Most of the pairs have been posted (above) ... After striking out with Chella (2021) and Nomura (2022), MHL will give it a go with Unlucky Five.
The website also announced this event received an extension through 2029, which is quite long by past LPGA standards.

Other interesting pairs (these would have confounded Haney) are Yin and Yin (Ruoning and Xiaowen) and also Liu and Liu (Yu and Ruixin).
Then we have the alliterative pair, I hope that they call themselves "the R girls" or "the four Rs," Riley Rennell and Rachel Rohanna.
Lastly, the Bucaramanga/Floridablanca metro area is well represented by Mariajo Uribe and la espartana Valery Plata. Viva las colombianas! It's practically a home tournament for Valery. Only an hour and a half drive from East Lansing to Midland. Go green!

In the past three iterations of this event, they managed to scrape up 71 or 72 pairs of players ... they're a bit short at the moment with 64 pairs. They can't dip deeply into the Epson Tour since it's in action this week. Somebody get Erica Shepherd and Mia Hammond, at least we know they can make an LPGA cut. You'd think they could get a few desperate LET players to fly over from London for this one.

It doesn't get much lower than this! My field rating for this event is season low 25%, down from 34% last year. My breakdown is 31% from the LPGA Priority List and 19% from the Rolex Rankings. Only one of the top ten players, and five of the top twenty players from this week's Rolex Rankings will be teeing it up. The field will be led by the following players: Ruoning Yin (only top ten player in attendance) Brooke Henderson Celine Boutier Georgia Hall Lexi Thompson Hannah Green
The good news? The Dow Great Lakes Invitational has signed to keep the tournament through the year 2029.
Other Stuff: With last week's winner (Linn Grant) being from Sweden, we now have had winner's from 10 different countries in sixteen events this year: United States - 4 China, Korea, Australia - 2 each Canada, France, Thailand, So. Africa, Ireland, Sweden - 1 each
Linn Grant was the 6th first time winner this year. She joins: Lilia Vu, Rose Zhang, Ailisen Corpuz - all USA Ruoning Yin - China Grace Kim - Australia
There was very little movement in the top 100 of the Rolex Rankings this week by LPGA players: Nelly Korda (winner this week on the Ladies European Tour by four strokes over Charley Hull and eight over Leona Maguire) remains at No. 2, but by the slightest margin. Jin Young Ko leads her by just .002 (7.67 to 7.65). Linn Grant jumped up from 28 to 21 No other LPGA player jumped more than 3 spots. It was a different story outside the top 100, as there was some very big moves: Stephanie Kyriacou 119-109 Maria Fassi 122-110 Matilda Castren 142-131 Jaravee Boonchant 132-121 Lindy Duncan 279-189
Now that we are solidly into the second half of the season, it is time to start reporting on the movement within the Race to the CME Globe. Why is this important? It is important because a player has to finish in the top 100 to retain their full playing priviliges for the 2024 season. This week we had some important changes: Annie Park jumps into the top 100 moving from 120-97. Maria Fassi has wrapped her playing privileges for the 2024 season with her jump from 104-69. Lindy Duncan also is safe next year with her jump from 154 to 62. Marissa Steen helped herself a bit as she moves from 103 to 99. On the down side: Jeongeun Lee 6 slips out of the top 100 moving 96 to 101. Wichanee Meechai did the same 99-103. Elizabeth Szokel (98-104) and Sophie Schubert (100-106) also are now on the outside looking in.

A wake up call for Jeongeun Lee6 being outside the top one hundred. I am sure that she won't end the year that high because she is too talented.

Since the defending champions (Salas/Kupcho) blew off this event, last year's solo 2nd team of The EMP and her Maid-of-Honor got the prime interview slot.
Who wears it best? Once again Team FinnAsian will be the only team wearing matching "uniforms," with a different matching outfit each day of the event. It helps that KT and Matilda share the same clothing sponsor.

I like this tournament. Throw out a few bones and the two toughest dogs will be identified.

Would have been a great opportunity for others considering the weak field as Tony posted. Plus, Midland is a great place to concentrate on your game, what else are you going to do there? Visit Salt Well #1, www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=167986 or the Tridge, cityofmidlandmi.gov/1672/The-Tridge ? I say this as a Michigan resident, honestly, my cousin's family lives in Midland, and I spent some interesting hours there 40+ years ago as a chemical engineering student at MSU visiting Dow Chemical and Consumers Power (originally designed as a nuclear power plant then converted to a conventional power plant after the Three Mile Island 'disaster' in Pennsylvania.) Really sad that the defending champs Kupcho (my favorite American who is non-Asian-American) and Salas, whom I also admire, are skipping out on defending their championship... Shepherd and Hammond would have been great... I posted an update on Hammond from the Columbus Dispatch on the Dana Open page recently.

