It's goof-off Wednesday, so I decided to compare the field of this event with the PGA tour at Riviera this week. Titleist has its name next to each player using that ball on the online leaderboards … a few stats:
PGA Tour All players - 120 Titleist players - 77 (64.2%) Asian flags - 9 (7.5%)
LPGA Tour All players - 144 Titleist players - 66 (45.8%) Asian flags - 45 (31.3%)
I don't know how accurate the LPGA stats are since there are six amateurs and a few foreign tour players and none are tagged with Titleist.
I don't remember Penguin Princess dropping Titleist … she had them at Bedminster in 2017 … I looked down on her ball in the left rough at #17. Suzuka Yamaguchi played Titleist in 2019, per Japanese source, but I don't know who has her now … Yonex doesn't make a ball and she gives no hint on her IG.
Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes has been reincarnated as an Australian golf interviewer.
"My country -- I'm very careful to say what I'm gonna say because we have so many great players out here. If you're not in the Top 10 -- like if you haven't won in a few months -- people just so easily forget...when you're in this position it's so tough. People start not recognizing your name, they don't talk about what you've done. You sort of feel like "am I useless? Am I not really good at what I'm doing?"
"And then all of a sudden you're looking at a 19 year-old girl who's a rookie on tour and she's like shooting a 62 or whatever. I'm not gonna lie. Sometimes I feel like maybe I'm useless."
