JM Eagle (HQ in LA) says they are the world's biggest manufacturer of plastic and PVC pipe. Plastpro (HQ in LA) makes fiberglass entry doors.
The Oaks Club at Valencia will host today's qualifier, about 30 miles NW of LA. I guess it is swanky enough for RLB to helicopter in ... she's grouped with MHL and Alexa Melton. Amateurs Anna Davis (future Auburn) and Mika Liu (present Stanford) will tee it up, along with Amazing Grace Na (ex-Pepperdine). Many in this field have their tickets punched for the Copper Rock Championship (April 27-29) in Hurricane, UT.

My jinx took the day off and MHL continues to be the new queen of Monday qualifiers. Yae Eun Hong was a WD ... I wonder if her daddy was looping for MHL again. Ilhee Lee will need to win a playoff to get the other qualifier spot.
I looked at the scoreboard earlier today and AVD was in a perfect position to snag a spot ... and then just fell apart on the last five holes, which included bogeys on consecutive par-fives and an eight on the par-four 17th. I've seen her play in person twice ... someone with freaky power (her utility iron goes longer than Chella Choi's driver) should not be struggling so much out here. I know nothing about her "team" (swing, mental, looper, trainer, etc.), but change is in order if she hasn't done so already.
Amazing Grace Na bombed out, but her presence would be most welcome at the Shoprite/Acer pro-ams ... try to hop a ride on RLB's charter.
BTW, the sponsor invitees are Nat Nat, Muni and Heather Lin (Oregon Ducks).

My field rating for this inaugural event is a very solid 74%. My breakdown is 80% from the LPGA Priority List and 68% from the Rolex Rankings. Eight of the top ten players in the world will be teeing it up, and seventeen of the top twenty. Top players not teeing it up this week include: Lydia Ko Lexi Thompson In Gee Chun Sei Young Kim Jeongeun Lee6 Anna Nordqvist
The Monday qualifiers were: Mi Hyang Lee -3 Allison Emery -2 (who defeated Ilhee Lee in a playoff)
The sponser Invitees are: Natalie Gulbis Muni He Heather Lin
Other stuff: Lydia Ko missed the cut this past weekend ending her cut streak at 39. Georgia Hall now has the longest current streak as she has made 35 straight.
Three of the last four LPGA tournaments have gone to playoffs.
Lilia Vu is the first LPGA player to win twice this season.
Nelly Korda's third place finish this past weekend was her 5th top ten this year. She leads the tour in that category.
Vu's win was the second by an American player. Five other countries are tied with one win.
There were some big moves in the Rolex Rankings by LPGA players this week: Congrats go out to Nelly Korda who is the new No. 1 player in the world, as Lydia Ko drops down to No. 2. Lilia Vu makes the most important move this week, leaping from 12-4. In doing so she knocks Hyo-Joo Kim out of the top ten. Allisen Corpus jumps from 34-21. A Lim Kim surges from 53-41 Angel Yin springs up 124 spots from 172-48 Amy Yang rises from 76-52 Albane Valenzuela vaults from 109-75

MHL is grouped with two players with zero CME points in six tries ... I hope they're not a distraction. Thursday morning's tee time is when they all need to light it up, because they've got the very last tee time on Friday afternoon when the Poa greens will be broccoli.

Caddie list is out ... the mandatory firings after a major took place ... Exhibit 'A' is Alberto Doniga, who was picked up by MHL ... he had been with Paula Reto (82-78, DFL at Chevron). Exhibit 'B' is Kevin McAlpine, who was sent packing by SY Ryu (three-for-three in trunk slams in 2023) ... Tom Watson from her forgotten Rolex #1 days returns to her bag. Julieta Granada makes her first appearance on the LPGA in two years, but NOT with Rosa ... maybe she's too old for this now ... ex-MHL loop Ivan Galdame will lug her bag.

Good rounds by Hae Ran Ryu and Amy Yang at minus four.
Hye Jin Choi and Chella Choi had ok rounds at minus two. Hye Jin had seven birdies but a bogey and two double bogey.
Jin Youn Ko at plus one only missed four greens but had thirty-three putts.
So Yeon Ryu at plus one brought her former caddy back, but he didn't bring any extra yardage. She still averaged thirty-four yards off the tee, hopefully they will fix it.

Round 1
Jin Young was unusually loose today; not the normal precision we've come to expect. She still hit her fair share of greens, but had a few un-Jin-Young-like moments, such a the late approach that missed the green by a lot AND left her short sided. Then there was the weird strategic error not to go for the green in two even though she only had like 200 yards to the front and would have made it easily. Apparently she decided she wouldn't hold the green and that it would be better to come in with a short club, but then she didn't get all that close with that club either, to her obvious irritation.
Hae Ran and Amy seemed much more together in their limited air time. I hope Amy can take advantage of her momentum from last week, and that Hae Ran starts to put up some good results, starting with this week.
Sooner or later Hye Jin is going to have a great round, and this feels like the kind of place it could happen. Stay tuned.
Sisters hwaiting!

I loved how green the course was what with all the rain the area had been getting.

Sung Hung on the express lane to Yani City ... that'll be four trunk slams in five starts. Is fanofseri there? We need a scouting report.

I cancelled my trip to Pebble Beach because of the prohibitive cost of lodging. Now I may drive up for day one and come home the same night (800 miles), to see Sung Hyun play in her farewell major tournament in California.

Correction. I forgot about Riviera in 2026, but I'll likely be dead by then so it won't matter to me.

Round 2
I didn't watch this round but I did follow it online. So far this is another of those tournaments where there are a fair number of Sisters between 8th and 20th but none up near the top. That means they probably won't get much airtime tomorrow unless one or more plays really well.
Jin Young had a pretty good day. She shot a 68 and went from 72nd to 12th. When she ended her round it looked like she'd be well back by the end of the day, but I think the conditions must have been hard or something, because she's only four back with two rounds to play. If she can put together a strong weekend she has an excellent chance of getting this one.
And there are some more near the top: Hae Ran 3 back tied for 8th; Hyo Joo, Chella and Amy all tied with Jin Young; and IK had an ace (!!) and made the cut in practically her backyard. Weirdly, the one player who fell apart was Hye Jin, who was in the afternoon wave so that might explain it somewhat. She still made the cut, though.
Still a lot of time left in this one. Let's go, Sisters!!!! Hwaiting!

Huh?! Not sure which will die first, you or your Ford Fusion. Is there a campsite along the way where you could pitch a tent or a safe open-all-night rest stop on the way?
At least you have Big Ryu to follow on Saturday.
Meanwhile, MHL played better on the bad greens ... go figure ... still out on the street ... onward and downward upward to Garden City, KS next week.
