 69 2 Sadena Parks (USA) USA -1 70 2 Antonia Malate (USA) USA -1 70 2 Brigitte Thibault (CAN) CAN -1 70

My field rating for this tournament is a very poor 34%, down from 61% last year. My breakdown is 40% from the LPGA Priority list and 28% from the Rolex Rankings. The field will be led by top ten players: Celine Boutier Hyo Joo Kim Charley Hull Top ten players skipping the event: Lilia Vu Ruoning Yin Jin Young Ko Nelly Korda Minjee Lee Allisen Corpuz Lydia Ko The Monday Qualifiers are: Katherine Muzi -2 Sadena Parks -1
Other Stuff: Hae Ran Ryu's victory this past weekend was the third for a Korean player this year, tying France and Australia for second place. United States players lead with 8 wins. Ryu's Victory was the first by a Korean player other than Jin Young Ko since June of 2022 when In Gee Chun was victorious. Ryu was also the 11th first time winner on the LPGA tour this year, tying the all time record that was set last year.
Hyo Joo Kim and Minjee Lee are the only LPGA to not miss a cut this year.
Due to the weak playing field last week, there was very little movement in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players, as only one player moved up more than four spots. That player was Hae Ran Ryu who jumped from 37 to 28. Outside of the top 100, Linnea Strom jumped up from 179 to 130.
In the very important Race to the CME Globe, where players must finish in the top 100 to play most tournaments in 2024, the following players wrapped up a spot: Yuna Nishimura 81 to 61 Sarah Schmelzel 74-67 The following players may still have some work to do but greatly improved their chances: Jeongeun Lee6 91 to 82 Bianca Pagdanganan 129 to 89 Karis Davidon 100 to 97 Jeongeun Lee5 109 to 99 The following players are still on the outside looking in, but have a much better chance: Pornanong Phatlum 121 to 108 Muni He 123 to 110 Xiaowen Yin 130 to 118 Yealimi Noh 146 to 120 Players that dropped out of the top 100: Emma Talley 98 to 101 Lizette Salas 99 to 102.

Quite a few top 10 players are in Hong Kong for the LET event sponsored by Saudi Arabia. One of those combined team/individual events which makes no sense to me!

JTibs has taken over the LPGA Instagram account for this week ... her current WITB ... seems to be all Callaway, except for the Vokey wedges:
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cx9G5ozLIyl I've followed her at least twice in person since 2021, but I have no notes on what she was gaming on those occasions. I recall that she posted a pic of her sticks on IG about six-plus years ago and opened it up to questions ... she was heavy with Titleist back then.
Gear head quiz: What iron make/model is she playing here? Answer below

Sadena Parks was the second qualifier to get into the field
********
Stanford was one of today's interviews ... had some interesting comments on Solheim ... also explained how she has grown to love this week's golf course:
ANGELA STANFORD: Yes. Well, the first time I played here my short game was awful. You have to kind of know, one, where the ball is going around here, and then you're going to chip a lot and have some really difficult putts. The greens have a lot of movement and that are bermuda and grainy
If your short game is not on point you're in trouble this week. Needless to say, my first few years here I had a hard time. (Smiling.)
********
Szeryk One and Two will be interviewed together on Wednesday.
********
The groups are posted ... out of respect for her past accomplishments, Old Ryu (13 CME points) is with G. Lopez and C. Knight ... Ice Cream Princess/Su Oh/J. Song ... Bianca/Six/AL Kim ... Yan Liu and P. Reto will take turns saying "you're away" to HoJo ... while HoJo is beating their brains out.

Answer: I had to look it up myself. She is playing Adams Idea Pro a12 irons. I don't remember seeing these sticks anywhere else before. Adams did not have a huge presence on the LPGA in 2012 ... Yani, Bam Bum and Lang were also playing Adams at this time, but not these particular irons.

I used to always try and hit balls next to Kat Muzi at Arroyo Trabuco. She's one of the few players that acknowledged me. I think she realized I could have been somebody.

Tuesday practice -
Yuna and Jeeno Jat
Minami Katsu ... the feather is part of the Old American Golf Club logo ...
... at first, I thought this was a clever marketing scheme by the Fourteen Golf brand ... maybe they should steal it.

While waiting for my golf outing to start, they've got the golf on TV ... Dr. Noh had a 2-foot birdie putt at #13 and missed it ... then looked at the face of her broomstick.🤣

In Gee’s out of it. Too many sixes on the par fives. Can’t see her making top 60 for CME Globe.

Round 1 Hyo Joo had a heck of a back nine today! She put together four straight birdies en route to a 64 and a two-shot lead. She plays well a lot, but is the kind of player that gets a win a year and that's it. Well, she hasn't had her win yet, so hopefully she can check that off this week! Jenny had a decent 68 and is in the top ten as well. The other notable performance came from Six, who was all over the map. At one point she had two doubles and was 4 over and heading for a cut. She made birdies on three of the next four holes, however, and wound up shooting an even par round. Can she get into the hunt tomorrow? Heck yeah she can. Or she could blow it. But I'm hoping she's got some pep in her and will go up. In Gee has been pretty average most of the year. Knowing her, she'll probably make the cut and wind up 27th. But this being not far from her house, I hope she'll be able to get local Flying Dumbos there to cheer her on. Hwaiting!

Now that Dick Butkus dropped dead in beautiful Malibu, Se Ri is my only role model.
Boys in the 8-to-10 age range back in my day had fun with the "three syllable" name of #51.
Query this site and you'll find some good stuff on him:
From 9/21/1970 cover story:
... dinner tonight is to be in the real world of Dick Butkus. John's Pizzeria in Calumet City, Ill. Wicked old Cal City, the Sodom and Gomorrah of the Lake Michigan steel belt, infamous since the early 1950s for its hookers and pushers and fabulous clip joints. Driving past the onion ranches toward Cal City, Butkus plays rock on the Caddy's stereo. "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.... " Cal City has changed. Cozy little discotheques stud the main drag, their freaked-out colored lights casting the shadows of bouffant B girls in miniskirts on the pavements. One of the old-time night clubs—boarded up now—points a telling contrast. The faded facade invites one and all to witness "All Girl Revues—Venus and Her Jungle Beast." Butkus smiles secretly when the sign is pointed out to him. Yeah, the Jungle Beast! All those lower-middle-class high school girl fantasies about being carried off by a lustful gorilla. Helen, too, is smiling.

Shoot, In Gee withdrew. Hope it's not another injury... Or should that be 'ingee-ry'?
