I was a bit concerned after watching Inbee's press conference. She spent 10 minutes basically saying that this is a super long course with wide fairways and little rough, ideal for bombers. I'm thinking the one thing that might equalize things would be if the greens are tough enough that there will be a lot of missed short putts.
So far at least it hasn't been all bombers succeeding, but maybe by Friday afternoon we'll be able to gauge just how important driving distance is this week...
Go Sisters!!!!

Golf course setup, like everything else in the game, is so counter-intuitive. Wider fairways actually help the straight hitters until they are simply too wide for others to miss. The reason is that when they are really narrow nobody can hit them. I think you make a good point about the greens. If they are big and curvy, then putting is more important, specifically 2 putting.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CGEDTqSF9OF Yui Kawamoto pre-Tournament, a little late for the post. Anyway she started with a double bogey. But made three birdies and three bogeys after that. But one of the bogeys was on a par five. It's good for her that there are only two...kidding.

I didn't expect to watch The Kelly Tan Show when I turned on TV today, but I guess we know what it takes for GC to feature her: Just lead the tournament for the entire broadcast window. It's simple! Kelly Fever was already infecting the Malaysian golf rags before today. I can only imagine the frenzy when they wake up this morning and find her leading another major. Oh, and while I'm at it, Paige Mackenzie is the worst. I never heard anyone use so many words to say so little. She's the queen of the obvious.

KT's R1 video interview here: www.lpga.com/videos/2020/kelly-tan-opening-round-interview-at-the-kpmg-women-s-pga-championshiphttps://www.instagram.com/p/CGGe9TyDmni It's still early morning in Malaysia and the R1 stories aren't up yet, but this is an earlier preview article from ParGolf magazine where she discusses her strategy for this week. KT used the LPGA off-week a couple weeks back to get in some practice rounds at Aronimink and get some pointers from the members, so this course is like an old friend to her by now. pargolf.my/kelly-tan-aims-for-best-major-finish-in-this-weeks-kpmg-womens-pga-championship-at-aronimink/In addition to the official practice rounds, Kelly has played Aronimink before with some of the club’s members. She describes the par-72, 6831-yard layout as a ‘beast’.
“The course is in a pristine shape and is playing super long. The greens are tricky so you definitely have to stay below the hole,” noted Kelly.
“Like Gary Player tweeted, ‘practice lots of lag putting’. I think that’s the key at Aronimink as it is playing long. Hitting longer clubs into the greens, we may not be able to attack many flags.”
“If I can get my speed dialled in on those long putts and walk away with some good pars, that’ll be great.”
I feel like I’m very close to something special and it is a good position to be in. I’m building confidence each week out here and getting more comfortable for sure,” she said.

Haru Nomura (74, +4) ... starting in 2020, she dumped Hanwha/QCells (or vice versa). But, this bag has me stumped. I googled 'big data golf 59' and found nothing. That logo is a total mystery ... is that the letters 'M' and 'A'? How is that related to the apparent gibberish on her bag strap? The only certainty here is that her bag is mostly Ping which looks like a change for 2020, too.
********
Lindy Duncan (72, +2) was with Volvik as recently as P&G/Walmart in August, but she must have kicked Chairman Moon to the curb (or vice versa). The Cutter & Buck duds seem to be gone, too ... have no idea what that tiny little white logo is on the hem of her shirt.

Round 1
Inbee and Amy Yang had nice starts to their weeks. Even though In Gee had yet another double bogey (note to Dumbo: STOP THAT!), +2 was actually an OK start. She has some work to do, but didn't knock herself out of the running. Ditto Sung Hyun Park and Sei Young Kim at +1.
Too bad about Mirim, but otherwise not a bad start to the week. Sisters hwaiting!

In Gee KICKED BUTT today! Great 3 under 67 to move to 1 under and onto the leaderboard. Annoyingly, they keep showing a truncated leaderboard which conveniently only shows Henderson at 1 under. But who cares, great day for Dumbo!
Sisters hwaiting!!

As the weather warms up in the PM, the EMP could be behind many players by the end of Round Two.
**********
I planned this week off from work, even though I expected KPMG to stiff the spectators ... which they did. Next year it's Georgia, forget that. In 2022, they'll be outside of DC, which is a real hike ... I'll probably pass. Alright, 2023 is Baltusrol, I'm already there.
**********
They just showed Gabsa knock one over the green at the par-3 5th ... she's tied for the lead ... until now, has not been distracted by MHL's screw-ups.
***********
Just heard Tom Abbott's voice ... he could live here in the Blue Route corridor and fit right in ... surrounded by Aronimink, Merion, Rolling Green, Philly CC & Waynesborough CC. Bums like me won't find a public course in this neighborhood ... I'd have to look north, above the Schuylkill River in the King of Prussia and Norristown areas for that.

Can DK pass the New Ko on Rolex if she wins here?

philknjYes, Danielle will be No. 1 easily with a win. But, she needs to win, a solo second won’t do.
