The outflow of dropouts seems to have dried up now ... Gina Kim has been the 1st alternate for about three days in a row. Yaeeun Hong and Muni are the sponsor invitees. They'll get a break with the weather ... Accuweather says it be only 96F on Wednesday and go down to low 90s later in week.
In other other news ....
* Shibuno Fever will be in Japan for a while ... just finished washing out of Bridgestone Lades ... played with wrap around left hand, don't know why ... next up is the Ai Miyazato Suntory (June 8-11) ... strangely, she is NOT in the field for KPMG, but maybe that will change later.
* I forgot that Mizuho had only 120 pros, so MHL is the Monday qualifier (her last one, I hope).
* Meaghan Francella is a sponsor invite at Shoprite/Acer for the second straight year.
* While I write this, SBS Golf is running on another tab with LIVE coverage of the PGA Championship ... I guess they don't have a seven-second delay because Jordan Spieth dropped two profanity bombs after a bad shot ... fortunately, Koreans don't understand English.

I'd rather watch Yaeeun Hong put on her spikes in the parking lot than bother with the others.

I will volunteer as the oldest standard bearer in golf history. It's an easy walk
The Old Goofball is too late ... per the tourney website, Volunteer Registration has closed. I looked up the 2022 match play in Getty Images ... 642 pics and I didn't see one standard bearer or spectator at this "Westworld" golf course in the desert. If you're in the East next month, check Shoprite/Acer to see if they need someone to man the clipboard at the drive measuring holes ... you have to be 75+ to get that assignment.

You can laugh at me now, but I'll hear from Whan if Georgia & Ryann are the final group on Sunday at Pebble.

My field rating for this event is very poor 45.5%, down from 49.5% last year. My breakdown is 51% from the LPGA Priority List and 40% from the Rolex Rankings.
The field will be led by the following top 25 players: #4 - Lilia Vu #8 - Brooke Henderson #11 - Celine Boutier #13 - Xi Yu Lin #17 - Danielle Kang #18 - Ayaka Furue #19 - Leona Maguire #22 - Linn Grant #25 - Allisen Corpuz
Players not teeing it up are too many to list, but top ten players skipping the event are: Jin Young Ko Nelly Korda Lydia Ko Minjee Lee Atthaya Thitikul Lexi Thompson Georgia Hall Hyo Joo Kim
The sponsor invitees for this event are: Muni He Yaeeun Hong
Other Stuff: Jin Young Ko's win this past week was the fourth consecutive LPGA tournament to be decided in a playoff. It was also the 5th in the last six to be decided that way. Jin Young's win was the second this season for a player from the Republic of Korea, tying them with the USA and Australia. Jin Young Ko, Atthaya Thitikul, and Georgia Hall, all picked up their 5th top tens of the year. Nelly Korda leads the tour with six.
There was plenty of movement in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA members since the last LPGA tournament was played 2 weeks ago: Although neither player saw any action this past week, Jin Young Ko takes over the No. 1 spot by the smallest possible margin (8.26 to 8.25) over Nelly Korda. With neither player playing in this week's event, it could change again. Minjee Lee enters the top five moving 6-5. Ashleigh Buhai moves 20-16. Linn Grant 26-22 Carlotta Ciganda 46-32 Hae Ran Ryu 45-35 Angel Yin 47-42 Yuna Nishimura 53-49 Aditi Ashok 64-51 Grace Kim 85-80 On the downside both Eun-Hee Ji (48-54), and Amy Yang (50-57) have dropped out of the top 50. Outside the top 100: Morgane Metraux 139-120 Sarah Kemp 165-134 Longtime LPGA Superstar and Hall-of-famer Inbee Park, drops out of the top 100 (and out of my field rating) this week.

