This dog had a TonyJ field rating of 18% in 2022 and 13% in 2023 ... will MHL dropping out get it into single digits? I guess three straight weeks in Europe (plus a Monday qualifier) wore her out ... so, no excuses about not being ready in Van City.

My field rating for this event is a dismal 8%. No that is not a typo, it is actually 8%, down from 13% last year. In the fifteen or so years that I have been doing this, this is the lowest rated field ever! My breakdown is 10% from the LPGA Priority List and 6% from the Rolex Rankings. Not a single top ten player from this week's Rolex Rankings will be teeing it up. This will give players fighting to keep their LPGA playing privileges for the 2024 season a real chance to make a splash. The field will be led by World No. 14 Leona Maguire and No. 16 Georgia Hall. You have to go all the way down to No. 63 (Yuna Nishimura) to find the next highest ranked player.
Other stuff: Lilia Vu became the first American player since Juli Inkster in 1999 to win two majors in a single season. She is also the first to do so since Jin Young Ko in 2019. Lilia Vu notched her 3rd win of the year, tying her with Celine Boutier for most wins this season. Lilia Vu takes over the top spot for player of the year this week with 154 points. Celine Boutier is second with 133. Lilia Vu has won the Rolex Annika Major Award, with Allisen Corpuz finishing in the runner-up spot. Hyo Joo Kim notched her eighth top ten of the year, tying her with Atthaya Thitikul for the top spot. Nelly Korda, who finished in 11th place, just missed joining them. Lilia Vu's victory was the 6th this year by an American player, as they try to 4-peat this year. France is in second place with three wins. The American players also won three Major Championships this year. On the Epson Tour Austraila's Gabriella Ruffles won for the third time this year. This will not automatically qualify her for LPGA membership as the LPGA changed that rule. She will have full LPGA status in 2024.
In the all important Race to CME Globe, where a top 100 finish is neccessary to retain full-time playing privileges in 2024: Jeongeun Lee6 enters the top 100 this week, jumping from 103 to 88. Andrea Lee wrapped up a spot by leaping up from 76 to 59. Emily Pederson (88 to 79) and Yuna Nishamura (85 to 76) greatly improved their chances.
As is usually the case after a major championship, there was some major movement by LPGA players in the Rolex World Rankings: Lilia Vu is the new Number one player in the world! She moves from 6 to 1. Charley Hull Jumps into the top ten this week 16 to 7. Other big jumps include: Ally Ewing 39 to 34 Amy Yang 47 to 36 Alison Lee 60 to 53 Jenny Shin 83 to 72 Ryann O'Toole 90 to 83 Jeongeun Lee6 94 to 84 Perrine Delacour 97 to 87

Mr. Admin, please move TonyJ's thread into the first folder I created for this tournament. Single digits, I called it! Also, no one in this event had the brains to invite Gaby Ruffels, but Ryan Ruffels will be playing.

Also, no one in this event had the brains to invite Gaby Ruffels, but Ryan Ruffels will be playing. But they did have the brains to not invite Laura Davies to shoot a 90; instead, they invited Rosie Davies!
And don't ever count out the Thai golfers... seems like there are more Thai golfers than ROK this week?

It will be a much higher ranked tournament if Ilhee Lee wins.

It will be a much higher ranked tournament if Ilhee Lee wins. "I'm picking Lee!" Even Lucy Li! Or maybe (Annie, Kum-Kang) Park. Seriously, Leona Maguire and Georgia "my foot hurts" Hall have to be favored. But almost anyone could have a breakout weekend against this sorry field. I don't know why something draws me to Polly Mack... you can all laugh at my prognostication if she shoots +7 on Thursday... Valery Plata has my heart though, since Lilia is not in the field, it would be great to see la espartana colombiana finally have some success in her rookie year... and imagine the excitement in Floridablanca and Bucaramanga if she or Mariajo finally has an impact on the tour for the first time sincer Mariajo won the HSBC Brazil Cup twelve years ago! And all you Bruin supporters that are constantly feuding with the Trojans ought to be supporting Mariajo too!

This dog won't hunt ... I count one LPGA win among the top-12 players after Round One. Despite TonyJ's rotten field rating, there are a number of "names" here and many of them embarrassed themselves, including the EMP (+5), C. Kim (+5), Yu Liu (+6) and J. Song (+7). It's funny to see lefty Kim Metraux tied for first, while superior sis Morgane was too disinterested to play here.
Welfare recipients Su Oh, Dr. Noh and Muni He are taking advantage of the situation.
Bianca (+2) is only one shot off the projected cut line. Prior to this week, she's been almost invisible in 2023 with just four starts ... but, she made the cut in three of them ... maybe she doesn't play lunkhead golf anymore.

Agree Phil, this is so poor. Did anyone notice that I was right about Polly Mack for the first 17 holes? Then she had a quad on 18! As for Valery Plata, let me lift some words from my previous post completely out of context... "you can all laugh at my prognostication if she shoots +7 on Thursday... Valery Plata has my heart though..." Plata did follow through with a +6, you just need to ignore that my original +7 comment referred to Mack not Plata...

I tried watching, but it's basically an LET event in all but name. Since I don't have much interest in the LET, I think I'll skip the rest.

The fact there is a men's event playing concurrently and sucking up air time lessens my interest even more.
Marissa Steen is taking advantage of the weak sauce field. She's 110 on the CME rankings so she needs to find a way to move on up.
Those LPGA players over 30 who missed the cut should take a long, cold look in the mirror.

I could enter the bottom half of the field scores into my GHIN and nothing would seem awry.

Marissa Steen is taking advantage of the weak sauce field. ... ↑↑↑↑↑ THESE. ↑↑↑↑↑ Good for Marissa if she can hold on a couple more days. There are about a half dozen or dozen others like her that will still be playing on Saturday, names that are known because they are successful enough to hang around the tour for a few years but never winning much of anything. This should be their week! Henseleit and Ryann O'Toole for example. Suwannapura would be another though she's actually had slightly more success, and I always say to never count out the Thai golfers... If there is going to be a new or barely known name this week, I'm pulling for Soo Bin of course... If she's in contention on Sunday then I'll even endure the pathetic coverage...
It's almost a mystery why Maguire and/or Hall are not dominating this field. Guess that's why they play the tournament...

As I write this a USA player has the lead and I just shut it off. The men are taking up 60% of coverage. We only get to see the same 6 females. They only show the top 6 on the scoreboard so you can't see what other players are doing, and the announcers....well I rather watch it with no volume.
