Per the individual scores, Big Ryu is cutting through this place like a 30-knot destroyer while Hong is holding on to the radio mast like a second flag.
Polly Mack (151 on CME) was fortunate to get Celine Borge, who has been sneaky good all year. Otherwise, Mack is on Skid Row ... 5th in driving distance, but the rest of her stats stink ... at least she has more logos than Lilia Vu.

T2, one shot back of Reto/Lewis. Another bogey-free round by KT, and only one bogey by Castren. That's a total of one bogey between them over the first two rounds. As proof that match play frequently ends with crazy results, and pairs play "ever so much more so," consider the fates of the top golfers who entered...
Ruoning Yin (CME #1) missed the cut along with her partner Xiaowen Yin. Brooke Henderson and Lexi Thompson finally got their 'gears engaged' to finish with three birdies in the last four holes. Too little, too late, they missed the cut. Georgia Hall missed the cut along with her partner Ryann O'Toole. Georgia may be wishing that she'd just skipped the trip to Midland to prepare for Evian instead... Hannah Green just squeaked by, and will start the weekend with partner Su Oh trailing the leaders by eleven strokes. Celine Boutier is totally in the mix with Yuka Saso. They appear to have as good a chance as any of the other pairs near the lead.
And amateur Kimberly Dinh, Ph.D. chemical engineer and Dow senior research specialist, easily cleared the cut with a minus-5 score after two rounds. She and her partner Jasmine Ly beat Brooke, Lexi, Ruoning, Georgia, and many others! Congrats to Kimberly and Jasmine.

Jumbo has no respect for her number 1 fan. Everytime I got within five feet she looked out at Carmel Bay.

Georgia didn't need this tournament, but that was irrelevant ... from personal observation, she is not "in charge." A lot of good it did Ryann, that's five straight trunk slams.
*******
uc LA Law bombed out ... I hadn't noticed that she is #147 on CME ... she was a decent player during 2019-22, what the hell happened to her? Too bad she had to play Twister this week trying to cover all the self-admitted holes in Mel Reid's game.
******
Two open spots are available for Evian and it would be incredible if one of them went to a Lewis no one has ever followed before (the "other" Lewis won't go to Evian anymore). BTW, Lewis and Reto had red tops and black bottoms on Thursday ... they must be serious. How crazy is this ... the EMP is the 62nd alternate at Evian, but now has a chance of getting mauled by Hans and Franz next week.

A lot of good it did Ryann, that's five straight trunk slams.
And six straight trunk slams for my favorite rookie, la espartana y colombiana Valery Plata. Three of the six were nearly 'home tournaments,' Meijer, Dana, and now Dow, all within two hours of East Lansing. She and Uribe were never in it, trailing even the abysmal 'performance' of the 'great' Lexi and Brooke. Only remaining question for Valery was should she return to MSU from Midland straight south past Chesaning and/or Owosso to I-69 west (shorter distance) or head south and west to Alma then take US 127 south (faster time, that's the way that I always used to go.) I hope that she invited Mariajo to visit MSU since they won't be golfing this weekend. It's a beautiful campus!
Also sad, and I mean this sincerely, that Brooke had so little success in Michigan and Toledo (which I pointed out in another thread was nearly part of Michigan). Two trunk slams (Dana, Dow) and T42 at the Meijer. She is quite popular in the state, probably the only state in US where she is more popular then Lexi...

Solo 2nd. Where have I seen this before? Final round. Final pairing. Hans & Franz are getting très old. They'll be no match for bodyguard Dusty. Congratulations to Cheyenne Knight and first-time winner and Chicago native Elizabeth Szokol on their victory in the 2023 Dow GLBI.

A final round 63, two shots better than Knight/Szokol's 65. It all came down to the last putt on 18. An exciting day and another solo 2nd. *********** KT: "Unfortunately we fell a shot shy. It's been overall a really fun week. Right now it sucks. You know, when I wake up tomorrow morning I will cherish every moment that we've been through the last few days. I can only choose to take in the positives." Never give up! Remember second place in a tournament in a small town in Michigan, two consecutive years. Can you say the name? LEONA MAGUIRE. She was second place in the Meijer LPGA in 2021 and 2022. Don't ever give up! Leona was the champion in 2023. All of us who live in the Grand Rapids area and southwestern Michigan will never forget Leona. We are loyal to our favorites. KT and Matilda were second place in a tournament in a small town in Michigan in 2022 and 2023, in Midland in the Dow GLBI. Who will be the champions in 2024? Don't ever give up!

MHL shored up her CME ranking, now at #92. Looking forward to her return to Evian where she has only one career trunk slam. She'll also play Scotland and NIR. She is not in the field for Weetabix, but I assume she'll enter the Aug. 7 qualifier.
