Ok round by So Yeon Ryu plus two she is inside the top twenty, hopefully she can stay there.
Really good round by Min Ji Park of minus one moved her up twenty-nine spots. Also, her minus one was the only Korean golfer under par for the round.
My bad, Jiyai Shin was two under par

Having a good Caddy really helps at Majors. I liked that Nasa Caddy had her hit an iron for position on par five eighteen. He told her that it was a conservative play but the right one. She laid up and had a good look at birdie.
Hae Ran Ryu and Alison Corpuz went with hybrids into the Fairway bunker, and both made bogey. One of the reasons that Inbee Park is a Hall of Famer, along with being great golfer she manages her golf game.

Does anyone understand the pairings? Why didn't Hyo Joo get into the final group? It can't just be "better score", because So Yeon, who had the best score Friday among those at +2, is in one of the first groups going out among them. Also, why do they have only one web feed right now, and it's covering two players who are way back (Korda and Lopez) and only those two? I can sort of understand doing that in the first two rounds, but why now? Why not give us coverage of more players? Baffling... I don't understand the pairing either, I had to look up and down the Leaderboard to see who, So Yeon is paired with. I just do not understand what the LPGA is doing in this day of better Technology. It seems like they think making a player the face of the LPGA will gain more fans, I guess. I bet the people back East hardly even know who Rose is unless they follow the Amateurs. They used to have cameras moving all over the place. It was really nice to watch, now I just fast forward on the DVR. The rule in golf is first in last out.

The Final Round Queen is happy to be back in the US and seeing her friends for the first time since 2019.

Ínteresting moving day on Saturday. I'll comment on two golfers who appeared headed for disaster but survived.
First one was the Irish gal, not Leona, the amateur Donegan. Phil, you were questioning why there was an accent mark on the A in her name. I don't know (savoir, saber), but I do know (conocer, connaître) a student with the same name Aine. She's American so she doesn't write the accent mark. I nearly embarrassed myself by introducing her as "Ayn" last year but thankfully I had heard some coworkers say her name as "Ann-yuh" or "Ahn-yuh" previously. I don't know that I've ever seen a quintuple bogey on a telecast before, well at least since Sergio Garcia shot a 10 on the 15th hole at Merion in the 2013 US Open... But after that disaster, Donegan only gave up a single stroke after 8 for the rest of the round. She survived!
Second one was Bailey Tardy, the 'nobody qualifier' who was leading after the first two rounds. Saturday almost every hole was a disaster for her. Her drives were all over the course. She reminded me of an ex-PGA golfer, I do not like to publicize ex-PGA golfers, but his initials were BD when he was on the PGA tour. Bailey seemed to be following his strategy off the tee. I'm so strong that I can drive further than almost anyone, so that's what I'm going to do, and maybe it will go in the right direction, but if not, hey, that's not important, I can drive further than almost anyone. Well, on Thursday and Friday, her drives went in the right direction and she eagled 6 both days. Saturday she bogeyed 6, and doubled 15. But both times, she followed with a birdie in a hole or two. She survived!
Maybe this weekend will be the high water mark of her career. I doubt that she will win, and I've already said that I'm not a betting man, so saying that I would take her at 20-1 or even 10-1 odds on Sunday is really a meaningless statement. But just consider that she could be 'the new Lexi.' Sure, Lexi is Rolex #13 with over $13 million career earnings and Bailey is #455 with $37 thousand career earnings. But what have you done for me lately? Lexi CME #137 and Bailey CME #127 (and Bailey much higher after tomorrow, currently projected #47.) How many cuts made this year? Bailey 5 out of 11, that's 45 percent. Lexi 2 out of 6, that's 33 percent. And let's be honest, to most guys, what is the real appeal of Lexi? Tall, blonde, American, athletic. Ditto for Bailey, plus Bailey seems friendly like the beautiful 'girl next door' while Lexi seems at best 'pouty,' to use a word I've seen used to describe her on this board...
Last time that I made a 'prediction,' midway through Sunday so it was hardly a 'prediction,' I listed the names of 10 different golfers at the KPMG, all of them finished in the top 13, but somehow I omitted the actual winner Ruoning Yin. So now I will make a fool of myself again, first Nasa who has won multiple times and is due to win a major. Second, Hyo Joo (my local tv station calls her "Hoo Joo") who has won a major. Third, Corpuz, the only golfer to shoot below par in each of the first three rounds. After that I will say Bailey Tardy or Jiyai or Hae Ran. Best wishes to everyone for success on Sunday!

Round 3 Positives and negatives today. Hyo Joo was just having a hard time with her putter today. If she's going to win, she needs to make more of the putts when she gets them. It seemed like everyone was getting at least one lucky holeout or long putt today except the Sisters. Even Jiyai's version of a lucky break was a shot from the bunker the did a 360 lip out instead of dropping in for birdie. Hyo Joo is still well positioned, and the two leaders are both going to be fighting nerves and expectations tomorrow, so if she can lock in with the putter I think this is still doable. Hae Ran looked great today, and though she wasn't making a lot of her makeable putts either, she's far more green in these situations, so all in all it was a fantastic day. She might have to have the round of her life tomorrow to take this, but it's doable. They didn't show Jiyai much, but she reminded me just why I loved watching her so much. Always a smile, always doing her best. How wild would it be to see her get this win? Let's see if the Final Round Queen can make it happen. Six alas struggled, but So Yeon is still in the top 20 and can have her best result of the year. In Gee shot a 75, but still has a top ten within reach. Hye Jin followed her 68 with a 73 but has a shot at a top 10, too. Sisters hwaiting! Do Se Ri proud tomorrow and get that win!!!

Nothing against Bailey, but what she was doing here during her first 36 holes was preposterous. Launched numerous UFOs two week ago ... aside from driving distance, her 2023 LPGA stats are horrendous. Even on Saturday, she made her first sand save attempt on the front nine, getting her to 4-for-5 for the week ... heck, she was 10-for-40 for the whole year coming into Pebble. The good news is that she'll probably get some better sponsors from this performance ... and hopefully some REAL rain gear that actually works ... at one point at Baltusrol, she was walking up a fairway holding her open jacket in front of her with two hands, in a vain attempt to have the wind dry it out. She should also get rid of that Epson Tour logo on her duds ... really bad Karma for a major leaguer to advertise the minor leagues (same message to Sophia Schubert).

I was thinking the same thing... I cut Bailey some slack because this may be the once in a lifetime opportunity for her. After tomorrow, the golden carriage may turn back into a pumpkin. It almost did already on Saturday. But somehow she survived...

Jiyai Shin is so amazing, hit into the fairway bunker on eighteen. No problem, I will hit a hybrid out to the middle of the fairway. Hit my approach shot on the green, make birdie to tie for second place.
It wasn't the finish that Hyo Joo Kim and Hae Ran Ryu was hoping for. But a tie for seven and solo eight is pretty good in a US Women Open.
Some other movement up the Leaderboard by Korean Golfers. Mi Ji Park had a double bogey on hole three, after that, five birdies and one bogey. The minus one moved her from twenty-nine to a thirteenth tie. She took full advantage of just making the cut with minus two on the weekend.
Jeongeun Lee6, minus two moved up from fifty to twenty-seven. So Mi Lee even, moved from fifty to thirty-three. Sei Young Kim, minus one moved twenty-seven to a thirteenth tie.
So all in all not a bad day for the sisters
Alas, except for So Yeon Ryu with seven bogeys no birdies. She really needs to increase her driving, which was one twenty five today. It put so much pressure on the other part of her game.