Unfortunately, A Lim Kim and Hae Ran Ryu are in the same group. Lee6 is with Henderson (as is Yaeeun Hong), but I'm not expecting much out of her at this point tbh. They also put Narin An and Jenny Shin in another group together. Hmmm, seeing a pattern? Sei Young Kim's group isn't super deep, if she can play halfway decently she might be able to advance. Big if, but she has had some good rounds lately. Lastly, Eun Hee Ji is in the group with Matilda Castren and Linn Grant. If she can avoid catching something communicable from Grant , she should have a solid chance at advancing. Sisters hwaiting!

Match play is old hat for JTibs, who beat Na Rin An ... Not the case for Big Ryu, who got embarrassed by LWW.
Match play should be old hat to DK, but she got dumped by Muni.
Didn't see any of Round One broadcast... was this explained? Does it actually work?

Nice article above on the attempted restoration of JEL 6. She gets a break this week not worrying about her cumulative score. Still, her tie yesterday against Schubert looks like a loss ... four-up thru five holes, threw most of it away, went dormie at #16 and then gagged on the last two holes for a tie. Under normal circumstances, she would squash Hong today, but who knows now ... Six looked awfual at UMCC. Assuming the best, it'll probably come down to knocking off The ECP tomorrow.

Day one I watched a little of it but not surprisingly they didn't show much of the Koreans. I think I saw one hole by Eun Hee Ji before I gave up. Pretty weak day for them overall. The only Korean who won without beating another Korean was Ji. Hae Ran and A Lim both lost to much weaker opponents alas. Six, meanwhile, got up to a 4 up lead by the turn and still only tied. I guess I'm not surprised, but watching her struggle to beat a player I'd never even heard of is really sad, especially after she got out to a great lead. I think her inconsistency is her big problem. She CAN play well for short bursts, but it never lasts long. Hopefully there will be a little better result today. If A Lim and Hae Ran both win, that bracket becomes a four-way tie. I'll hope for that. Sisters hwaiting!!

Two players I like ... one must lose and I think it will be Leona. JTibs was 4-up thru 8 ... then lost a couple, so it's 2-up thru 13 ... I don't think she'll choke it away. Meanwhile, An is waffling Strom, so JTibs just has to sleepwalk through her match with Strom tomorrow to advance.
*********
Broadcast starts at 7 PM ... I'm guessing they'll show a lot of Lewis/Furue and The ECP/Schubert ... as for Six/Hong, no so much.

Sheee***t, I apologize for my massive double-whammy jinx ... JTibs gagged and An might throw it away at #18.

Day 2
Some good news, some not so good. But for the most part a much better day.
Sei Young Kim won, and she's playing Cheyenne Knight tomorrow. A must win, as Knight is 2-0. She beats Knight, she has a shot at advancing. Who knows what to expect.
Narin An beat Strom, but Shin lost to Maguire, who is undefeated. I think An players her tomorrow, so another must win there. If Shin and An both win, that's a three way playoff.
Hae Ran pipped Kinhult (barely), but A Lim tied Wright. So, Wright has 1.5 points, Hae Ran and Kinhult 1 point. Hae Ran plays A Lim tomorrow, must win and hope Wright doesn't win. But if Kinhult beats Wright and Hae Ran wins, that's a playoff w/ Kinhult; if Kinhult and Wright tie and Hae Ran wins, Hae Ran plays off against Wright.
Lee6 won (!!). Yay! Alas, it was against Yae Eun Hong, but still. Weird scoring: Schubert (who?) is 1.5, Six and Henderson 1, with Six playing Henderson tomorrow. If she wins, she could advance or have a playoff with Schubert, depending on whether Yae Eun can rise to the occasion against Schubert.
Eun Hee is still on course against Szeryk, but 2 down at the moment.

Success on the Ladies Tour is not based on looks or sex appeal. That was proven again.

A Lim Kim should have won her Match easily, she missed two very short putts on sixteen and seventeen. It looks like she came out of the putts way to early. Well that's the way she under achieved on the KLPGA Tour, I thought it would be different on LPGA. However I still expect great things from her.
The good news is they will show Jeongeun Lee6 because she is playing Brooke Henderson.