Henderson and Lexi working together like sand in gears.
The Jutanugarn sisters didn't even make an appearance. The "All-In" team of Suwannapura and Clanton shot a decent even par.

A T-2 start for Amelia Lewis?! Yes, this tournament is welfare, but you gotta take advantage of it ... that's what Lewis is doing after years of burning up her inheritance on the fringes of the LPGA and LET. Her partner Paula Reto decided to bring her 'A' game ... I've followed her a couple of times ... she can be really good (2016 Shoprite) or really bad (2023 Mizuho).
Unlucky Five today ... this might be the player that finally clicks with MHL at this event. Five was the original trash picker of the KLPGA ... she'd hit garbage all over the place, but would end up shooting 70, and you couldn't figure out how she did it. So Young Lee has taken over Five's "style" on the KLPGA.
Didn't find any pics of MHL, but she's in the highlight reel starting at 9:27 with a chip-in birdie at #18.

I sure wish you wouldn't bad mouth Hot 5. She's NYC's second banana. Think of Ethel Mertz, Ed Norton & George Costanza.

Haven't seen that much of Lee5 after she left the KLPGA but their games are similar. Someone gave me some advice how to not worry to much about your golf game. "Hit it, go find it and hit it again".

Henderson and Lexi working together like sand in gears. THIS. ↑↑↑↑↑ When I first checked out the scores on lpga.com late Wednesday morning, I was expecting to find superstars Brooke and Lexi near the top of the board or within striking range. More than halfway through their round, I think the only golfistas worse than them at the time were las colombianas Uribe y Plata. But at least las paraguayas Granada y Garcia tuvieron éxito... Someone had to uphold the honor of South America in the golfing world... I'll also call out Celine Boutier and Yuka Saso as a pair of quality golfers near the top of the leaders. There is something about Boutier's face, every time I see her face she has an expression of total determination. Liu and Liu also near the top; there's a pair that would get Haney's attention (I'm picking Liu!) Could Schmelzel and Lindsey W-W hold something together through Saturday? A couple of not horrible, somewhat successful golfers, but never winners. I think someone wrote before or during Bank of Hope that you can never tell what's going to happen during match play, which is true, and pairs play is "ever so much more so..." Cydney Clanton a few years ago here in the Dow for example... Lindy Duncan had a great performance last week in Toledo and maybe she and Christina can put something together. And then there's the high water mark of the sisters after round 1, Hae Ran and Yaeeun, closely followed by MHL and (maybe now Lucky) Five. Remember, pairs play is crazy like match play but "ever so much more so..." My local tv news showed about 15 seconds of coverage since Midland is only about two hours away (but two tv markets away.) I think that they would have latched on to anyone who was successful in the Meijer in our area, but neither Leona nor Jennifer are around this weekend. I thought the station would default to the 'known names' which would have been Lexi and Brooke, but apparently they were so bad today that even channel 8 could not create a meaningful narrative around them. So we got to see a few seconds of Celine Borge and Polly Mack! I guess both were at the Meijer and made the cut (although it was not stated in the tv segment.)
Last comment. I wasn't sure who the "Additional Invite Teams" were until the GC broadcast went to a commercial promoting Dow Chemical. Typical advertisement, they were showing a woman working in a research lab. Then I recognized the name, Kimberly Dinh, as one of the golfers and the ad went on to show her golfing. Kimberly Dinh works at Dow (in Midland, I'm sure) as a researcher. She is a Midland native and played golf at University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Then she went on to grad school at MIT and earned master's and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering. I believe that she won the state amateur tournament in 2021 here in Michigan. She and her partner Jasmine Ly, from Windsor, Ontario, Canada (Detroit suburb and the answer to the trivia question, "If you start in Detroit and travel directly south, what is the first foreign country that you will enter?") stand T30 at +1 after the first round. That puts them two strokes ahead of Brooke and Lexi going into Thursday! Chemical engineering research scientist Kimberly Dinh and her partner Jasmine Ly are kicking booty on Lexi and Brooke after the first round of the Dow GLBI!
