The JLPGA cancelled the Yamaha Ladies Open (April 2-5), one of the more entertaining events from a broadcasting perspective. That's five straight, which breaks the record of four straight cancellations following the 2011 East Japan earthquake.
*******
It's getting crazy ... my mom felt really sick, so I took her to the hospital ... I didn't think it was CV19 and I was right, just "regular flu" ... which is bad enough ... she got a prescription and was discharged. Outside the ER entrance in the parking lot, they were erecting a white tent building with doors and clear plastic windows, similar to the kind you'll see at golf tournaments ... expecting an uptick in business.

It figures there would be a flu bug going around at the same time. I hope your mom feels better. The social distancing could reduce the R-naught or number of people someone with Covid passes it to by a lot. I guess we’ll know in a few weeks. It’s incredible that China is down to 1 new case per day supposedly.

It seems like we are more worried about the economy impact. Instead of actually finding a cure. Just an opinion.

Japan and the IOC are emerging as some of the most batshit insane people on earth right now, as they keep on insisting that the games will go on as scheduled. They are not even PRETENDING like they are considering any kind of postponement. To some people the Olympics absolutely is more important than human lives.

Certain sectors of government are completely consumed with the economic impact, I agree. About finding a cure, that's not really how this works, genius. Now is the time for containment. Anything resembling a "cure" for a novel virus, will take a long time to develop, no matter how many resources are thrown at it. You ever heard of these things called clinical trials, and many other things? I am a complete moron and even I understand.

Shibuno Fever > Corona Virus In other news, I had no idea the "outer edge of a golf club" is called a TOE (46D). I know nothing about golf.

But it is a perfect explanation. Duh. I've been out of the xword game for a few weeks, since they changed the subscription protocol and I didn't bother to get mine sorted. I'll get back in it now though, I got some time to kill.

In my opinion most of the talking points are about the economy. I will repeat it's my opinion, which I have the right to have.

I guess i'm in the minority here ( like how i think of Wie and Xtina as Seoul Sisters), but i don't see the problem with the Olympics waiting to make a decision. It's at the END of July. Yesterday, most major sports had only postponed until April or mid April. Today, English Football is shutdown until end of April. NBA hopes to be playing at some point in the Summer.
I don't see people up in arms demanding those entities must cancel right now through August or later. That's like saying the US Open and British Open should cancel (and not use the word postpone) TODAY. Nobody is ripping Mike Whan for hoping there will be golf at some point in the summer.
And we are getting reports that China, South Korea, Japan may be emerging from the worst of it ( i don't trust the Chinese Govt, but i kinda trust Starbucks when they say stores are reopening ). It's still mid March.
I predict that by May June somebody is going to come up with some kind of manufactured sports event that can be staged safely, likely for Charity. ie Hero World Challenge. Twosomes, caddies, scorers and cameramen. That's less that 10 people that are outdoors and can keep their distance on the tee box. And if there are no fans you can do it with a hardly any Volunteers ( none over age 50 ). How about the Match 2, Tiger v Phil. Or Inbee vs Jin Young Ko staged in Korea. Jess v Nelly. Rickie and JT are playing golf against each other now. Send one dood with a camera and show it ala Shell Wonderful World of Golf. Garlic Girls vs Team Shiawase ( Fujisawa ) in an empty arena with robotic cameras.
If everybody is going to be confined to their homes for months(!), we need it for world sanity.
If we are going by the theory that the entire world is going to be on lockdown until Fall 2021, we're all screwed anyway.

The problem with staging the Olympics and Paralympics isn't just whether Japan itself will be ready by late July, but whether the rest of the world will be. It isn't just the Games but all the qualifying events leading up to them, many of which have been postponed due to the pandemic. Only about half of the number of athletes expected to compete in Tokyo have actually qualified to this point. Then there is the issue of how many countries will still be dealing with infections by the time the Games roll around, which may result in many athletes still missing out because of quarantine. That's presuming of course that the global airline industry can rebound from this crisis, because inevitably there will be casualties among the world's carriers. The IOC may try to salvage their TV revenue by holding the Games without spectators, but if many of the athletes themselves can't get to Japan there wouldn't be any point. Their drop-dead date of late May needs to be moved up, because the sooner the uncertainty is dispelled the better.

Only the IOC would host an international sex festival during a pandemic.
