NOTICE: POSTPONEMENT OF THE CLPGA TOURNAMENTS IN FEBRUARY & MARCH 2020 DUE TO THE PNEUMONIA CAUSED BY THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS

As the outbreak of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), China LPGA Tour is supporting the epidemic prevention and control.
To protect against pneumonia linked to the novel coronavirus, with the permission of CGA and negotiation with each partner of CLPGA, the following adjustments were made to tournaments held in 2020:
EFG Hong Kong Ladies Open, originally scheduled for 28 February to 1 March at the The Hong Kong Golf Club (Old Course in Fanling), has been postponed and the specific time is undetermined;
Blue Bay LPGA, originally scheduled for March 2-8 at the Blue Bay Golf Club, has been cancelled;
Hengqin Phoenix Tree Building Orient International Golf Challenge, originally scheduled for March 16-21 at the Phoenix Tree Orient Golf Club, has been postponed and the specific time is undetermined but it will be no earlier than May 18;
CTBC Ladies Classic, originally scheduled for March 26-28 at the Dragon Lake Golf Club, has been postponed and the specific time is undetermined;
The other two tournaments originally scheduled for April will be notified at the appropriate time with the development of novel coronavirus.
The health and safety of the players, fans and staffs is always the highest priority of CLPGA. While it is disappointing that part of the tournaments in 2020 will be postponed or cancelled, CLPGA looks forward to seeing all players and fans again soon. Thanks for the tolerance and understanding of the decision of CLPGA Organizing Committee.
As one of the five major ladies professional golf tournaments in the world, CLPGA called on everyone’s responsibly: Follow official information release. Avoid believing and spreading false and unverified information; Strengthen prevention and self-protection. Keep good hygiene by washing hands often with soap or alcohol-based sanitizer. Minimize outdoor activities. Avoid crowded places, parties and group activities; Join in mass prevention and control efforts. If anyone has visited the infected area, or contacted with people who are from the epidemic area, please closely observe the health condition, stay at home and timely report to local Disease Control authorities or designated departments.

Per Google mush, Yu Liu arrived at the Vic Open just in time before Australia put a block on all on visiting citizens from mainland China. Also, Singapore has new regulations that will keep Liu and the SS Feng out of the HSBC championship ... the article doesn't Muni He, Jing Yan or Xi Yu Lin. There are no restrictions on getting into Thailand ... for now.

They just ash canned Honda and HSBC  ... the Asia Pacific Women's Amateur in Thailand is also kaput. I wonder what's going through the minds of players doing winter camp in Thailand and Vietnam. |

Taiwan Women's Open Presented by SBS Golf has also been cancelled on the KLPGA.
The JLPGA does not have any foreign events so i dont expect any cancellations and according to the press here in Australia they are being very strict and baring tourists from entering so that should maybe hold of any cancellations.

Jin Young Ko will feel like she is back on the KLPGA. Because her first tournament start will be in March. |

This is unbelievable … I haven't been a significant buyer of hockey gear since the '90s … I had no idea that hockey stick production for elite players had moved from North America to China - what a disgrace. Reminds me of story …. the Rangers traded for Bobby Carpenter during the 86-87 season and he played lousy. The excuse was that he didn't have his sticks because the factory in Canada burned down. Golf gear companies will be affected by Corona, but I assume it should be limited since components are made in multiple Asian counties, not just China. The market for sh***y two-piece golf balls might get tight, but I don't think any high quality balls are made in China. Can a vaccine be invented in six months? If not, I can see the LPGA dropping Shanghai from the sked in October. Going forward, Whan might have to cut back on the easy money from Asia and refocus on the North American market (if there is one). I'm betting the KLPGA event at Weihai Point in July is also doomed, barring a miracle. How many thousands of people make up China's summer Olympic team and staff? Hard to see Japan letting them in unless they conduct a massive two-week pre-screen quarantine … have them come over by ship.  |

The near draconian methods China has taken to essentially isolate COVID-19 to Hubei province combined with travel restrictions by other countries on incoming arrivals from mainland China has meant a relatively low number of cases outside the country, although within the past couple of days Egypt recorded the first case in Africa and a Chinese tourist in France became the first fatality outside of Asia. Still there have been responses to the outbreak that have extended well beyond China: the K-pop boy group Seventeen has cancelled shows in Asia and Europe through the end of next month, and even the massive Mobile World Congress, the annual tech extravaganza held every March in Barcelona, has been cancelled. The Formula One Chinese Grand Prix, scheduled for April in Shanghai, has been postponed, and the fate of the race scheduled immediately afterwards in Vietnam is up in the air.

About 20 Princeton U. students quarantined themselves around Feb. 4 ... we'll know in a few days if they're okay. I have no need to go down there in the near future. The Princeton women's golf team looks like Team China, but only one is from China. BTW, I need to check out the Ivy League Championships in East Amwell, NJ (April 24-26). I'm guessing Penn will be the favorite ... they won two of four tournaments during the fall.

This is starting to get crazy ... the posted field at the JLPGA opener in Okinawa (Mar. 5-8) will outnumber the spectators, 108 to zero. The pro-am was also cancelled. They'll still have TV broadcasting.

This is most concerning: South Korea has seen a spike in confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past few days. The total as of today stands at 433 with 2 fatalities.

 Scene from the city of Daegu The South Korean government raised the virus alert level to red, the highest in the four-tier system, as the latest count puts the number of infections nationwide at 602, including 5 fatalities. The city of Daegu and surrounding county of Cheongdo in North Gyeongsang province have been declared "special care zones" as the majority of the confirmed cases have come from that area, many of them traced to the either the local Daegu church of the Shincheonji religious sect or to the hospital where some of the worshippers went after they got sick. Others include 18 Catholic pilgrims who recently returned from a visit to the Holy Land, which along with the general spike in cases prompted Israel to impose an entry ban on South Koreans and health authorities there and in the Palestinian territories to ramp up screenings for COVID-19. The travel ban came in abruptly as a Korean Air flight with approximately 200 people on board had just landed on Saturday at Ben Gurion International Airport only to be turned away at the gate, refueled and sent back to Incheon, prompting a diplomatic protest from Seoul.
(As of Saturday Israel only had one confirmed case of COVID-19, while the Palestinian territories had none.) President Moon Jae-in (center and on screen in upper right) addressing an inter-agency task force on COVID-19. In a rare weekend statement, President Moon Jae-in said that the coming week to 10 days will be critical in arresting the spread of the virus. Houses of worship, shops and many other public places have been shut across the country and the reopening of school for the coming semester may be delayed by at least a week to try to slow the spread of the virus. Large public gatherings were also banned under the nation's quarantine laws, but a large anti government protest in Seoul spearheaded by conservative and religious groups went ahead anyway.Kevin |

A big bunch of knuckleheads causing all the trouble ... I remember reading an article many years ago on how it's a vain competition of bragging rights between these churches on who can send the most people to the most wretched places on Earth. This was when Korean pilgrims were getting kidnapped or killed in Afghanistan or the Middle East, putting the ROK govt. in a jam. I'll bet some of the crazies want to get INTO China now! Don't be surprised if they ban spectators at the KLPGA Jeju event (April 9-12) to prevent the island from getting annihilated.
